Just got home after a week’s stay in Gran Canaria at Servatur Waikiki for my birthday with my fiancé, it was lovely to get away from the grind and spend some quality time together. Weather was amazing, didn’t expect the heat that we endured to say we are in April, couldn’t have faulted it - it only started raining as we got on the plane home! Warmest temp was 28’c! The resort has its pros and cons, it’s not the worst place in the world but I am really baffled how it’s rated a 4* hotel. Sooooo average. The room we stayed in was extremely basic, nothing to shout about really and the air con was shocking. Like shockingly bad. We resorted to sleeping with our balcony door open as that was cooler! I would class myself as a light sleeper so I’m amazed I actually slept ok the full week. The rooms are not soundproof and could hear people coming in and out of their rooms constantly, doors slamming at all hours. The beds were two singles as opposed to just a double bed - but in fairness this didn’t bother us as my fiancé and I do prefer separate duvets. They weren’t the comfiest either and towards the end of the holiday I was counting down the days until I was in my own bed at home. We would have also preferred the choice of having more than one pillow to be more comfortable, we had one each and there were no more in the room (ie in the wardrobe like I’ve experienced previously). It was my birthday on the 22nd, and I was gifted a bottle of sparkling rose wine and a birthday card, it was such a lovely gesture so thank you. I don’t usually drink wine but it was actually really nice! We went all inclusive, and if I’m honest we probably should have gone half board and spent our money on eating/drinking out more. Unless you like beer or wine, which I don’t, you’re screwed when it comes to alcoholic drinks. The cocktails are pre made in a machine which I understand from a convenience point of view, but they are not great at all. If I had to choose, the Tequila Sunrise is probably the only one I could comfortably drink. My fiancé did like the Tropicale beer on tap which was self service and also approved of the Sangria. The food was nice and as a fussy eater there was plenty of choice - I never went hungry, however we did find most of the times we went to eat the restaurant was far too busy and congested, there were people everywhere and it started to put us off going at the time we wanted to, it can be seen as quite stressful and I don’t want to feel like that on holiday. The snack bar was our go-to towards the end as that was much more quiet and relaxed. I feel like if there were 2 restaurants it would be much more manageable. Would also like to mention that we arrived at around 10pm on our first day, and they opened up the restaurant purely for late arrivals and put on a cold buffet which was much appreciated, not a lot of places do that so thank you. There are plenty of sunbeds around the resort and we had no trouble getting one every day. Just a he
