No one in reception make me stand outside of hotel. When I call the number in front of the door, the staff keep questioning weird things and say I didn’t make booking. After questioning 5 minutes, only the staff come out and open the door. In reception area, staff keep saying I didn’t book their hotel. After 20 minutes, only they find my booking in their computer. This is the staff mistake which she didn’t check my reservation properly, after this the staff didn’t say sorry about this. She just let me check in, then no even say sorry to me. So this is the way that This Hotel Staff treat their customer. Just like Their SOP is when see customer come 1st SOP = keep saying their customer no booking, 2nd SOP = let customer stand outside. 3rd SOP= let customer in but still say no booking. 4th SOP =After customer pissed off for being keep proofing they have booking, then only they find customer booking details in computer.

Why glorify these dark alleys which look like the neighborhood where Jack the Ripper lurk for his next victim? The ”hotel” is supposed to be ”designer hotel”. It's a prison. Period. Full of hazardous corners and dangerous pits. Pool was so heavily chlorinated that the water stung. Door handle came off, stupid latch on the outside of the room, multiple key card systems that could potentially kill if a fire breaks. I almost got stuck in the common bathroom because the latch refused to budge when I wanted to get out. Sink at the common area was greasy. The reception was almost impossible to find. Do not take your elderly family members or small children to this hotel. I booked it coz I had no choice at such a short notice. Not worth the money either. Seriously, MPI should re-inspect that place and take back the accommodation license. Look at the ”barrier” from the rooftop pool to the ground below. No banister. It's lower than my knee if I stand next to it. One wrong move, you'd plummet down. Steps made out of metal grating. No safety yellow stickers to differentiate the levels. Totally NOT safe! Paloh was a malay & orang asli (“native”) kampung (“village”) that has been around from at least the 18th century. Apparently the names comes from the founder of the village itself Toh Paloh. Paloh, or palung, also means a depression in the ground that holds water, or a fishing hole to catch fish. It is believed that Paloh was also a boat dock in the past. Some other views hold that the Hakka were the founders of Paloh, and only later came the Cantonese. According to this theory, the origin of the name is a symbolic reference to the dams that were constructed along the Kinta River for fishing purposes. These dams were referred to as “Pa-Lo” in the Cantonese dialect and eventually the area became known as Paloh. Paloh today has of course become the heart of the city of Ipoh. In this old part of the city pre-war Shop Houses line the streets, with a predominantly Chinese character. “Sarang” is a malay word meaning nest, hence “Sarang Paloh” means “The Nest in Paloh”, evoking the image of the hotel as a place of rest for the weary traveller. Located on Jalan Sultan Iskandar (formerly Hugh Low Street), Sarang Paloh is located in pre-war two storey shop houses that originally were the premises of a Goldsmith and a Bank more than 90 years ago. The façade of one of the buildings still has the name of the Goldsmiths on its façade in English, Chinese and Malay (jawi script), with the stately bank building still has the name of Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited on its front. Across the road, Sarang Paloh has another shophouse of which the ground floor has been converted into a carpark. If you have a car, this is where you would park. Parking is complimentary, but you must exercise caution, turning right into the shophouse entrance as Jalan Sultan Iskandar is a pretty high traffic road, and the building inside is quite narrow, with the cars having to be parked bumper to bumper, in two rows. Exit is out through the back of the shophouse into a back lane. Do bear in mind that if the shophouse is full of cars, you may get boxed in by other parked cars and not able to exit! Fortunately this did not happen to us while we stayed here. Getting to the hotel means having to cross the busy road again on foot, with your luggage, from the car to the hotel. The main reception area was in the former Goldsmith’s building, and the entire front of the shop house is dedicated to the reception. To get in the front door, you will need your access card, or the staff inside will have to let you in, if you have yet to check in. The central part of shop house is a courtyard with a spiral staircase going upstairs to the 2nd floor, and in the back is a sort of pantry area with dining table. Staircase at the back also leads upwards. We had booked a room at the back of the shophouse on the 2nd floor, as we were aware of reviews that rooms in front may have some street noise. The rooms are all named after birds, in line with the hotel itself being a “nest”. Our room wa

We stayed here for only one night after coming down from Penang. It’s a small boutique hotel with basic amenities but very close to all tourist attractions. We checked in quite late at about 7pm, so the road to Jalan Bandar Timah was quite empty. The next morning, we were surprised because the road leading to everywhere was so jammed and all shops (coffee shops & restaurants) were so packed with people, long queues everywhere! Even though this is a small hotel, but it is very clean. Remember to bring your own toiletries as only shampoo and shower gel were provided in the room. Other than that, everything was good. Highly recommended for those love to walk around and learn about history of Perak.

