The Capital on the Park

Located in Sandown, at the heart of Sandton meant traveling around the district was convenient and time-saving so it’s great if you want the best of everything in Johannesburg. The hotel is relatively new and very clean, they seem to adhere to high hygiene standards and their rooms are fresh and well stocked. They have a fantastic pool and jacuzzi area and this was where I enjoyed spending most of my time, just wish there wasn’t an obvious fence immediately after the infinity pool as I feel this defeats the purpose. Not a place I recommend for high-profile guests simply because coming and going was too easy and there wasn’t much privacy outside of the room. The breakfast buffet as well as the food menu were quite a disappointment except for their steaks and cocktails: the breakfast range was limited so forking R240 pp each day felt like a rip-off. The service was generally incredible, with warm and friendly staff ready to greet you at every corner.

I brought my son -25 with me. The location is the best feature and the facility is so clean. It looks like a new building. It is accessible to everything and within walking distance. This location is for the ones who don’t mind being lazy and just staying in one location. Or the adventure to go out and explore. Uber is readily accessible. It has a nightlife for those who want a drink and music and during the day plenty of food and shopping choices. Nelson Mandela Square, Melrose Arch, and many other frequently visit attractions are all located within the area.

The hotel environment is beautiful. I had dinner at the hotel restaurant once before, and I wanted to experience it once. The location of the restaurant is great, the view is expansive, the autumn scenery is beautiful, and the meal is also very good. The room is spacious and comfortable. The room I booked has two balconies with beautiful views on both sides. The attitude of the service staff is very good, and the service is very considerate and meticulous. Very recommended to stay.

On Saturday 16 Dec 2023 my entire family decided to go to The Marriot for breakfast and we planned on using our Prokard to qualify for their dining discount. We have been to the Marriot on numerous occasions over the last 4 years and we had no problems using our Prokard and getting the applicable dining discount. Tembi the restaurant manager stopped us all at the entrance of the restaurant and was adamant that we couldn't use our prokard ....then it was an excuse that there were no tables available when there were plenty available. Her attitude was disgusting and made excuse after excuse......another being that The Marriot is a new hotel and that they were still finding their feet which was not true. My family was so upset with the backwards and forward arguing that we did not enjoy our breakfast which was meant to be a family outing. I also overheard other guests complaining about not being able to use the Prokard ......she also told us that it cannot be used over the holidays.......she made so many contradictory excuses. I had called on the Monday before (11 Dec ) and spoke to Daniel ( the services manager ) and he confirmed that all the benefits for dining is as per all Marriot hotels and that we are welcome to come on the Saturday. I spoke to Daniel on Monday ( 18 Dec) to complain of what we experienced on Saturday and he passed it onto Razeen ( another manager) who didn't have the decency to call me with an apology and confirm what the rules are wrt Prokard benefits. My advice to Prokard members ......keep away from The Marriot as they are not so professional and sophisticated as they profess to be and rather patronize the other Protea hotels. We stayed here for a total of 4 nites, beginning of March, two nites we had booked for some rest before joining a group tour of South Africa and Victoria Falls. Two more nites were included in the tour. We arrived very early on the first day, and our room wasn’t ready (no surprise), so we walked over to the mall via the 6th floor access. (Sandton mall), and had a very nice breakfast/lunch at the cafeteria in the Woolworths. When we returned to the hotel, our room was ready, and a porter brought our bags up right away. The room was of a good size, king size bed was comfortable, bathroom had separate shower and bath, and was nicely decorated. We were totally exhausted after almost 24 hours of travelling, and were fast asleep within minutes. Upon waking, we had a very nice dinner at the hotel’s San restaurant. Breakfast in the morning (included) was amazing- there was a cold buffet spread, and in addition, you could order an a la carte dish from the menu - no going hungry here. Honestly, the only thing i could complain about was how cold the water in the pool was.. Besides the easy access to Santon mall, you can also walk to the Nelson mandela square which flows into the sandton mall, which had quite a selection of restaurants - we ended up eatin 2 very nice dinners there. This would definitely be our hotel of choice, should we ever return to Johannesburg..

Overview: Located in the heart of Johannesburg, The African Pride Melrose Arch is a luxury boutique hotel in the vibrant Melrose Arch district. The hotel has spacious rooms, a rooftop pool, and a bar. They have various dining options, including their signature restaurant (Aduna Bistro). The location of APM allows you to start your exploration of JoBerg easily. Staff: 5/5 The African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel (APM) staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Welcome drinks, smiles, professionalism, and a great source for local information. All staff members were amazing. Special acknowledgments to Pretty and Mr. D!!! Also, a special shout-out to the lady who delivered the birthday gift to our room. Sorry, we never exchanged names! You know who you are! 😊 Staff makes your hotel; somehow, The African Pride got it right with their entire team. Hotel Room: 4/5 The rooms at the hotel are spacious and beautifully appointed. They have all the amenities you could possibly need, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean, well-lit and spacious. The Pride, though kept well, was slightly dated. There should be some type of assessment of each room so that they are able to keep its mystique intact (it’s time to get rid of every DVD player in your hotel… It's ok, no one will notice) Hotel Grounds: 5/5 It’s situated in Melrose, so the hotel grounds are also part of the Melrose in a way though they do have a pool area, which is spectacular. They also have an amazing restaurant attached to them where you can pick up an amazing breakfast before starting your journey touring the sites in Joburg. Location: 5/5 The location in Melrose Arch is a huge plus. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes are within walking distance, so you'll never run out of things to do. Conclusion: 4.75/5 I highly recommend the African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and convenient stay in Johannesburg. You will surely enjoy your stay while you visit JoBerg. Things to be aware of: Power issues plague the entire country. Places like African Pride have backup generators to assist with making your experience more enjoyable. When you have temporary blackouts, it is because the generator is assisting to maintain power to the entire building. Anyone who blames APM for power issues should be more aware of the countries they visit. APM doesn’t appear to have a fitness Gym on site, but you have access to a nearby gym, which is from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., I believe ( I could be wrong). Go to the front desk. They will provide you with access to the facilities and the locati
