6-day Harbin + Snow Town + Changbai Mountain + Yanji itinerary for under 3,000+ per person! — traveler post in Mudanjiang

6-day Harbin + Snow Town + Changbai Mountain + Yanji itinerary for under 3,000+ per person!

Hey everyone! You have to visit Northeast China in winter! This loop from Harbin to Snow Town, Changbai Mountain, and Yanji covers ice sculptures, snow mushrooms, rime, hot springs, and Korean-style cuisine all in one go—it's truly unforgettable! I stayed up late to put this together. It's pure, no-nonsense advice. Just follow this plan👇 🧳 Travel essentials (survival edition) 🧥 Clothing: Thick down jacket + windproof pants + high-top anti-slip snow boots. A hat, scarf, and gloves are must-haves. 📱 Electronics: A power bank is a must! iPhones often shut down in the cold, so remember to stick a hand warmer to your phone. 🧴 Skincare: The north is incredibly dry. Apply plenty of heavy-duty moisturizer, lip balm, and hand cream. 👜 Other: Sunglasses (to prevent snow blindness), a thermos (for hot water anytime), ID, and any discount cards. 🚥 Transportation guide (no-detour edition) ✈️ Long-distance travel: We recommend flying into Harbin and out of Yanji or Changchun to save time and avoid backtracking. 🚗 Intercity car charter/ride-sharing: There is no high-speed rail between Snow Town and Changbai Mountain, so chartering a car is the most convenient option. A legitimate charter costs about CNY 500–800 per day (seats 4–6 people), and drivers are familiar with snowy road conditions, ensuring safety. The drive from Harbin to Snow Town is about 5–6 hours, Snow Town to Changbai Mountain is about 4 hours, and Changbai Mountain to Yanji is only 2 hours. 🗺️ Itinerary 👉D1: Central Street → St. Sophia Cathedral → Ice and Snow World → Stay in Harbin 👉D2: Harbin → Yabuli Ski Resort → Horse-drawn sled → Stay in Yabuli 👉D3: Yabuli → Datudingzi Mountain → Snow Gallery → Snow Town 👉D4: Snow Town → Xueyun Street → Jingpo Lake winter fishing → Stay in Erdaobaihe Town (hot springs) 👉D5: Magic Land rafting → Changbai Mountain North Slope → Internet-famous bullet screen wall → Yanji 👉D6: Yanji → Water Market → Korean Folk Village → Depart from Yanji/Harbin/Changchun 🏨 Accommodation recommendations 🏠 Harbin: Stay near Central Street. You'll be right next to the attractions, making it super convenient for sightseeing and eating. 🏠 Snow Town: You must stay inside the scenic area! It's expensive, but you'll have the night view all to yourself and get to experience a warm kang (heated brick bed). 🏠 Changbai Mountain: Erdaobaihe Town offers great value, or if you have the budget, head straight to the Wanda Resort (includes ski benefits). 🏠 Yanji: Stay near Yanbian University. You'll be right next to the famous bullet screen wall and food streets. 😋 Food guide (hits and misses) 🍜 Harbin: Guo Bao Rou (Lao Chu Jia), Madieer ice cream (best eaten outdoors), Russian cuisine. 🍜 Snow Town: Frozen pears and persimmons (a must-try), iron pot stew. 🍜 Changbai Mountain: Hot spring boiled eggs (CNY 10 for 3, tender and smooth), Korean soybean paste soup. 🍜 Yanji: Service Building cold noodles (with ice chips), Yuan Nainai rice wraps, Jinli Skewers (freshly skewered lamb), and rice cakes at the Water Market—definitely try these. ⚠️ Tips 1️⃣ Stay warm: Never take off your gloves or hat outdoors. Exposed skin will start to hurt from the cold within 10 minutes. Bring plenty of hand warmers. 2️⃣ Anti-slip: The ground in Snow Town is all ice. Wear anti-slip shoes or buy crampons. You'll see people slipping and falling every day. 3️⃣ Avoid traps: Ask for prices before purchasing in Snow Town; refuse "free photos" on the street; book tours through legitimate travel agencies and sign a contract. 4️⃣ Heaven Lake luck: Changbai Mountain Heaven Lake is often closed in winter due to strong winds. Check the official scenic area website on the morning of your departure so you don't make a wasted trip. This trip was so much fun. The portions of Northeast Chinese food are huge and cheap. Everyone, go for it! 🔥

6-day, 5-night comprehensive Northeast loop | Harbin + Snow Town + Changbai Mountain + Yanji ultimate guide — traveler post in Mudanjiang