The hotel is like a jasmine in a fairyland. A magical forest wonderland. This is how I felt when I entered the hotel. There is such a quiet place in the noisy and busy old Ipoh town, with bamboo, brocade, dripping water and wood carvings. My impetuous state of mind was immediately at peace, and was deeply attracted by the tranquility of this wonderland, which will always be my private resting place no matter how far I leave it.

went here on early Feb 2023. I thought it was just a normal shop lot/budget hotel. However when i step in the lobby, i got shock with the interior & ambience, feels like in a 4 star hotel. The housekeeping staff name Hidayah really did a great job for do some room tour with us. she show us a few room type and explained every details & facilites in the hotel. the reception (Indian guy, cant remember his name) was very polite & helpful upon check in. This hotel has a live band every evening, free parking area for guest (but have to walk a bit), a nice and cozy restaurant & a small gym. the bed & pillow was so cozy, it has aircond & fan too! They provided USB charger as well in the room. The shower room was spacious and very clean. i would love to recomended this hotel to all if you all want to have a trip at IPOH!

Room decor is grey and added in yellow dim lights, the setting is somewhat depressing even when it's a sunny day outside. Overall it’s a comfortable stay. The location is quiet and plenty of parking. Unfortunately the room was quite dusty when we entered, our feet is full of dust and a small cockroach at the corner. Then again, for this kind of price we truly didn’t expect much. The lobbyist is kind enough to lend us the cleaning supplies to clean the floor again. Toilet is good and everything works well. Bedding is clean as well and there are a lot of electrical ports at both side of the bed for us to charge our phones. There’s only a bar and a high class restaurant nearby, so in order to have meals we must drive out.

When looking for hotel to book, the first criteria is location. This hotel is located away from down town and not too far away from down town. So, it is a rather quiet place. Very good. Next, was the offer of room rate, which is attractive. This pass. So, went ahead to book the dates of stay in Ipoh for this hotel. Upon arrive, the outlook of the hotel was rather impressive, very spacious lobby. When doing the check in, the front desk worker are foreigners. So, English and explanation is not very good. Even trying hard to explain in Bahasa Malaysia. Was told that there is no TV channels to watch. Reason given was the government has switched from analog to digital. So, the hotel were not equipped with the digital decoder. Well, this announcement has been made some time ago, and should be prepared to carry out the installation and testing. Not willing to spend money? Okay, without TV to watch is fine. Most ot the time would either be out and running about or just need the bed to sleep. When given the room key, it is the metal key. After getting into the lift to get to the room, the varendah on the floor was rather run down. There is self ironing service, where the ironing board cloth is rather burnt. Open the room door, and the room is rather musty. Uneven floor and torn and worn carpet. The windows are nailed and locked, therefore it could not be open. The window glass were tinted and the tint film is having blisters. Hence, not a clear view looking out from the room. The bed is okay. But the bathroom is very narrow and tight. The shower when turn on, will wet the toilet bowl and the wash basin. There is no cupboard, it is just a narrow spaced nailed together with planks to serve as a cupboard. Generally the room is very narrow too. Overall the room is very run down. There is no stool, no desk. So, have to use a bedside drawer to put the luggage and sitting on the bed to work with a very small and narrow coffee table. Wifi is very weak and intermittent.

The „retreat“ Faces a Wild Garbage disposal and Some wrecked Cars. Restaurants nearby close After lunch. No points of touristic interest nearby but many mosquitos around. Not Even a television in the room as advertised. The „nice Design“ consists of nothing But painted Concrete Walls. The room is Hot, tropical climate. The housekeeper is nice but doesn‘t speak English or knows the area at all. The Management was Not helpful and only Tries to lure tourists inside. I definitely will stay at this hotel again for my next visit. The room comes with a huge TV mounted up and hanging from the ceiling. There is nothing much to watch but it is a smart TV, probably one can surf the Net or Youtube for more entertainment. Our stay at the Golden Roof was terrible. From the start, the check in took a lengthy amount of time even though no one else was waiting to be checked in. When arriving to our first room, there was a huge yellow stain on the bed. Upon complaining for over an hour, the manager finally offered us an upgrade. Unfortunately, the upgrade was actually a downgrade. Wallpaper falling off, dead bugs on the floor, broken window, drainage problems in the bathroom, other people’s hair all over floor and on the bed. I would highly suggest not to book this hotel and waste your money here. The rooms again were terrible, the couches in the lobby even had stains, the hallways smelt like smoke even though it was nonsmoking, and the staff were rude and not willing help correct the issues. Extremely disgusted and disappointed with this establishment!

