The hotel is located next to Brockhole Pier and has a large garden facing the lake. It is quiet and is a good place for a relaxing holiday. There is a bus stop at the entrance, which is convenient to various places, but the fare is not cheap. The rooms are small and the decoration is upscale. Breakfast is exactly the same every day. There are no commercial outlets nearby. Eating at Ambleside or Bowness. I have tried a Chinese restaurant in Bowness, and the expectations cannot be too high.

This is easily the best place I've had the pleasure to stay at. Straight away I highly recommend. I chose the camping option which is only £12 a night, there are options for rooms and tipis too for very reasonable prices. The staff have been IMMENSELY accommodating. All of my needs have been met beyond my expectations. The location is good. You're about an 18 minute walk from the nearest bus taking you into the town centre. There is plenty of info here on local walks/hikes. It goes without saying you're in a beautiful location. The view of the lake and the mountains to wake up to is absolutely breathtaking. Even if you stayed here for a while and didn't go on any adventures, even if you stayed at the hostel the whole time, its very much worth your while. Even just for that. Food and drink is available, the food is amazing and is well priced. I want to empathise how amazing the staff are, I've had quite a few enquires and favours to ask of them and they've been immediately brilliant. Kind people with beautiful hearts. You WILL be taken care of with great care. It's a family friendly environment, and is quiet from 10pm till 7am. The guests are very respectful too. I couldn't recommend this place more. 😊

The Ambleside YHA and Lakeside Restaurant alongside is so good, even the locals use it! Such a good venue and the staff are amazing. Nothing is too much effort, they are friendly and smiley all the time. The breakfast is outstanding and better than we got in the Holiday Inn last week and that cost £200 per night! Thoroughly recommend this place

Stayed at Compston House over the Easter weekend. Megan and John are very welcoming and friendly! Our room was clean, tidy and had everything you needed. We parked using the parking pass in the local car park and had no issues. The breakfast options were great and cooked nicely, not sure what they do to their hash browns but they are unreal! 5 stars just for the hash browns. Recommend going to The Priest Hole for dinner if you are staying here, it’s just up the road and incredible food!

Some rooms can accommodate an extra bed, 15 pounds a day, including breakfast. 3, the hotel is large and has a lot of parking spaces. 4. The meal is great, classic English. 5, the hotel toiletries are good, is the British Royal Development Supplies MB, the bathroom's heating rack is open in the summer, the towel will be done overnight. Absolutely perfect stay. We booked “Holly” a wonderful ground floor room, tastefully decorated and furnished with a comfy bed and small pine table and chairs. Really stylish modern large shower room. We’ve never taken our dog to stay in accommodation before but felt at ease straight away. There was enough room for his bed and we’d brought our own bed cover just in case he jumped on our bed, but there were fleeces rolled up ready to use for doggy guests. We own our own holiday let and know how much thought and effort goes into ensuring guests are comfortable and have an enjoyable time. I can safely say Lake View is perfect. We felt really welcomed, it was a lovely and warm, quiet and comfortable stay and we’ll definitely be back! As always we read previous reviews and have to admit having a chuckle at the negative ones for Lake View. Honestly it’s about 2 mins flat from the most delicious breakfast at the Sport Inn. We’d recommend you book a table in advance for an evening meal to avoid disappointment, easy to do online. There’s a parking space with the room which is brilliant considering how much parking is at a premium in the village. Do take advantage of the location for walks too, you won’t be disappointed. (Deleted our original review and reposted because somehow it had it as 4 stars not 5 and Lake View and it’s owners thoroughly deserve a 5)

This is our 5th time staying at Gilpin over many years - first visit there was only the main house and no garden rooms. Lovely clean characterful garden room with lots of thoughtful facilities. TV not working but staff managed to reboot etc. Dinner in Spice was wonderful - fabulous food, a**osphere and service. Check in and checkout very efficient and friendly. Breakfast service rather patchy so we looked at the option of having in room but an additional £50 seemed overpriced especially with the relatively high cost for B&B. Overall enjoyed our stay in somewhere we have fond memories of but would probably only return if special offers
