About the property: Kookal Eco Farms- A picturesque place to be: Kookal is a beautiful and quaint 32 km drive away from Kodaikanal, the Princess of Hills. If you are able to overcome the temptation of stopping by at the charming spots that dot the route, you can cover this distance of 32 km in a little over an hour from Kodaikanal. It is a perfect destination for those on the lookout for offbeat places to stay. The property is ideal for families and bachelors and can accommodate up to 11 people. Location: Our cottage is located in a 5-acre property, facing the Shola forests and has an excellent view of the Kookal lake Room Details: The cottage can accommodate 5 people, 2 in the bedroom which has a queen-size bed and 3 in the living room (the sofas can double as beds). In order to accommodate bigger groups, we provide tents with air beds, sleeping bags, camp lights, etc. There is an external washroom for the guests in the tents. The Neighbourhood: Kookal has the biggest patch of the rare Shola forests in the entire upper Palani Hills located in the Western Ghats. It would be interesting to note that the Western Ghats is one of the two biodiversity hotspots in India, out of the 35 worldwide. Kookal is home to 165 species of butterflies and a number of relatively uncommon birds such as the wood pigeons, Nilgiri pipit and 15 types of dabchicks besides the bison (Indian Gaur), mouse deers, barking deers, wild dogs, leopards and tigers. There are two beautiful water falls, one that can be reached in a few hundred metres of trekking and another inside the Kookal forest which provides water for the entire village throughout the year. The Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute (CSWRI) at Mannavanur is just a few minutes drive from Kookal. The site is one of the last extensive chunks of high altitude rolling grasslands left in the Palani Hills, spread over 1,340 acres. There are vantage points from where you can get breathtaking views of the sheep farm. The centre breeds sheep and rabbits for wool and meat. The...Show More
