Hotel Zaza Houston Museum District

Houston|2.65km from Roux 38 Restaurant & Lounge
It had been many years since I had experienced a stay at the Hotel Zaza, so many, in fact that the last time was when it was known as The Warwick. I had stayed there with my husband just prior to the closing and was fascinated by the hotel’s history, involving such luminaries as writer Edna Ferber, which we learned from the staff and from the hotel literature. I was so taken that I snapped a photo series and used in a graphic design class I was taking at the time. After the reopening we would visit to dine in the restaurant and always came away satisfied and impressed by the attentive service. We got a kick out of the Zaza limos with their longhorns affixed to the front grille parked just outside, but did not have an occasion to stay there. Recently I had to stay in Houston overnight and decided a return visit was long overdue, and reserved a Fantastico Suite from their list of regular guest rooms. As it turned out, the suite was not available when I arrived due to a malfunction, so I was upgraded to an even larger Divino Suite with a spacious living room and dining area with a table large enough to accommodate 6-8 diners. Each of the Zaza’s spacious suites has a unique décor, and mine was an Asian-inspired blend with European touches such as a dramatic crystal chandelier hanging above the dining area table. The separate bedroom was amply sized with large windows offering excellent views from the second-highest floor. The suite also has floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room and dining room, all with blackout curtains. Between the living area and the bedroom was the well-appointed bathroom, with a shower and a tub. I ordered room service from the restaurant which arrived quickly and contained ample portions that were well-prepared. The hotel staff was courteous and professional, which, all told, made for an extremely comfortable and pleasant stay, and I look forward to a return visit to this old/new favorite.

Since it is a motel at reasonable prices, I am surprised for comfort, cleaning and care of the rooms. Large and free parking. Educated and friendly staff. Finally USB takes on the comforts to load the smartphone. In a strategic position, I recommend it at 100 percent

First off, the place was a great place to stay, once you ran the gauntlet of getting in. To my discredit, I will admit this is the first time I've stayed in a Hostel in the United States. I stayed in several in Spain a few years ago without a hitch. Biggest problem was contacting a living breathing person by phone, but that is par for the course these days, unfortunately. Secondly, there was (for me) a confusing exchange of e-mails that resulted in the contention that they did not have a picture ID on me. I know I had sent this earlier and have the e-mail to prove it. When I sent my ID, I had copied and pasted it in a ”reply” e-mail back to them. Several hours after that when I was freezing in my car outside their facility, I learned they they did not have the ID. So, I sent another picture ID using a new e-mail directly to them rather than simply replying to an older one. Let that be a lesson. Always send new e-mail with any information they need, rather than simply sending it in a ”reply” e-mail that they had sent to you earlier. It may be some e-mail glitch. The only other glitch was after getting inside, I was exhausted and ready to go to bed for some much needed rest. Unfortunately, the ”combination” to the door lock would not open the door to my room. I tried to call them (there were no employees there), but again, the recorded message said to send them an e-mail. Consequently, Multiple e-mails sent back and forth over an extended time when a simple phone call could have resolved the issue in 30 seconds. Long story short, they had given me the incorrect code to my room, but it took multiple e-mails to determine this. Finally, once in the room, I will say the bed was clean and very comfortable. I slept like a bear in hibernation. The room had a real home feel to it, unlike the sterile perfection of a high end motel that I usually stay in. The entire place was also very quiet. I don't know how many other people were there, but there was no wait time the next morning when i took a shower. Shower was also very clean. When I was ready to leave, I hung around a while in the downstairs ”living room/lobby” area expecting there would be an employee there at check out as there always is when staying at a motel, but there was nobody. So, after a short while, I left. I used this place to stay out of curiosity as I usually stay at motels when I come to Houston. But, motels are expensive. The reality is, I never watch TV in a motel. I seldom eat the breakfast at motels or use their in room telephones, pools or workout gyms. When I travel, the only thing I am looking for when it's time to call it a day, is a safe comfortable place to lay myself down to sleep and use the bathroom,,,nothing more. That was the promise of staying in a Hostel, and on that promise, they delivered.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a youth hostel that truly stood out for its exceptional qualities. Nestled in a residential area, its location was incredibly convenient, offering a tranquil retreat just a bike ride away from the city center—less than 10 minutes to be exact. This made for peaceful nights, ensuring a restful sleep in a safe environment. The hostel is run by a delightful couple whose hospitality knew no bounds. They were not only eager to assist with any issues that arose but also went above and beyond by providing bicycles. This thoughtful touch significantly enhanced my mobility around Houston, allowing me to reach various destinations swiftly. What set this hostel apart was the attention to detail and the array of complimentary amenities, including cookies, milk, cereal, coffee, and tea. The cleanliness and smart technology throughout the house contributed to a seamless stay, making it the best hostel experience I've ever had. The bathroom towels folded into swan shapes were a testament to the owners' dedication to detail, adding a touch of elegance and care. The warmth of the place was akin to being at home, with the owners always ready for a chat, eager to answer questions, and share their stories and experiences. A highlight for me was the world map on the living room wall, where guests could pin their home countries—a fun and interactive way to connect with fellow travelers. In summary, this hostel was more than just a place to stay; it felt like a home, or perhaps more accurately, a homestay. It's undoubtedly the best hostel I've ever stayed in globally, blending the comfort of a home with the adventurous spirit of a hostel.

The hotel is just across the street from the Rockets Toyota Center and it is very convenient to watch the ball. The front desk service was very warm. Breakfast is good, there is a Chinese restaurant near the hotel, the hotel does not provide toothpaste and toothbrush