Reasonably clean. Reception is friendly. Free breakfast on the roof 8.30am-10.30am. Tea, coffee toast, butter, kaya (coconut spread) and scrambled eggs on request. Can chill out on roof in hammocks anytime. We stayed in family king room. 120 ringgit per night plus 10 ringgit per night foreigner tax. 50 ringgit deposit. 1 king bed and 1 single bed. Shower only, soap & toilet dispenser on wall. Hairdryer, fan and air conditioner. There’s a cover for the window which blocks out the light for sleeping. Hallway has water filter, kettle, ironing board and spare toilet. Some rooms here are dorm rooms. There’s a sign out front of hotel for walk ins, pay 3 nights and get 4th night free. Bicycles for hire and drinks sold in lobby. This hotel is in new town. There are some food options in old town in the streets surrounding concubine lane. If you are here on a Tuesday try the night market called pasar malam taman Ipoh timur - large night market. About 10 ringgit grab ride. There’s a Tesco next door with free wifi if you don’t have data, to order a grab back. Walked through gerbang malam approximately 7.15pm on Wednesday night, market stalls were only beginning to set up. Restaurants around there were full. Next night we walked through approximately 9.30pm, all stalls were up. Also try Tong Sui Kai for food. Usual local dishes and dessert. Remember you can only sit in front of the stalls that you will be ordering from. I have done a separate review about this place. There’s also a food court near there.

Beds in Garden Hostel Absolutely the ideal backpacker hotel! When I entered the door, I thought it was just a small backpack inn. After I checked in, the counter sister took us into the bed. The hall was really beautiful, and the space was oversized. There were tables and chairs that could chat with others, and there was room to do things alone. There are also some table games on the table for everyone to play, I really like this atmosphere ~ After arriving at the room, I found that the ceiling version was high. The whole room looked very comfortable and large. There were cabinets under the bed to lock valuables. There were also lights in their own beds that could be turned on and would not affect others. The bathroom equipment is on the other side, far from the room, I like this plan, the bath or wash will not noisy others, the space is also designed very well, and there is shampoo and bath milk, awesome!

Hotel location is near to town. About a 5min grab. The hotel look nice with with rustic look and feel. The room is clean with a dyson(or a look and feel like Dyson) hairdryer. A little thing to take notes is that there is no convenient store in the vacinity and limited food option around the area. But is not a big issue with the cheap grab in ipoh provided that there is time.

The staff are very kind and polite at the reception. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated with movie posters. The shower area was bigger than expected. However, the hot water needed some time to come on. There is a water dispenser at the hallway and a foodcourt is located just next to the hotel, which gives you easy access to food. Overall, it's cozy place to stay in if you are on a budget and just needed a place to stay for the night. Soundproofing for the rooms, however, is very bad. You can literally hear when the room next door is back/out from their room, and when they are taking a shower. Apart from that, even with the windows closed, you can still hear people talking on the streets. How loud was it? I woke up in the middle of the night thinking that I forgot to close the window.

If you’re looking for a cozy place, a quiet environment, a nice lady with a happy smile who will welcome you to this tiny guesthouse, a clean and comfortable room, with the door that you have to remember to lock with a real key like in the old days, if you want to sleep surrounded by silence and be awakened by the chirping of birds, well, this is the place for you. The name itself and the interior decoration want to give a perception of old English cottage, although with a bit too many modern reproductions of old furniture. But it’s cute – and unusual. You can park the car inside – on a first come first serve basis. I was lucky to get the room at the first floor with the larger balcony. The bed is extremely comfortable, and the night silence helps having a perfect sleeping experience. They do not serve breakfast in the morning, but this is not a big issue for me. You can find places for that within a few minutes’ drive from here. That was my first experience there, just for one night. I will probably choose it again on my next trip to Ipoh.
