Avalon Hotel Downtown St. Petersburg

From the instant we arrived at the Avalon Hotel, we were made to feel right at home. Super friendly, helpful and genuinely nice front desk staff are the best first impression. Speaking of helpful, Jeff and Alicia in particular were over-the-top accommodating, firstly allowing us a late checkout, and secondly storing our bags until it was actually time for us to leave. Many more terrific things to mention: The beds were super comfy! Wine and champagne tasting in the evening! Access to the Hollander Hotel’s pool (huuuuge bonus) Access to the Hollander Hotel’s FREE shuttle (which was PERFECT for drop off and pick up at Tropicana Field) When (and it will be when) we return to St. Petersburg, the Avalon Hotel will be our home away from home!

We enjoyed everything about this historic hotel: the room, the lobby chock full of art and references to its speak-easy past, the pastry shop, the bar, the comfy, covered front porch, the pool and fountains, food and drinks served poolside, the friendly staff, and the friendly guests we met. Also, the Hollander is perfectly located in St. Pete, being in the historic downtown district near my company headquarters and close to great destinations such as the Salvador Dali museum, Chihuly blown-glass gallery, and Morean arts center. I love historic downtowns and boutique hotels such as the Hollander. The rooms in historic hotels are often smaller than ones in chain hotels, but they more than compensate with their unique personalities and intimate atmospheres, which leave me with vivid memories of my stays in these sweet lodgings and the cities they call home.

Forget the haters. Good hotel with great price. It's not the Ritz Carlton but neither Bates Motel. Clean with good service. Because the pandemic, few services are restricted, but front desk will help in whatever they can. Didn't had complaints in 3 days staying.

We recently booked a room at this property, but due to airline delays we arrived at 3:00 A.M., and discovered they had given our room away. The night attendant apologized, but did nothing to help, other than to tell us where other hotels were in the area. Needless to say, we were very upset. The next morning, we called the Asst. GM(Kelly Grzan) who was already aware of the situation, and had discussed it with her staff at the morning meeting. She was sincerely apologetic, and had already gone into the system, and credited the points we had used for our stay, and offered us a free night. In addition, she gave us two free breakfasts. Because we loved the facility so much, we stayed there that night, and used our points the night before our flight back out. Now, you can only imagine how stressed we were having to find another hotel at 4:00 in the morning, but were ulimately made to feel appreciated by the hotel's response. As the saying goes, ”Everyone is going to have problems! It's how they resolve them that matters!” In this case, I really need to recognize Kelly, and her entire team. We'll stay at this hotel again on our next rip to the area!

Great stay, even better than expected! We checked in here after a nightmare cruise and came to see the atl vs. tpa baseball game. The location was perfect for the game and the hotel exceeded all expectations. EMILY was amazing and let us drop off our bags early and even called us directly to let us know out room was ready a little early for check in, just like we requested! We couldn't have asked for a better experience all because of her. She checked in us with ease and was extremely friendly and nice to speak with. The rooms were extremely clean - even offered multiple packs of wipes! The beds were very very comfortable, sheets felt great and clean. The bathroom was stocked and large! A highlight was a ledge in the shower allowing us to store our items on it, which NEVER happens at a hotel (Things always end up having to be placed on the floor because there is usually one little corner shelf). We had four grown adults in the rooms and it never felt crowded once! The internet was easy to access and very fast, the elevators felt safe and were clean, the lounge and lobby were very spacious as well. Can't say enough good things about this hotel as a Marriott Gold Elite member. Would absolutely stay here again (hopefully with Emily again at the check in desk!).
