Bull Inn

We have known and loved the Bull for over 20 years. Today we returned for the first time in a while. On approaching, we noticed that it was now a brewery pub, Fullers. That immediately dampened our expectations, and so it was to prove. Staff were friendly enough to start with. We got our drinks and menus. It’s noticeable when compared to before how much downhill the place has gone. Forget top class food, you will not get that here. It’s basically pub food trying to look fancy, with mentions of “truffles”, “venison” and the like. We ordered from the fixed price menu, supposed to be £18.50 for two courses (by the way Bull, it’s “prix fixe” not “pre fixe”). The food was frankly mediocre. Starters small and uninspiring. Main courses similar, mine was heavily over-salted and the Cumberland sausage dry and tasteless. However, the main issue arose on payment. We were charged individual main menu prices instead of the set menu prices. We only noticed on leaving, so approached staff to have it resolved. The person behind the (virtually empty) bar made this normally simple task a chore. He seemed flustered as he tapped aimlessly on the till, hoping to find a solution which sadly was beyond him. He became agitated and surly. He said “how should I know what to charge?” and started to play the restaurant staff off against himself. I asked for the manager but was told she had gone home. Eventually the bill was re-issued minus all the over-charging but it will take a week to be reimbursed for the initial over-charged bill and in the meantime we have paid twice for a decidedly average lunch. To add insult to injury, they still tried to add the 12.5% service charge even after all the hassle, which I had to insist was removed. I would recommend avoiding this place; for anyone who has been here in the past and has fond memories, like us, sorry - that is gone. It’s notable that none of the previous comments are responded to by the Bull, another sign of a failing establishment. Avoid.

Nice hotel, really helpful reception staff. The room was cold but the reception ladies helped me suss the heating. The TV kept cutting out every few minutes. Great breakfast. If you want a big night out, stay here on a Saturday night as you can check out at 3pm. If you have an early start I would avoid as the internal noise of people coming in late and banging doors/street noise is loud.
Premier Suites Reading

So, I don't know. But Premier Suites Reading has two buildings. I was only here in the main building 4 months ago, and past the other building everyday, Without realising. So I have come back to reading, using the Premier Suites, directly as I was impressed by price, location and quality of the apartment. I arrived a bit earlier than planned, and was offered a room, sorry apartment in the other building ( if you know the area, it's on the same road, otherside by the cake/bakery shop on the corner) There is only 5 apartments on the 5th and only floor available Mine didn't have the best view, which overlooked the oracle shopping centre roofline. But wasn't here for views, as said before, price location and quality of furnishings This was a short stay. But enjoyed it very much. And being even closer to the main pedestrian shopping area Best thing to having your home comforts, and being in the city centre too Photos were taken, but they just didn't show the size of the living room, with open plan kitchen and single extra king size bed in the bedroom
The Market House

Hosted a 30th birthday for my husband here on a Saturday night. The staff that I communicated with (Olivia and Makana) were so lovely and fast to respond to (ALL) my questions! On the night we had such a wonderful time, the staff were great and looked after us well. I would definitely recommend the mezzanine area for a party. We also hired shuffle board and it was so fun! We had 30 people in total. Only comment might be that the music was VERY loud in the mezzanine area (maybe it is closer to the speakers?) but, not the end of the world!
Travelodge Reading Central

Very close to city center with access to food late at night. 15 minute walk to Train station. The room is tidy and bathroom is neat. However there is no amenities. I paid another 10 pounds to check in early at 12. The lift was not working at the time.

Really friendly staff team, everyone is thoughtful, kind and considerate. Hotel has a generous, warm atmosphere. Great for families, with lots of space to play and a good kids menu. Hotel is well designed and laid out. would definitely recommend a stay although I would factor in distance from reading when booking.