6-day, 5-night comprehensive Northeast loop | Harbin + Snow Town + Changbai Mountain + Yanji ultimate guide

Winter in the Northeast really comes with its own filter! Snowy wooden houses, frozen snow-capped mountains, and exotic small towns—it gathers all the romance of winter✨ ✅Travel essentials (must-haves to avoid pitfalls) Temperatures in the Northeast in winter are -20–-30°C, so make sure you stay warm! Long waterproof down jackets, fleece-lined snow pants, and non-slip snow boots are standard. Ear-flap hats, thick scarves, and waterproof touchscreen gloves are must-haves. Stock up on heat packs and heated insoles. Phones easily shut down in low temperatures, so carry a power bank with you. The climate is super dry, so bring high-moisturizing face cream and thick lip balm. The snow reflects light strongly, so remember to wear sunglasses to prevent snow blindness. ✅Transportation guide ▫️Long-distance travel: Fly directly to Harbin. Optimal route: Harbin → Snow Town → Changbai Mountain → Yanji. The entire route is one-way, so you won't have to backtrack. ▫️Intercity travel: Many roads between cities are icy mountain roads; self-driving is not recommended! We recommend chartering a car or joining a small group tour. It's cost-effective, allows you to stop and take photos whenever you want, and lets you easily check in at scenic spots like Yaxue Highway and the Sea of Forests and Snowy Plains. It's much freer than taking a bus, and it's worry-free and safe. D1: Central Street → St. Sophia Cathedral → Ice and Snow World → Stay in Harbin D2: Harbin → Yabuli Ski Resort → Horse-drawn sled → Stay in Yabuli D3: Yabuli → Datuodingzi Mountain → Snow Gallery → Snow Town D4: Snow Town → Xueyun Street → Jingpo Lake winter fishing → Stay in Erdaobaihe Town (hot spring) D5: Magic Land rafting → Changbai Mountain North Scenic Area → Internet-famous photo wall → Yanji D6: Yanji → Water Market → Korean Folk Village → Depart from Yanji/Harbin/Changchun ✅Accommodation recommendations 🏨Harbin | Stay near Central Street Within walking distance of St. Sophia Cathedral, the Songhua River, and Ice and Snow World. It's super convenient for sightseeing and dining at night. 🏡Snow Town | Stay in a wooden homestay on Xueyun Street inside the scenic area Features traditional Northeast kang (heated brick bed) rooms. You're right next to the red lanterns and snow mushrooms, the night view is stunning, and you don't have to travel back and forth. ♨️Changbai Mountain | Stay in an Erdaobaihe hot spring hotel Hiking and playing in the snow is exhausting, so soaking in a snowy hot spring at night is the perfect way to relax and heal. 🎎Yanji | Stay near the Internet-famous photo wall/West Market There are Korean-style snacks right downstairs, you can take photos as soon as you step out, and it's super convenient for getting around. ✅Must-try food Harbin: Guo bao rou (sweet and sour pork), Russian-style Western food, Qiulin red sausage, Modern popsicle Snow Town: Iron pot stewed goose, sauerkraut with vermicelli, frozen pears, and frozen persimmons—authentic Northeast comfort food Changbai Mountain: Ginseng chicken soup, hot spring soft-boiled eggs, mountain stir-fry—fresh, fragrant, and nourishing Yanji: Bibimbap in a stone pot, spicy chicken feet, Korean blood sausage, authentic cold noodles—every bite is a taste of Korean culture ✅Comprehensive tips 1. Best time to visit: December–February. The snow scenery is most spectacular. Be sure to book hotels and attraction tickets in advance during peak season. 2. Check the weather for Changbai Mountain Heaven Lake! It may close temporarily due to strong winds or blizzards, so remember to check announcements before you set off. 3. The temperature difference between indoors and outdoors is huge. Take off your coat promptly when entering indoors to avoid catching a cold from the temperature change. 4. Don't keep your hands in your pockets when walking on snow. Slow down to prevent slipping and falling. 5. Northeast portions are huge, so don't over-order! Yanji dishes tend to be spicy; tell the owner in advance if you don't eat spicy food. 6 days and 5 nights, from the romance of the Ice City to the fairytale Snow Town, from the secret snowy mountains to the exotic charm of Yanji—this is the most worthwhile winter trip🌨️

Take my advice: for a winter trip to Harbin + Snow Town + Changbai Mountain + Yanji, this guide is all you need — traveler post in Mudanjiang

Take my advice: for a winter trip to Harbin + Snow Town + Changbai Mountain + Yanji, this guide is all you need

