The 5th floor room was quite an experience to behold! Upon entering the wedge-shaped cave, we were met by a strange smell, which receded a little after 24 hours of opening the tiny window onto the concrete central courtyard (the only source of natural light). Cleanliness was a problem, as it was apparent that lamps and switches had not been cleaned for some time. Skirting boards had accumulated considerable amounts of dust. The brownish carpet next to the bed was threadbare and looked dirty. Decor was reminiscent of early 1970s. The beige wallpaper was falling off in places. Wood furniture was of a type that could easily have been picked up from a house clearance after the occupants had died. Ceiling stains from previous water leaks were apparent. Bathroom was that of a poorly installed 1980s design. Of course, shower bracket broken (shower head hassle to be held by hand) and there were brown stains within the bath and tiling. I swear upon using the shower for the first time that the water ran brown, but I could not replicate this later. I hope it was just rust. The toilet paper holder was at least quite humorous - pull the screw out to release the black electrical-taped holder to insert a new roll. This really is a joke. A hotel chain simply shouldn’t regard this as acceptable in 2022. We were offered free drink vouchers as compensation, but the room could not be changed as it was fully booked, due to a health conference - I hope the delegates did not leave more unwell than when they arrived. Positives - staff friendly (and apologetic), nice food, decent Wi-Fi, nice reception and clean bedding and towels.

I came with some friends, this was a special occasion, a celebration and final get together for one of the group who is expecting a baby. We were all really looking forward to it, but I was really disappointed with the quality of the food and, at £30, thought it was incredibly bad value. I would have felt this way even if it hadn't been an important event for the group, but this really added to the disappointment.  I was particularly looking forward to the savouries, but there were two tiny sandwiches and a tiny pastry with some chickpeas on it. One of the sandwiches was cheese, which honestly had a piece of cheese in it that was about 1cm squared and the size of a biscotti and the other, smoked salmon, had barely anything else in it. Also, the bread was not fresh. In terms of the sweets, the biggest cake, the lemon drizzle, was genuinely stale and the use of what can only be perceived as pre-packaged puddings in clear plastic containers seemed cheap and chinsy (not to mention wasteful).  Sadly, the warm, tasty scones are all I can reflect positively on with regards to the food.  Having looked at the Time Out website and seeing The Edgbaston was number one, the picture and description differed a lot from what we experienced.  I love eating out and feel that both the quality and value here was really below par; especially when I consider what I could get elsewhere for £30. I have had afternoon teas in many other places and this has been the worst, and the most expensive. Two of the party had the veggie option and they had a slightly bigger sandwich, which seems an unnecessary inconsistency. Finally, the service was also a bit slow and we often had to go and look for staff. I appreciate there are some circumstances in the current climate which means these things are perhaps outside of their control, but the quality of the food was inexcusable in relation to the high cost. I have emailed the Edgbaston regarding this (basically this review) and have not received a response, even after chasing it.

Shane was really helpful in suggesting food and drinks and it was a nice, relaxed environment at the bar for our food. The food was well presented and tasty. The superfood salad was really nice. Definitely have the extra chicken. The desserts were also excellent. Sticky toffee pudding and chocolate brownie were also great. Would recommend it for a relaxing drink and food. Great service. Shane and Jessica were really nice.

The hotel is located in the northeast of the university campus. The environment is beautiful and the facilities are perfect...no lunch, but you can go to the nearby Winterburn Garden to eat (you can visit for free)...the hotel is a bit far from the student dormitory, the dormitory area is in the southwest of the university. direction

According to the person I booked for, the price is not worth the room she was assigned, but it’s okay for a stay for a night but not for a continuous stay. Overall it’s okay.
