I went with my two good friends on our yearly girls trip, and then my mom arrived for her bday. We all loved how beautiful and calm the beach was and all the amenities but we thought the food and drink was not on par with other Secrets or All inclusive hotels we have stayed in. I have stayed at Secrets the Vine Cancun 3 times, Hyatt Zilara Punta Cana, and Hard Rock Los Cabos. Also thought that during the day the pool area was vary boring except during the activities (water aerobics, volleyball, zumba) but it would be cool to have a DJ or louder more fun music playing. It was also very hard to find shade at the pool and the beach, wish there were more chairs with umbrellas. The night entertainment was great at Desires and at the lobby especially the Dj and bands that played more upbeat dancing music, and Black Coffee got everyone to dance and was such a great vibe, we love him. Our concierge/butler - Osvaldy Guerrero Cedano is a true Gem, the best concierge/butler I've ever had. He was super responsive and helped us out at all times. It was my mom's bday and he had the room decorated with cake and Champagne and she loved it. He totally made her day more special. Ultimately I thought that this Secrets was more for couples where most Adults only resorts are a bit more fun and have more of a variety of people of all ages, for example girls trip, bachelorette, bachelor, wedding party. it seemed way more focused for couples and we all felt a bit out of a place. Lastly our room smelled like mold, I wish we had complained and had it changed it because on the last day our Concierge/Butler allowed us to checkout late and then enjoy the resort and use a room just to shower before leaving for our late flight. The room that we used the shower in was the same size but no smell of mold. The service was amazing though, all employees were super nice, kind, helpful and smily they made the atmosphere so great! Thanks for everything!

Riu service is good. Hard working individuals. The first night the sheets looked worn. After tipping they were better quality and towels were softer. Riu does not provide washcloths. The food was good. Several restaurant options. Nightly entertainment was good. The grounds are immaculate. Literally on the beach. They need rain screen showers. Water pump shuts down at night.

My wife and I stayed at this all inclusive resort for 4 days in late December 2022. On the positive side, the rooms were spacious and clean and the AC worked and the hotel was not too expensive. I guess you get what you pay for. On the negative side: - If you stay at the ”Royal” Hotel--which is the adults only part, and you are driving yourself, there are NO SIGNS indicating where that entrance is relative to the ”main entrance”...so we stupidly waited to check in for 20 minutes only to be told we were in the wrong lobby (which meant getting our bags back into the car and driving to the unmarked separate entrance). We should have known at this point that things would be less easy than we expected. - Their restaurant reservation system is totally screwed up (you actually have to QR scan each restaurant —they have 5— to make your own reservation—so if one is full then you go to the next and if that one is full you go to the next—totally crazy. There is no central restaurant reservation system. - Food is all you can eat but you would not want to. The sushi at the Asian restaurant was 95% rice and 5% fish. The fish offerings are mostly fried not grilled. The vegetables are miserly. Some restaurants simply do not offer a salad or vegetables. At the beach restaurant we ordered Nachos and guacamole and received a bowl full of nachos and one spoonful of guacamole! Water is served in small individual bottles which is so bad for the environment - We humored someone and let them pitch us their “exclusive travelclub”; big mistake, big waste of time, don’t fall for it - No one tells you that there is a check out procedure that is meant to ensure that you did not steal any of their beach towels……so I guess this is the kind of hotel/chain that attracts people who like to walk away with hotel towels….draw your own conclusions. - The staff are friendly but completely un-able to make any decision on their own or that might somehow deviate from their “procedures” (allowing you to sit at a table in a “closed off” area of a restaurant, redeeming your massage vouchers, expediting your check out, etc.

My family (2 adults and 7 yr old) had a wonderful time at this resort. Beach: Beautiful blue water with sand that wasn't rocky and rough on the feet! I didn't find many remnants of seaweed, so they did a great job of keeping it clean. Waterpark: We loved the lazy river and spent most of our time in it. The bigger slides that adults could ride were not visible from the main section and we did not see any directionals. Lifeguards kindly informed us of where to go for the larger slides. I recommend that you wear water shoes since this is a water park, but also the ground is really hot when you're not in the water. Entertainment: We enjoyed Snick Lounge. Bring cash to put into the machine so that you can play air hockey or billiards pool. Snick Lounge also has retro arcade games for free! We also checked the app to catch where character pop-ups would be to save some $$ and not do character breakfast (although I heard from another guest that the food was worth the $$ since they love lobster). Family Shows: The resort did a great job of putting on nightly shows to entertain families and let the children participate a little. Food: We pretty much ate all meals at Explorers Table (I think it was named something else before??). They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet style. You can also get some items cooked to order at two of the stations there. BurgersPH was a fun experience. We enjoyed Dominican Night to experience local cuisine without having to leave the resort. Service: The staff at the resort were friendly and helpful; although we did run into one male server at the Explorers Table restaurant that wasn't too hospitable. Suite/Room: We booked a swim-up suite which left us disappointed due to the smell in the room and I found many mosquitos flying around our room every day (so they must not treat the outside area for mosquitos). Had I known before booking about the dengue virus (mosquitos transmit) that is rampant in Caribbean and Mexico, I would not have booked a swim-up suite. Other reviewers mention nausea and I wonder if they actually contracted dengue. Also, if you are family that likes to be around others and not secluded, don't splurge on a swim up...the infinity pool is much better and has a swim-up bar!