Ladies! Winter in Northeast China is romantic to the core, but it's also cold to the bone 🥶. If you want to experience Harbin, Snow Town, Changbai Mountain, and Yanji all in one go, be sure to save this ultimate guide—it will help you avoid 90% of the pitfalls! 🧥 Travel essentials ✅ Don't take chances: thermal underwear + sweater + down jacket is the bare minimum. Pants must be fleece-lined, and you must buy thick, non-slip, waterproof snow boots. ✅ A hat, scarf, and gloves are non-negotiable. Bring plenty of hand warmers; stick them not only on your body but also on your phone, otherwise iPhones will shut down in seconds. 🚥 Transportation guide ✈️ For long-distance travel, I recommend flying into Harbin; there are many flights and they are affordable. 🚗 For the route covering Harbin, Snow Town, Changbai Mountain, and Yanji, I highly recommend hiring a car. Public transportation is too much of a hassle. Hiring a car allows you to stop and explore whenever you want, and it saves you from the nightmare of transferring with luggage in the snow. 🏠 Accommodation recommendations 🏰 In Harbin, stay near Central Street for convenient shopping and dining; 🏠 In Snow Town, you must stay inside the scenic area. It's expensive, but you'll get to enjoy the fairytale-like snow mushrooms in the early morning before the crowds arrive; 🏩 For Changbai Mountain, I recommend staying in Erdaobaihe Town; there are many hot spring hotels with great value; 🏨 In Yanji, stay near Yanbian University; the internet-famous wall and delicious food are right downstairs. 🗺️ Itinerary 👉 Day 1: Central Street → Saint Sophia Cathedral → Harbin Ice and Snow World → Stay in Harbin 👉 Day 2: Harbin → Yabuli Ski Resort → Horse-drawn sled → Stay in Yabuli 👉 Day 3: Yabuli → Datudingzi Mountain → Snow Gallery → Stay in Snow Town 👉 Day 4: Snow Town → Xueyun Street → Jingpo Lake winter fishing → Stay in Erdaobaihe Town (hot springs) 👉 Day 5: Magic Land drifting → Changbai Mountain North Scenic Area → Internet-famous "bullet screen" wall → Stay in Yanji 👉 Day 6: Yanji → Water Market → Korean Folk Village → Return from Yanji/Harbin/Changchun 🍜 Food recommendations ✅ You must try Madieer popsicles and iron pot stew in Harbin; ✅ Have a hot meal of Northeast-style pork stew in Snow Town; ✅ Don't miss the hot spring-boiled eggs at Changbai Mountain; they are incredibly tender; ✅ Once in Yanji, go all out on cold noodles, barbecue, and rice wine. The sticky rice cakes and blood sausages at the Water Market are cheap and authentic. ⚠️ Tips 1️⃣ Whether the Changbai Mountain Heavenly Lake is open depends on luck. Remember to keep an eye on the official WeChat account at 6:30 AM every day; it will close on windy days, so don't make the trip for nothing. 2️⃣ Snow Town admission is CNY 140, and the shuttle bus is CNY 15. Activities like snowmobiling inside are charged separately. If you don't want to do those, just strolling along Xueyun Street and taking photos is beautiful enough. 3️⃣ The internet-famous wall in Yanji only looks good for photos when it's lit up at night; it's not nearly as impressive during the day. This winter, you really should visit Northeast China with someone you love~ ⛄️❤️

Harbin + Xuexiang + Changbai Mountain + Yanji 6-Day 5-Night Ultimate Guide: 3k+ RMB per Person!

