I don't even know where to begin with this place. I read the reviews so I was truly excited about staying here, but was sorely disappointed. Let me start with the good stuff. The location is pretty nice. I loved that it was kind of in it's own little village, with several restaurants and stores connected to it. It's also in walking distance of several other restaurants and a short uber trip from most tourist attractions. The food at all the restaurants were tried were really good and the plating was quite beautiful. Everything else was..... Let's start our check-in. Our trip was booked through Delta vacations, so everything was paid for prior to coming. We get to the Check-in and they say our room wasn't paid. We show them the paperwork and they basically said, sorry no dice. okay, that's not their issue we were going to call our travel agent. We had to pay for the 1st night though, while we sorted it out. Fast forward, they did get the payment and there was a mix up on their end, which would have been fine, had they not told our travel agent they didn't tell us we had to pay for the rooms only for incidental. Since when is incidentals $400US? The layout of the room appeared nice a first (view of the surrounding area is beautiful) until you realize that the light and the outlets are connected. This wouldn't have been a problem if there were different switches for each. However there was literally one switch for both. So either you had the light on and charged your devices or let them die so you can sleep in darkness. Yes, we ( my sister and I ) complained about this and received the response of, they are sorry and would see if they could find us another room. They didn't. The bathroom looks gorgeous, until you realize that the shower head is hanging from the ceiling, so the only way to wash off is to stand directly under it, getting your hair wet. While this may work for some guests, it won't work for many. Soaping up and then trying to wash off was an ordeal. No, there weren't any other removable devices that would allow you to wash off. I also mysteriously lost $160 while at this hotel. I cannot confirm that it was the staff, as I didn't see them take it; all I know is that I counted my money every single day of that trip. I counted it right before we left to go to the apartheid museum. When we left the hotel the next day, we were running a little late for our flight and I didn't count it until we got on the plane, which is when I noticed it. I noticed it immediately because the money was out of order ( yes there is a certain order I out my money in). When I notified the front desk about it once we landed, they said I probably dropped it. Which is curious that I didn't drop all of it, and the rest of it was in the exact same place, (a wallet and 2 purses into my suitcase) when I found it. Overall, I did not enjoy my experience at the hotel and I would not recommend it at all.

12 Decades Art Hotel

12 Decades Art Hotel

Downtown Johannesburg Johannesburg|1.23km from downtown
There are so many positives to 12 Decades Art Hotel. The hotel itself is really cool, and has a trendy loft type feel to it. I loved the room I was staying in. It was bright, spacious and comfortable. The bed was fantastic especially after a long long flight. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and responsive on Whatsapp for whatever you needed. The neighbourhood is really upbeat. There are great places to eat steps away, and a convenience store across the street for water and snacks. There is also a club across the street if you are into that kind of thing. Some of the improvements I would recommend are some that are already in the works. The first is the front door situation. They didn't have key cards for hotel guests and were waiting on replacements from the company. However this meant that you couldn't get in - or out - of the hotel unless someone was at the front desk. There were a few instances where we were stuck for a bit waiting for someone to come back. The other issue is that the building doesn't have a generator for loadshedding. I really appreciated the flashlight they provided but if you are staying on the upper floors you have to time getting up to your room before loadshedding occurs or expect to climb 5 flights (or 7 flights for my friend) - this also limited when we felt we could leave the rooms as well. Other improvements would be that they only have the 3 prong outlets here. I don't know if this is a Johannesburg thing or not but the rest of the country has both 2 and 3 prong outlets. All the travel adapters we brought only had 2 prong so we couldn't charge our phones. Also the lamps in my room were also 2 prong so you can't plug in the lamps they have either. There was never a light in the bathroom so it was dark the whole time. I also had no problem with this myself as I am a heavy sleeper, but if you need a quiet room this place isn't going to work as the club across the street plays music late at night.

