I've always wanted to stay in a real castle, and Burg Gutenfels is as real as it gets. It is a restored castle originally built in 1220 and restored in the last century. The restoration job is amazing with beautiful hotel like quarters plus an incredible dining room, more of a great hall actually. Additionally, there's a plethora of outdoor spaces with amazing views of the middle Rhine valley and the village of Kaub. And with only 5 guest rooms in the castle there's no worry about dealing with a crowd.

I stayed with friends for a hiking weekend. Beautiful small hotel - clean, very well maintained and awesome service. Checking in came with a small tour through the castle. We had rooms on the 4th floor. Great rooms with small kitchen. Water for free and Coffee machine. Everything you need was there. Great breakfast (inclusive). No restaurant (so you need to go out for dinner or order food) - but a self service bar with Beer and Wine and soft drinks. Absolute highlight is the Terrace with Rhine views. Sitting there with a glass of cold Riesling is just great (bottle comes for 13,50). The sauna looked great, but did not use it. Even though it is an old castle- there is even an elevator. 100% recommended! Will come back for sure!

We stayed for two nights in a lovely quiet double room, owners were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast in the Knights hall was also great and included. Fabulous views. A few tips, drive to main door to unload, less the better, if you have a big suitcase don’t drag it up the long way and many steps to reception , there is a closer lift and fewer steps. Our room was lovely but weather was hot and no fan, also a bar fridge would have been great. However overall highly recommended. Deutsches Inn below good meals.

Amazing Castle with only 5 guest rooms. Our room was not facing the Rhine but was cool and very quiet on 3rd floor with lovely Timber alcove with table and bench seats. The family live here and we met a couple of them, who were very friendly and obliging and a lovely pet dog. Breakfast is very good and served in an amazing Knight’s Hall. No dinner but fun down in small town square. Naturally, there are many stairs before reaching reception so a small travel bag is recommended. However there is a lift to each floor which is excellent. To be picky, the weather is very warm so a fan would have been great otherwise a fabulous stay and totally recommend staying here.

This was a very unique experience, one that we absolutely loved. Obviously being an 800 year old medieval castle automatically creates an experience you won’t find at other hotels. No A/C so hot summer nights could be a slight issue but I can’t understate what a neat place this is.

Lovely castle hotel. The rooms are actually in the Castle. There are not many rooms so you don't need to worry about large, loud crowds. Great views over the Rhine. The rooms were spotless and large. Breakfast was very good. A great stay.

This medieval castle just became my absolute favorite place I have ever stayed. Our family literally felt like royalty. If you love adventure, history or romance, put this place on your bucket list. We did 1 overnight on our way from Paris to Switzerland, and it was not enough. We loved exploring the castle grounds, and the breakfast was delicious. The views of the Rhine are incredible. The manager and his daughter were so friendly.

The hotel, amenities & breakfast was superb. Better than 5 star! We had 4 nights to wander this medieval castle with no crowds, amazing views, beautiful courtyards, amazing library with spectacular grand piano. Room was very well appointed and sparkling clean. The views over the Rhine and the eagles & falcons were spectacular. The Gutenfels wine was absolutely amazing and I wish I could have it in Canada. We are truly spoiled for any other hotel now.
