Movich Hotel Rooftop: The Movich Hotel Rooftop took me completely by surprise. It is located atop Hotel Movich Cartagena De Indias, a stunning luxury accommodation belonging to the exclusive and highly notable “Small Luxury Hotels of the World.” I had read many reviews and blogs prior to visiting that said this rooftop is “overrated” and “overcrowded.” I am soooo glad that I ignored those opinions, because Movich Hotel Rooftop is absolutely stunning, and provided me with the best sunset I’ve ever seen in my life. Movich Hotel Rooftop is an excellent vibe, with a nice floorplan layout and enjoyable upbeat tropical music. The food and drinks are delicious. I ordered a ceviche and sipped on a lychee martini and another pretty fruity cocktail while we waited for the sun to set. The sunset view from the Movich Hotel Rooftop is simply mind blowing. The way the sun shines over the water, reflects off the tall new-city skyscrapers in the background, accompanied by the old architecture of the walled-city in the foreground, and lights up the sky in bright-warm colors is a core memory that is forever painted in my mind. I recommend getting to this Cartagena rooftop early, at opening or a little after, as the tables fill up close to sunset. Movich Hotel Rooftop is the perfect place for taking in the most dreamy Cartagena sunsets.

This is a stunning property in the heart of the old town. The rooms are nice and the staff is super friendly. One factor you may want to know and we learnt the hard way is that language is a major issue in Colombia. No one really speaks English and google translate was our best friend. Even in a top notch hotel like Sofitel this may be an issue. Just something to be aware of which came as a surprise to us. Just a FYI The breakfast was fantastic. The fruit choices are exotic and amazing I do want to put in a shout ouut to Carlos Jesús, Jaison , Jose and Jorge who were our servers in our 4 wonderful days at the hotel. I would definitely come back here!!

We stayed for over 3 weeks and were returning guests. They provided us with a comfortable room with a great view. Breakfast was simple but tasty. There was a lot of construction including the road the hotel access is on and the beach is all torn up at present. Walking south on the beach for a half hour is easy and walking a half hour into the old city is easy. Many great restaurants all around the hotel too. The security at the front door were wonderful, and always so welcoming and friendly. The restaurant food was inconsistent but some of the servers were incredible. We ate there frequently.

The double room was perfect. The eternity pool was disappointing, there is no sun until midday as the pool is located on the west of the building and covered by it. When the sun finally shows up there are no umbrellas or any shady areas to protect you if you need to. The lone restaurant operating on the premises is hit and miss at best. The worse of it is the surroundings, the Calle 1 running in front of the hotel along the beach is always crowded with honking taxis. the sidewalks as most Bocagrande sidewalks are like obstacle courses, full of potholes, uneven, sometimes blocked by parking cars. The beach in front of the hotel is ugly with no running water or electricity, so most of the food or juices sold there are suspicious and should be avoided in my opinion. And lastly, the vendors and pedlers are a continuous nuisance, everybody tries to sell you something from trinkets to drinks but at least they are not aggressive, once you tell them to leave you alone they usually do so.

Last night I entered Casa Pestagua wishing to spend only a few minutes while having an appetizer. However, the atmosphere of the place and the kindness of the staff was so wonderful that we decided to stay for dinner. Only a few minutes in the placed and we were surprised by a phenomenal concert of Classic Guitar by Maestro Roberto Angulo. It truly was a delight. I also would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Orlando who took care of us and made the night the highlight of our trip to Cartagena. We were so glad that he took such a good care of us. His attention and service in my opinion 6 stars. The food and everything was wonderful. This place is a must see by anyone looking for a tropical and elegant night in Cartagena.

I had stayed at the Allure Chocolat in the past and loved it. I loved the room, rooftop pool and pool bar, great staff and good breakfast. Location is excellent, close to the walled city. I booked this return trip to stay at the Chocolat only to arrive and after checking in the front desk man said by the way our pool is closed during your stay for a private group. Note their their rooftop pool and pool bar is a key reason for staying here for me. I then asked why they was not stated at the time of booking the room and he couldn't answer that but said don't worry, we will send you in a taxi or shuttle to another hotel to use their pool. Unacceptable. I was upset and asked to speak to the manager. His option was to transfer us to their other hotel Allure Canela which has a pool. He said it's close and easy walking distance to the walled city and it would cover my need to have the pool on site without the hassle of taking taxis or shuttles to get to the pool. So I agreed and regretted it. Allure Canela is a nice hotel, but smaller, noisy location and the pool is the size of a large bathtub and seeing all guests was going there from all 3 Allure hotels in town, it was quite busy with no deck chairs to use most of the time. So the point of this feedback is based on the poor management decision of the Allure Chocolat to block the pool for a private group and not warn guests booking rooms on those dates. I feel this was deceptive and ended up paying too much for a room in a hotel in not so great location. I did get free meals for 2 nights, but this didn't make up for the inconvenience and excitement of staying at the Chocolat. I will highlight the front desk man Felix. He was very nice and tried to help at Chocolat when he had to tell me about the lack of pool facilities. Very nice man.

Beautiful intimate boutique hotel right in Old Town Cartagena. A step away from the city gates and within walking distance to all the sites so it was a great location to stay. Rooms were clean with a comfortable bed, nice sheets and good A/C. As expected being within the city it can get loud at night with all the street noise but that’s part of the experience! The good: excellent location in the Plaza de las Coches and an easy walk to everything you could possibly want to see or do in Cartagena. I was there for 5 days and did not take an Uber or taxi a single time - location is just minutes away from dozens of highly rated restaurants and shops, and an eight minute walk from the up and coming Getsemani neighborhood, which was one of my favorite spots for the local art scene. Something to consider: while the location is central to everything, the plaza immediately in front of the hotel is ”THE” spot for everything. It's a gathering place for party-goers and a natural outflow for people exiting the local clubs and restaurants who still want to socialize. This means that it can be VERY loud at night and well into the early morning. These parties last until almost 5:00 AM. The front desk staff does have earplugs available for those who are bothered by the noise. I wasn't - my room had a balcony that looked over the square and it was fantastic people-watching - this was even better than being on a balcony on Bourbon Street. But the noise level may not be for everyone - if you are traveling with older folks or small children you may want to look for something a little bit further from the center of all the action in Cartagena. The best: the staff at NH were SUPERB and went all out to cater to the needs of their guests - I got to know the staff well, and the manager is a young lady named Geraldine who is very engaged and attentive - she wrote down several restaurant and museum recommendations for me when I asked her about things to do - trust me, the staff will treat you like family here.