YTF Review: Disclaimer: Our reviews are solely based on our experiences, not on other readers' experiences or influenced by other readers or entities. You will rarely read ”like other reviewers…” from our posts since we practice not to read reviews and visit with virgin eyes untainted by what others may have experienced. Overview: Located in the heart of Johannesburg, The African Pride Melrose Arch is a luxury boutique hotel in the vibrant Melrose Arch district. The hotel has spacious rooms, a rooftop pool, and a bar. They have various dining options, including their signature restaurant (Aduna Bistro). The location of APM allows you to start your exploration of JoBerg easily. Staff: 5/5 The African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel (APM) staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. They made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Welcome drinks, smiles, professionalism, and a great source for local information. All staff members were amazing. Special acknowledgments to Pretty and Mr. D!!! Also, a special shout-out to the lady who delivered the birthday gift to our room. Sorry, we never exchanged names! You know who you are! 😊 Staff makes your hotel; somehow, The African Pride got it right with their entire team. Hotel Room: 4/5 The rooms at the hotel are spacious and beautifully appointed. They have all the amenities you could possibly need, and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean, well-lit and spacious. The Pride, though kept well, was slightly dated. There should be some type of assessment of each room so that they are able to keep its mystique intact (it’s time to get rid of every DVD player in your hotel… It's ok, no one will notice) Hotel Grounds: 5/5 It’s situated in Melrose, so the hotel grounds are also part of the Melrose in a way though they do have a pool area, which is spectacular. They also have an amazing restaurant attached to them where you can pick up an amazing breakfast before starting your journey touring the sites in Joburg. Location: 5/5 The location in Melrose Arch is a huge plus. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes are within walking distance, so you'll never run out of things to do. Conclusion: 4.75/5 I highly recommend the African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and convenient stay in Johannesburg. You will surely enjoy your stay while you visit JoBerg. Things to be aware of: Power issues plague the entire country. Places like African Pride have backup generators to assist with making your experience more enjoyable. When you have temporary blackouts, it is because the generator is assisting to maintain power to the entire building. Anyone who blames APM for power issues should be more aware of the countries they visit. APM doesn’t appear to have a fitness Gym on site, but you have access to a nearby gym, which is from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., I believe ( I could be wrong). Go to the front desk. They will provide you with access to the facilities and the locati

Sandton Times Square

Disliked: I honestly feel like the pictures posted on Bookings.Com are a total misrepresentation of what one walks into. We walked into an apartment that looked empty. The lounge area to be precise looked like our furniture was repossessed or we were new tenants waiting for furniture to be delivered. It looked cold and unwelcoming. The pictures on the other hand showed a fully furnished apartment with carpets and or a table in the middle of the lounge. 90% of the TV channels gave error 48-32, and the channels that play without a problem are kids channels. Apparently, the area has signal problems. The cutlery and crockery was a joke, 1 eating fork, 1 spoon, 2 steak forks, 2 teaspoons, 3 butter knives, no bread knife or chopping knives. 4 pots, only 2 of those pots have lids. Only 1 small serving dish, the other one had no lid. When we checked in, we had to pay R200 damage fees, which we were aware of, however, no one walked us to our room for an inspection, despite having paid the damage fee.....when we got to our room, the kettle lid was broken, the cabinet door on the island was broken... The accommodation is located on Grayston drive. It's a busy street, so obviously, there are no silent nights. So if you are hoping for a quiet day or night l, this won't be a place for you. The same night we checked in, we wanted to cancel our reservation and book somewhere else. Unfortunately for us when we went to reception, the reception was closed and we couldn't be assisted. for a place located in Sandton I had high expectations and they were definitely not met.

The carpet in the room was wet due to the rain. The sheets were not clean, they still had make up stains from previous guests. You can hear noises from your neighbours and also noise when they use water facilities I.e showers and toilets

The check in process was very simple with super friendly staff. One guy stood out for me his name is ”Essential” he went out of his way to ensure that our stay was comfortable. The rooms were fairly clean and had a nice mini bar fridge. The downside was that they didn't have microwave ovens in the rooms, Essential sorted us out through the restaurant. The wifi login tends to be troublesome, I'd prefer they improve on that or find a simpler way to secure it and still allow flawless connecting.

Piazza Hotel Montecasino

I spent two weeks at the Piazza Hotel Monte****** for business, and it was amazing from beginning to end! Starting with Sipho, the taxi driver who fetched me from the airport and took me to the hotel (and helped with daily transport to site) - he was a gem! Always on time, efficient and friendly. I strongly recommend his services. My room was always spotless, breakfast was great and so was the room service - the best soups and sandwiches I've ever had. The staff were so welcoming, helpful and always friendly. Being within the Monte****** complex provided us with endless dinner choices - we didn't have one bad meal. I would highly recommend the Piazza Hotel.

I stayed at your hotel for a conference but loved the experience. Loved the food variety and abundance in chief's boma, large rooms and comfortable bed. The hotel was large so expect a lot of walking however there are transport carts to move you around.
