The 130km journey from Melk to Admont offered breathtaking scenery, making it an ideal route for a road trip. In the afternoon, we arrived in Admont and checked into Hotel Spirodom Admont, located just a 10-minute walk from Admont Abbey. Main highlights of Admont: 1. Admont Abbey Founded in 1074, it's one of Central Europe's oldest Benedictine monasteries, featuring a blend of Baroque and Gothic architectural elements. 2. Admont Library The world's largest monastic library stretches 70 meters long, housing approximately 70,000 precious volumes including over 1,400 manuscripts and 530 incunabula. This Baroque masterpiece showcases ceiling frescoes that harmonize Enlightenment ideals with religious themes. The main reason this breathtaking destination remains so underrated is simply because it sits in the shadow of its hyper famous neighbors, acting as a quiet gateway while absorbing barely a fraction of the mass tourism. This means you get to experience the raw, pristine beauty of the Austrian Alps without fighting for a view, making it the ultimate hidden gem for anyone craving authentic slow travel and untouched nature. My favorite hidden gem tip here is to skip the immediate shoreline crowds and take the easy, gorgeous walking trail that loops around the lake before continuing upward toward the hidden Hinterer Gosausee. Along the path, you will pass trickling alpine streams and small waterfalls like Gosaulacke where the water is so pure it is literally drinking quality. One unforgettable moment was standing by the lake early in the morning when the water was completely still and reflected the entire village like a mirror. I also enjoyed walking through the small streets, taking photos at every corner because the scenery was just so stunning. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, very different from busy cities. Overall, Hallstatt is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited and definitely worth the trip for its breathtaking views and quiet charm.