Because of the early flight and the hotel is near, I chose it! Old-brand hotel chains, management, service, facilities and equipment, hygiene and supporting facilities are all very good! 1.1 km from Punta Cana International Airport, about 5 minutes by car, the hotel has a shuttle bus to the airport, you can make an appointment in advance! Because the flight was too early, I didn’t have breakfast, I don’t know what happened! Slippers and toothpaste are not provided in the room. All the cups are disposable! The hotel is not on the beach, there is a burger shop and several restaurants nearby, two banks! There is no small supermarket, the water and snacks in the hotel lobby are super expensive, 4 times the price outside! The price is average!

This was our first time in Dominicana and we chose this hotel because our tour operator said it was new and we actually liked the pics (they are real by the way, not like in the majority of the hotels where they post only the best to attract guests). First thing that impressed us was that all staff was wearing masks at all times everywhere: inside and outside! No matter if they were showing sport exercises, cleaning or dancing in the lobby in the evening, they were always in masks! Then sanitizers everywhere . Temperature control at the entrance to the hotel and to all restaurants. The staff also makes sure you are wearing a mask and gloves when picking food. Everyone was polite helping and smiling all the time. I will name only some people here just because I didn't take photos of all names, so sorry if I didn't name you. All receptionists were ready to help and solve any problem you have. Bieavenido (thanks for late night talk, now I know when is the Independence day in Dominicana!😊). All our requests were satisfied within 5-15minutes (not Dominican minutes👆🤣). Guys at the restaurant all who were welcoming, thank you for giving us masks and gloves when we were too overwhelmed with holiday activities and forgot to get them🙈. Thank you for always wishing us good morning, nice day and smiling! Guys who take orders inside the restaurants and my Spanish teachers😅 Ramon, Antonio, Wilsoooooon Rincon, muchos gracias! Love you guys! 🥰 I will always remember all of you, how you invited to take part in the activities, how you were showing everything step by step, your patience, your unique personalities. The best chef on this planet Wander Montilla with amazingly beautifully looking and heavenly tasting dishes. 😋 Thank you for your unforgettable dinner at the stake house restaurant! Also, the cooking show in Asian restaurant is worth seeing! The food is amazing and the products are high quality. We are more than happy with our rest!

Hotel was generally great with loads of space around the pool, room was nice with good views, a wide selections of food options, staff were friendly and there was always loads of activities. Only negatives are I become unwell believed due to food (due to questionable taste of an item and symptoms) and not saying it’s related but many of the cups and plates often looked like they hadn’t been cleaned properly, life guards around the pool had next to nil focus on the pool, so don’t assume they are watching, some areas like outdoor stairs need a bit of a refurbishment with lights hanging off the steps, there was some loud refurbishment work taking place which it would have been nice to know about and the evening shows are a bit repetitive

My husband and I arrived on October 14, 2024, for a weeks stay. We booked preferred and are very happy that we did. Hector was our butler. We were brought to the preferred lounge to check in which was quick and easy. We were then brought to our room by Hector, and he explained everything we needed to know about the room and resort. He made it a point to check in on us every day to see if we needed anything. He made it clear that he would go out of his way to make our trip perfect. He stopped to visit with us every day to have a pleasant chat at the pool or at the beach. A real gentleman. He is just an example of the excellent service that we received. The staff at the preferred pool are all to be commended for their professionalism and friendly attitude. I believe his name was Ishmael, but he really worked hard making sure you were never without a drink. The only staff that seemed unhappy were at the night buffet. Honestly, we were less than impressed by the service and by the food. The variety was non-existent as was flavor. The lunch buffet was much better and better still was the breakfast buffet. Food overall would NOT be a reason for us to return. Coquette at Breathless was very good, Capers and the Blue Grill at Onyx were good, but not wow. We have seen buffets with a selection of seafood, caviar, beef wellington-nothing even came close here. Back to a few more positives. Our room was large, clean, lots of space to store clothing, and preferred pool view was so nice. The air con was a little noisy, but we didn’t need it at night. The balcony was also very spacious. I would say it was a great room. Huge shower and there were a ton of television channels as well. The preferred pool is lovely to spend time at. Lots of umbrellas for shade and as stated earlier, great service. There are tables inside the pool in the pool bar area but the tiles around them are showing their age with mildew. Another asset to this resort is the Lazy River area. We did the river once but the center of it has a pool bar and 80’s to 90’s music played with videos on the center stage. The vibe is lively and cheerful but not obnoxious and loud. A real fun spot for families and couples. A few more thoughts: The landscaping is immaculately done. Food at the beach grill is always the same (repetitive but fries are good), evening shows are just okay, and the central Plaza is hot. Breathless is more comfortable and airier. We really enjoyed the rock show at Breathless. We just love Uvero Alto. The beach is beautiful and so much quieter than Bavaro. The shoreline dries up in the afternoon and makes for a great walking beach. There are more waves than Bavaro Beach, but we thought they were great fun. We would have liked more palapas at the beach, there were none at the adult preferred area and regular beach area. There were just a few on the preferred family side. There was shade from palm trees. A few last tips: bringing your own float for the pool and ocean is a go
