This is a good budget complex with everything you need for a self catering break, but with the option of breakfast, drinks and snacks if needed. The apartments are clean but could use some updating and maintenance especially in the kitchen, and we also had a few issues with the bathroom when the shower flooded, but the reception quickly got this sorted for us and provided fresh towels too. There is a great little shop on site, well priced, which also has a little ‘swap shop’ area which is a great idea where you can leave stuff for other visitors to use when you leave. Highlight of the trip is Pica the mini club and event organiser who kept all the kids busy over Halloween with Trick or treating and pumpkin carving fun. Pools are very cold and children’s slide area gets a bit slippy as the day goes on so be aware. The indoor pool is heated but adults only and is a nice area to get a bit of quiet and relaxation. The jacuzzi was too cold though. The complex is about a ten minute walk from the main playa blanca ***** and Dorada beach and there are supermarkets near also. You have to give deposits on arrival for the air con, tv remote and safe so this can be a bit confusing and the locks on the door and windows were a bit tricky to get used to. I can’t fault any of the staff especially the cleaners and maintenance people they were so busy all day long and everyone on the complex was very friendly.

This is a really lovely hotel, positioned on the eastern side of Playa Blanca and very convenient for the beautiful beaches at Papagayo and for main roads to other parts of the island. It's around 15 minutes walk to the town centre by the main road or (best route) along the prom from Playa Dorada and there are supermarkets nearby. The site is well laid out and planted with mature ficus and palm trees (at dusk every day tiny birds came to sing in the tree overhanging my balcony). The rooms are large, unfussy and spotlessly clean and have private terraces or balconies. The are staff mostly very friendly, particularly the younger receptionists who are excellent - and trilingual in French, Spanish and English. Other reviews mentioned the noise from the entertainment, so I sent a message to the hotel asking for a quiet room. I was placed in the 'Zen Zone', on the first floor away from the busy areas overlooking the quieter of the two pools and was very happy. The entertainment ends by 23:00 in any case. One review mentions holiday reps 'coming round' but I was left entirely alone and nobody came to the door during my stay except the lovely housekeeping team. The hotel is very popular with French families (no Brits at all) and the atmosphere is very friendly and civilised. No loud room parties or drunken staggering about late at night. friendly. There is a smart cafeteria serving meals on site but I booked room-only through Zen Hotels and got a very good rate. There's a kettle and fridge in the room and lots of great places to eat catering for all tastes in and around Playa Blanca. I hired a car from Payless and they delivered and collected the car to/from the hotel. The weather wasn't entirely brilliant during my stay but I was happy to be at the hotel or driving around the island sight-seeing. Will definitely return to the Royal.

Mixed feelings on this hotel. Probably more 3-3.5 star and here’s why. Positives: Staff all very friendly and engaging with customers Food options very good and quality very good Rooms very spacious Dining room nice Evening entertainment not bad Plenty of sun beds Pool area clean and spacious Not so positive Rooms not cleaned very well Tea/coffee in room for arrival only In dining room things kept running out on dessert/salad bar, nobody seemed to be actively managing it. Tea/coffee machines always a queue as only small cups provided. If hotel provided mugs it would reduce queues, generate less washing up, and customers wouldn’t have to keep returning to machines. Toaster needs replacing, took 4 passes of bread to get a hint of looking like toast. Pool area nice and spacious but sun beds crammed in next to each other so you had a mission trying to create a bit of space for yourself. Lack of pool umbrellas and no tables Some cocktails not part of the all inclusive experience, had to sign up to ultra all inclusive(€10 day) for a pina colada or pay €5/6 for one. As I say had mixed feelings, was a nice break but hotel could make a few changes to be truly 4 star. I probably would return

Booked only a few weeks ago! Hotel pictures and reality very different Attached pictures give the room we were given compared to room advertised. Polity asked hotel (never ever replied to requests) also Jet 2 (they did reply ) 4 days later they came back with new room New room matched the pictures, unfortunately the smell of sewage was intermittently unbearable ! Was booked half board, thankfully ! as food was usually cold and the same most days. All inclusive guest also did not get everything included especially for the drinks ie Bloody Mary not included for some reason (reason given it is 1€ more than the AI drinks list ??? Half board prices €7.50 per vodka and beer but never seen a price list yet Didn’t get room cleaned 2 out of the 6 nights Left dirty towels on floor to be replaced as normal but never were to be told by reception I had to request a change General furniture very tired Too few staff and some had no idea to work tills for non all inclusive staff they just gave me the drinks !!!! Lastly wifi in hotel went down for last 3 days of visit - no one had any idea of when it was getting fixed TV’ s stopped working on some channels due to either wifi or some other reason Maintenance never appeared to look at it Never a hotel I will return to and I strongly recommend Jet 2 have a look at it relationship with this hotel Be careful if you book

Really enjoyed our stay here again Evening buffet not cheap if on B and B but great choice of food Although the team say the pools are heated not many people get in and those that do say it’s not warm enough maybe more testing needed and solar panels as there is plenty of lovely sunshine We’ll go again

Well what can I say! Yes it's slightly outdated but really nice place to stay. The food was fine, lots of choices. Yes rooms seen better days but very clean. The staff are friendly and always say Hola with a smile. There's chefs cooking food in front of the holiday makers in the dining area. The pool was absolutely freezing 🥶 It's a great place to stay, very quiet. There's alot of elderly people but I'm guessing it's the time of year. There's a lovely receptionist called Sabrina who we met at 9pm on day of arrival. They had kindly saved us dinner, she took us to the dinner area once we'd put out cases in our room. There was no rushing us,it was a lovely welcome. Didn't hang around for any entertainment so can't comment on that. The animation staff around the pool are lovely. All round I'd definitely recommend this hotel at a very reasonable price for some lovely hot weather.
