Ever wish you were friends with family that owned a quintessential mansion in a coastal New England town with plenty of places to wander around, see museums and art, enjoy wonderful ranges of places to eat, share cocktails in interesting bars and have access to plenty of great coffee and ice cream? Well, staying at The Vanderbilt in Newport, RI is the next best thing to having friends with access to a mansion. In a beautifully restored and recently renovated Gilded Age (1909) mansion built by the Vanderbilt family - with approx 35 rooms - staying at The Vanderbilt feels very much like staying with friends - the Staff are outstanding from start to finish - professional and efficient, yet warm and welcoming in each and every interaction. The rooms are fairly large with separate sitting areas and comfortable beds. Everything is spotlessly clean and well-maintained. Don't miss the on-property restaurant and bar - incredibly cozy - a place for intimate dinners, warm celebrations and late-night drinks. The view at the Rooftop is spectacular for sunset drinks and small plates. Don't miss the mysterious Absinthe bar or the Macallan Reserve Room if you have the inclination for either libation. Regardless of the event or purpose of your visit - the food and beverage services are exceptional in quality and presentation. The Staff are outstanding and the setting overall is unique. I can't help but imagine that this place truly shines in the Summer but would be perfect in any season of the year and would be a cozy place to visit during Christmastime.

This small boutique hotel is located in the heart of Newport which makes it ideal for exploring the historic center of the town on foot. The breakers and other major attractions are a short drive. Ample dining coffee other options nearby. The staff is quite friendly. Rooms are a little dark in decor but well equipped.

I can't recommend this place enough! The location in downtown Newport is amazing with everything in walking distance. It's also off the main street so that the hotel is quiet and private. The people at this hotel were amazing as well.

I'm so disappointed. I have been trying to get the staff at the Vanderbilt to reply to me for weeks. Below you will see a summary of the last email I sent them through their own system and I've heard nothing back. I'm shocked that they care so little about what happened to my shirt and what could have happened in an elevator with WET PAINT and my friends WEDDING GOWN. They are lucky it was just my shirt, but I am not. It was my favorite shirt and it's not replaceable. They could have offered a free night or a round of drinks or something but NOTHING. They didn't even pay for my dry cleaning. What a careless, disorganized staff hiding under the guise of being a luxury hotel. Here is the last note I sent to them: Attention: General Manager and Staff I'm incredibly disappointed that you didn't get back to me. When I was there for a family wedding - The xxx Wedding on 5/11, my shirt was stained with paint in one of your elevators. While I wasn't staying at the Vanderbilt, I did give you my contact information. I checked in with the front desk a few times and even spoke to a manager on my way out on 5/13. All to no avail. If you haven't heard the backstory. The Bride and I were bringing in her wedding gown. We were escorted to the front elevator by your valet, so we could get the dress upstairs more easily. However, when we got in the elevator and the doors shut, there was a man with a paint can and the elevator smelled like paint. He mumbled something but didn't stop us from getting in. After I leaned on the wall to get the dress fully in the elevator, my friend said - oh, no, I think this is wet paint and sure enough my Lilly Pulitzer shirt had paint on it. This isn't just any shirt. It's my favorite shirt as my friend mentioned. It's a hot pink blouse with gold embellishments that Lilly Pulitzer doesn't make anymore. There was no offer to get it cleaned for me. There was no offer to help me in any way. I brought it back to my hotel, the Viking, and paid to have a dry cleaner try to get the paint out and they could not. It sits in my closet with paint on it. On my way out on Monday, I explained all of this for a third time to the manager on duty who took my name and information and said the General Manager would look into it and be in touch on Tuesday. That was two weeks ago and no one got in tough. Originally, I was going to ask you to pay for a replacement, but now I'm actually upset and a bit angry. With amount my family paid to stay at your establishment, your staff should have done a better job. They should have bought us a round of drinks at the bar - we ate there the night of the incident. They should have offered to have it cleaned. They should have essentially asked what it would take to make it right...but they didn't. They ignored it the incompetence of having someone paint and elevator the day a bride was arriving and put no signs up an didn't communicate that to the rest of the staff. No one knew the elevator was being painted. How ca

For the cost of this hotel I expected luxury. The room was quite ordinary. The room was small with only one wooden chair with a small desk to sit at. Bed was ok - bottom material look old but the worst thing was we were getting bit by something. Both of us were awaken to several bug bites. However, the staff were very nice. Breakfast was good. NOT WORTH THE EXPENSE!

Attended a friend’s wedding in Rhode Island and we wanted to stay in a place that would set the stage for a four day stay in an historic area. The Vanderbilt hotel did just this. The facility is beautiful with a two swimming pools indoor and outdoor heated. The room /bed were comfortable. The bathroom was set up with lots of towels, having all the accessories and comforts one needs. The staff from the moment you entered to the time you left were friendly and helpful and very hospitable. I must give the concierge/planner Morgan a huge shout out for helping us with planning the many events we wanted to have from taking a beautiful evening sunset Champaigne cruise on a 1020,s mahogany wooden boat with Katie and skipper who absolutely did everything to ensure we had a good time. We hopped on board a helicopter trip with Birds Eye View Helicopters over the beautiful Rhode island (smooth as glass ride - shout out to pilot) to land us on Block island where upon we picked up bicycles to ride the island from North to South. Morgan made sure we would not go hungry and packed us a beautiful charcuterie basket, so delicious we ate it all. Of course Tim from Airport/Train transport and his lovely wife made sure we got to all of our venues on time and with comfort. Tim was not just a driver he knew every inch of Rhode Island and imparted all the information he could on the history and geography of Rhode Island. We viewed the very famous Newport Mansions and Topiary Garden riding there in style in a 1929 Ford Model A Deluxe vintage car which was driven by Ken from Classic Car Tours. Ken was a lot of fun and also very knowledgeable on local history. The car could drive up to 6ph.. so fun! Our trip was a great success and everything worked like clockwork without a single hitch. I would reccomend anyone staying at the Vanderbilt Hotel and partaking in all of the fun things we did and left. We were sad to leave but we will be back,
