It’s recommended but a bit expensive for backpackers.

We through enjoyed our 3 nights here on a Newmarket Holidays Xmas market deal. The beds were very comfortable & all the staff, including at reception & the chef, were friendly & helpful. There was no choice regarding the food, but we enjoyed the wholesome Swiss cooking. Some has criticised this hotel, but we loved the chalet feel, which in context was so appropriate in the snow.

I recently travelled with the Newmarket group. This hotel was a huge disappointment. Rooms outdated. The carpets were badly worn, dirty with holes in them in both my room and another guests. The food was rubbish and not the best quality. Breakfast was standard but not enough staff. Guests had to boil their own eggs. There was a lack of service during meals and there were no staff to take drinks orders. The TV repeatedly lost connection. It was too warm at night which made sleeping difficult. Basically, this hotel needs a total refurbishment and better management. Could I suggest that the provision of extra pillows and a sandwich bar with a coffee machine available throughout the day would be a good start. Staff were very nice and well mannered but enough of them.

This is probably the lowest standard hotel I've stayed in for a long while. The room was small, drab and old-fashioned (not in a quaint way) and the bed was extremely uncomfortable! It was also extremely hot in the room! I slept terribly during my stay here. I went with New Market holidays and we were offered evening meals at the hotel as part of the cost. The food wasn't great and was of low quality. It wasn't very appetizing and I didn't eat very much, preferring to have snacks in my room after. There also wasn't very much staff on duty especially for such a large group! The only thing that was good about the hotel were the breathtaking views and surroundings.

This is a tricky review to write as if you walk into it with your eyes wide open knowing what you will get then it provides it. If however, you are expecting a normal hotel then you will be sadly disappointed as it is more of a hostel. Based on the reviews we had already adjusted our expectations and even then there were a few things that caught us out. The rooms are basic but clean and quite spacious. I have read that people complain about the lack of a kettle but it is simple enough to get one from reception, you just have to ask and pay a deposit. The same goes for a transformer if you need one. Note there are no lifts so you do need to be able to climb stairs but I did see a stair lift going one flight. The room numbering is a mystery to me (along with many others) so don't be surprised to see people wandering around muttering their room number and looking confused. They don't supply tea bags etc in the room so if you want them you have to provide your own. Do not try to take them from breakfast as this is 'frowned upon' by the management who want to charge you for them from behind the bar. We take our own coffee so was of no consequence to us but there were a couple of heated discussions. Breakfast is a simple buffet affair with cereal and bread along with a small selection of cheese and meats. There was also an egg broiler which is worth watching if for no other reason than to see the confusion on people's faces as they try to work out how to use it. Lunch is not an option The food choice for dinner is non-existent as the chef caters to everyone at the same time with the same set courses. There are restaurants in the village which aren't that far away but it is a steep uphill walk. Bear in mind that Switzerland is expensive so you will not get a cheap meal. The hotel kitchen closes on Monday & Tuesday meaning you will have to eat out, but on Monday bear in mind that most restaurants in the village close as well. There is a co-op (not UK but just the same name) that is within walking distance and in line of sight to the right as you leave the hotel. It's of a reasonable size so you can stock up on provisions. Note it closes at 7 so if you are going to have a 'picnic' get in early. The bar is run by reception so when they go home the bar closes. The timing is a fluid affair as it depends on individual members of staff. At £8 a pint it's not cheap and your choice of beer is lager (one tap does all). Interestingly the wines are all locally produced and the hotel does strive to support local businesses. In conclusion, if you want a simple base to explore Switzerland from and are prepared to accept 'hostel' rather than 'hotel' standards it is fine. As for cost, I have no idea but as mentioned Switzerland is an expensive place and the beer prices were about the same all over.

Not a good experience, stay away. We travelled with our small kid and the lady at reception declined our request to do a bit earlier checkin although we could find out that the rooms were ready at that time, she wasn't kind enough and was continuously on the phone while we waited at reception. Room has no tea/coffee facility, dark inside and a broken chair. Would never book this again.

The hotel is a bit far away from train station. It is more suitable for those who drive there. The hotel building blocks are on its own and not clustered with any other building beyond. We were there from 24 to 28Dec. We were surprised there was no dinner there because the chef was on holiday until 27Dec. Breakfast is fine but the dinner we had on 27Dec was not what we expected. Only fondue with salted sausage can be chosen. It was too salty and difficult to eat at all.

No frills hotel with clean rooms and comfortable beds. Bathroom ventilator didn't work. Food remined me of school dinners - basic, no choice and don't think about complaining as chef has a fiery temper!