Ladies! Winter in Northeast China is absolutely worth a trip 🐛 From Harbin's ice sculpture castle to Xuexiang's mushroom houses, to Changbai Mountain's rime ice rafting, and finally transforming into a Korean princess in Yanji... this trip had my Moments blowing up with questions! I stayed up all night organizing my hard-earned tips, so follow this guide and you won't step on any landmines 👇 🧥 Packing Essentials (Survival Edition) 1️⃣ Choose a down jacket with 200g+ fill and windproof fabric. Don't wear pure cotton as a base layer (you'll cry when sweat freezes). Layer thermal pants underneath. 2️⃣ Shoes must be waterproof and slip-resistant. Ice cleats are a must for Xuexiang and Changbai Mountain! 3️⃣ Bring at least 20 heat packs. Stick them on your body and your phone (Apple devices shut down instantly in low temps). 4️⃣ Sunglasses are a must — they prevent snow blindness and make for great photos. 🚥 Transportation Guide ✈️ Getting there: We recommend flying into Harbin and out of Changchun/Yanji to avoid backtracking. 🚗 Private car: We recommend hiring a private car for the Harbin → Xuexiang → Changbai Mountain leg. A 5-seat SUV costs about 800 RMB/day. Make sure to use a reputable platform with winter tires — ignore the cheap unlicensed drivers on the roadside. 🗺️ Itinerary 👉 Day 1: Central Street → Saint Sophia Cathedral → Ice and Snow World → Stay in Harbin 👉 Day 2: Harbin → Yabuli Skiing → Horse-drawn sleigh ride → Yabuli 👉 Day 3: Yabuli → Dadudingzi Mountain → Ice and Snow Gallery → Xuexiang 👉 Day 4: Xuexiang → Xueyun Street → Jingpo Lake winter fishing → Stay in Erdaobaihe Town (hot springs) 👉 Day 5: Magic World Rafting → Changbai Mountain North Scenic Area → Trending bullet comment wall → Yanji 👉 Day 6: Yanji → Water Market → Korean Folk Village → Return from Yanji/Harbin/Changchun 🏡 Accommodation Recommendations 🏨 In Harbin, stay near Central Street — convenient for sightseeing, food, and taxis. 300–500 RMB/night during peak season. 🏨 In Xuexiang, stay in a heated kang room inside the scenic area to experience a toasty Northeast night, but book well in advance during peak season. 🏨 In Changbai Mountain, stay in Erdaobaihe Town and enjoy the volcanic hot springs — absolutely amazing. 🏨 In Yanji, stay near Yanbian University or the trending wall — food is right downstairs. 🍜 Food Highlights ✅ Harbin: Guobaorou (sweet and sour pork) and Modern ice pops (best enjoyed outdoors for the authentic experience). ✅ Xuexiang: Frozen pears, frozen persimmons, and iron pot stew. Changbai Mountain: hot spring eggs (10 RMB for 3). ✅ Yanji: Shunji naengmyeon (available in warm broth version in winter), Water Market tteokbokki and blood sausage — absolutely incredible. ⚠️ Heed This Advice 1️⃣ Whether Heaven Lake on Changbai Mountain is open depends on the weather — check the announcement before you go. 2️⃣ Walk like a penguin on snow — small, slow steps. Don't keep your hands in your pockets. 3️⃣ Put your camera and phone in a sealed bag before entering buildings, or they'll fog up and be ruined. 4️⃣ Always ask the price before buying anything in Xuexiang. Don't touch the overpriced roadside ski gear. The cold in Northeast China is physical damage, but the fun is magic damage! Tag your bestie and start saving up ❄️

You have to visit Northeast China in winter! The ultimate guide to Harbin + Snow Town + Changbai Mountain + Yanji

