Perth, the capital of Western Australia, is an incredibly laid-back city of 1.5 million people which has no need to interact much with the rest of the continent. And why would it? Of course, the fact that Perth is almost 4000 kms from Sydney contributes to its slightly isolated feeling. The 1980s brought rapid growth of Perth, which has a Central Business District with pedestrian only shopping and galleries along with restaurants and clubs in Northbridge. The Fremantle market is another popular stop in this city of 1.5 million.
