5 stars for the staff, who were excellent, 4 stars for restaurant--very good but extremely expensive for the experience, and 3 stars for the accommodations...VERY rudimentary and inexpensively furnished. Very dated and desperately in need of upgrading. For US$700 per night, definitely poor value...but not a lot in the area.

The hotel has an understated elegance. There are unique pieces of art throughout the hotel with interesting descriptions of the artist and significance of the pieces. The rooms are minimalist but comfortable for a couple and the beds were very comfortable. there are 3 hot tubs which overlook the hotel grounds. The hotel restaurant is first rate. A nice breakfast is included with the rooms. We had several dinners in the restaurant and all of the dishes were excellently prepared and plated. The menu had a number of interesting fish and meat options; however, not that many choices for vegetarians. All of the staff were wonderful. They were all pleasant and knowledgeable about the area. Hotel Ranga is centrally located to a number of spectacular sites on the southern part of the country. The most we traveled in any direction was 3 hours and we saw some amazing natural beauty and had some fabulous hikes. The hotel is fairly expensive but the location and ambiance make it worth it if you want a luxury experience.

One of the nicest hotels we've stayed in and definitely the nicest in Iceland. Their service is impeccable. The beds and bedding were amazing. Rooms have a door from the hallway and another to the back of the property toward the creek. We were blessed to have one of the 3 hot tubs right outside our room through the back door. Great shower with a large tub, bathroom big enough for 2 to be in at the same time (rare in Iceland/Europe). The breakfasts were phenomenal. Dinner was very good, a bit pricey but worth it to not have to drive elsewhere so our driver could have a glass or two of wine. They even had an astronomer beginning 9/1 which was our first night there - stargazing through a large telescope. They offer wake up service if the northern lights appear. Highly recommend.

This log cabin-like lodge provides a rustic but pleasant stay. We enjoyed a complimentary welcome drink and also received a bottle of wine in our room as a thank you for booking direct. At dinner, the owner stopped by our table and we enjoyed a nice chat with him. The hotel offers a wake-up call to see the northern lights and we were surprised and happy to get to see a bit of them. At breakfast, there are several made-to-order options to accompany the buffet. Only real negative: the hot tub locations are a bit awkward as everyone in the restaurant watches you get in and out of the tubs. Ha ha!

Whilst not cheap, the location is amazing. They have one of the best breakfasts we had in all of Iceland. Highly recommended.

We had the most beautiful wedding at Hotel Rangá. Majken made sure everything went according to plan and it was such a beautiful ceremony, floral arrangement, and dinner reception. The food was phenomenal (some of the best we have had in Iceland). Hotel Rangá is very special to us and we are already planning our return trip!

if you are leaving Reykjavik to visit the falls and beaches, this is an excellent location about 1hr and 20 mins from downtown Reykjavik. Terrific staff and phenomenal restaurant. The owner is very friendly and hands on.

We stayed at 6 locations over a 9 day trip to Iceland. The staff at Hotel Ranga was significantly better than any other hotel we have stayed at. They operated as a team. Great individuals. Great management. Great leadership. They truly cared about service and experience.
