Kyparissia Beach Hotel

Kyparissia|0.54km from Green & Blu
This is a small family run hotel, with approx 24 rooms. Rooms are well maintained, clean and bathrooms are good with a vey good shower, and beds/towels were sorted daily. Breakfast is in line with the size of the hotel ; you won't get full english here, but a selection of pastries, yoghurts, cereals, boiled eggs, cold meats, breads and cheese. (There was scrambled eggs and hot dog sausages occasionally but was always cold ). Pool area is nice and is on a raised terrace overlooking the harbour (not much of a shallow end though).. There were a couple of minor issues that the rep quickly resolved with the owner : the swimming pool being out of use in the afternoons (due to noise disturbing siestas) and there not being enough sunbeds and some people reserving them then leaving the hotel for hours. To give credit, the owner quickly resolved these. (Personally, we never had an issue getting a sunbed ). The clientele were an even mix of British, German & Greek while we were there. A note about the area: The hotel is located right by the harbour, which unlike most Greek harbours, is not especially quaint and there's not much going on. It's surrounded by wasteland (some of which is used to store boats) and the surrounding area is past it's prime, as it looked like it once has numerous shops and restaurants, all of which have shut except one restaurant (next door, nice outdoor eating area) and a grill house that was always empty. The whole area looks a bit tired and has seen better days (I suspect it was once popular with Greek tourists which has declined). That being said, there is a nice beach with a lovely modern bar/restaurant about 10 minutes walk away, perfect to view the sunset over the sea. Higher up there is a fish restaurant with great views. Kyparissia town itself is about 10 min walk away (uphill) with a nice square and lots of bars, cafes, shops and restaurants (approx 4 euros by taxi) . The old town and castle are a further 15 min walk (about 5-6 euros by taxi from hotel) and worth a visit as the best restaurants are up there. So to summarise: If you prefer a smaller, quieter, family run hotel, and are happy to walk a bit, or hire a car and explore, then this hotel might suit you. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't reasonably fit/healthy, or for anyone with kids. Positives: -Rooms are good, modern & clean. -Pool area is nice, with outlook over the harbour towards the sea -Staff helpful and friendly (particularly the night time barman - Lef or Lev I think his name is), the owner gave us a bottle of local olive oil on our departure and was eager to please and resolve issues. Negatives: -Smoking allowed under the covered veranda where breakfast is taken (you can sit outside if weather allows) -No food is served after breakfast finishes at 10am until 5.30pm (could do with offering snacks as only other option is to go to restaurant next door or shops 10 min walk away) -Surrounding area a little tired and has seen better days
