Chongming Island is an alluvial island in the Yangtze River Delta. China's third largest island, with an area of 1200.68 square kilometers and a population of about 82.15 million. The island is flat, fertile and beautiful in natural environment. It is suitable for self-cultivation. Chongming Island is continuously affected by the sediment accumulation of the Yangtze River, and it adds 5 square kilometers of land every year. It is expected to border the land north in 50 years. Chongming Island is a product of the development of the new Yangtze River Delta, and it is located in the shallow sea outside the Yangtze River Estuary. When the Yangtze River runs east, it flows into the estuary area, due to the reduction of the ratio of precipitation and slow flow speed, a large amount of sediment is gradually deposited here. On one side, the coastal plain is created on the north and south bank of the Yangtze River Estuary, and on the other side, the starry estuary sandbar is formed in the river. In this way, Chongming Island gradually becomes a typical estuary sand island. It has experienced more than 1,000 years of rise and change from the surface to the final formation of the big island!

Chongming Island National Geopark, established on September 19, 2005 with the approval of the Ministry of Land and Resources of the People's Republic of China. Its scope covers the entire Chongming Island, about 76 kilometers wide from east to west, about 13 ～ 18 kilometers wide from north to south, and an area of about 1,200 square kilometers. The park is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, south of Jiading, Baoshan across the river, north of Jiangsu Haimen, Qidong with water, like a shining pearl in the mouth of the Yangtze River.

Chongming Island is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, across the Yangtze River from Shanghai. It is the third largest island in China. The island can see a large number of geological relics and tidal flat landscapes. The island itself is a large geological park. Therefore, the scope of Chongming Island National Geopark covers the entire Chongming Island. Here, you can go to Dongtan Wetland Park to watch the sunrise, watch the migratory birds, go to Xisha Wetland Park to watch the sunset, or go to Dongping National Forest Park to camp with your family and ride a bicycle. The northwest end of Chongming Island has Xisha Wetland and Mingzhu Lake Park. Xisha Wetland is a good place to enjoy the sunset. Standing on the riverside, you can overlook the boats coming and going on the Yangtze River. Autumn and winter are a good time to watch migratory birds. Mingzhu Lake is close to Xisha Wetland, which is a good place for cycling around the lake and relaxing. At the eastern end of the island, there is Dongtan Wetland Park, which faces the sea and is a good place to watch the sunrise and bird watching.