Ladies! Winter in Northeast China is truly the ultimate romantic destination 😭 Harbin's ice sculptures, Snow Town's mushroom houses, Changbai Mountain's frozen Heaven Lake, Yanji's Korean-style cuisine... After this trip, everyone on my social media thought I went to Northern Europe! I just got back and stayed up all night to organize this. No fluff, just useful tips. Save this and go! 🧣 Essential packing list (survival edition) 🧥 Don't wear cotton base layers! If you sweat, you'll freeze. Quick-dry clothing + fleece + windproof down jacket is the standard combo. For bottoms, you must layer with fleece-lined pants. 🥾 Shoes must be waterproof and non-slip snow boots; regular cotton shoes will get soaked in half an hour. 📱 Bring plenty of hand warmers, mainly to stick on your phone. iPhones will literally shut down in seconds at -20°C. 👓 Sunglasses are a must; the reflection on the snow is strong and can easily cause snow blindness. 🚥 Transportation guide ✈️ Long-distance travel: We recommend flying into Harbin and out of Yanji to avoid backtracking. After Harbin, head to Snow Town. Carpooling from Snow Town to Changbai Mountain takes about 4 hours, and the high-speed train from Changbai Mountain to Yanji is very convenient. 🚗 Private car/Carpooling: The roads to Snow Town are icy and slippery, so definitely do not drive yourself! Legitimate carpooling from Harbin to Snow Town is about 120 CNY/person. Private car hire is 500–800 CNY/day (4–6 seats), and drivers are familiar with road conditions and safe. 🗺️ Itinerary 👉 D1: Central Street → St. Sophia Cathedral → Harbin Ice and Snow World → Stay in Harbin 👉 D2: Harbin → Yabuli Ski Resort → Horse-drawn sled → Stay in Yabuli 👉 D3: Yabuli → Dadingzi Mountain → Snow Gallery → Snow Town 👉 D4: Snow Town → Xueyun Street → Jingpo Lake winter fishing → Stay in Erdaobaihe Town (hot springs) 👉 D5: Magic Land rafting → Changbai Mountain North Scenic Area → Internet-famous bullet screen wall → Yanji 👉 D6: Yanji → Water Market → Korean Folk Custom Park → Return from Yanji/Harbin/Changchun 🏡 Accommodation recommendations 🏨 Harbin: Stay near Central Street for convenient sightseeing and dining. Make sure to choose a place with good heating. 🏨 Snow Town: Book a heated kang homestay in advance! Prices double during peak season and they sell out fast. Choose one with a private bathroom; don't stay in a dormitory-style room. 🏨 Changbai Mountain: Erdaobaihe Town offers good value. If you want to ski and soak in hot springs, stay in the Wanda Resort area. 🏨 Yanji: Stay near Yanbian University; the internet-famous wall and food street are right downstairs. 🍲 Food recommendations ✅ Must-try: Harbin's guobaorou (sweet and sour pork) and iron pot stewed goose. ✅ Prices in Snow Town are on the higher side. Just try the frozen pears and frozen persimmons for fun; it's more cost-effective to have main meals back in Harbin. ✅ Warm up with some Korean-style BBQ after coming down from Changbai Mountain. ✅ One-stop shop at Yanji Water Market for rice cakes, blood sausage, and kimchi. Buy pollack at the West Market as a souvenir. ⚠️ Tips 1️⃣ You don't need to pay to throw water into ice in Snow Town; just get hot water from your homestay and do it yourself. 2️⃣ Whether Heaven Lake is open depends on the weather. Keep an open mind; the rime scenery and rafting at the foot of the mountain are equally stunning. 3️⃣ Do not touch metal with bare hands; your tongue and hands will literally stick to it. 4️⃣ The Dream Home in Snow Town charges an entrance fee. If you just want to take photos of the snow mushrooms, the surrounding area is enough for great shots; no need to spend money unnecessarily. While the snow season is in full swing, tag your foodie buddy and go! ❄️

Winter Travel Guide to Harbin, Snow Town, Changbai Mountain, and Yanji — traveler post in Mudanjiang

Winter Travel Guide to Harbin, Snow Town, Changbai Mountain, and Yanji

Ladies! Winter in Northeast China is breathtakingly romantic 😭 but also bone-chillingly cold! If you want to explore Harbin, Snow Town, Changbai Mountain, and Yanji all in one trip without freezing or getting scammed, this ultimate guide is a must-save! Packed with practical tips and no fluff, read it and you’re ready to go! 🧳 Must-Have Travel Essentials (Survival Edition) Don’t underestimate the power of -20°C to -30°C temperatures! 🧥 Top: Thermal underwear + sweater + down jacket. 👖 Bottom: Fleece-lined thermal pants + windproof outer pants (ladies, don’t wear single-layer pants, you’ll freeze!). 🥾 Shoes: Must be non-slip, waterproof, and thick snow boots. Get thick socks too. 👜 Don’t forget a hat, gloves, and scarf. Bring a thermos to sip hot water in the snow. Pack plenty of heat packs—not just for your body but also for your phone, as iPhones tend to shut down in extreme cold. 🚥 Transportation Tips ✈️ Major Transport: Fly to Harbin Taiping Airport or take a high-speed train to Harbin Station/West Station. There are many national flight routes, and prices are relatively stable. 🚗 Car Rental/Carpooling: This is the most recommended way to travel between cities in Northeast China! The roads from Harbin to Snow Town and then to Changbai Mountain are long and slippery due to snow, so self-driving is not advised. Make sure to book with a legitimate travel agency or licensed car service, sign a contract, and get insurance. A 5-seater SUV or a minivan is usually more comfortable, and experienced drivers are safer on icy roads. 🗺️ Suggested Itinerary 👉 Day 1: Central Street → St. Sophia Cathedral → Ice and Snow World → Stay in Harbin 👉 Day 2: Harbin → Yabuli Ski Resort → Horse-drawn sled ride → Stay in Yabuli 👉 Day 3: Yabuli → Datudingzi Mountain → Ice and Snow Gallery → Snow Town 👉 Day 4: Snow Town → Snow Charm Street → Jingpo Lake Winter Fishing → Stay in Erdaobaihe Town (hot springs) 👉 Day 5: Magic Forest Drift → Changbai Mountain North Scenic Area → Instagrammable Wall → Yanji 👉 Day 6: Yanji → Water Market → Korean Folk Village → Return from Yanji/Harbin/Changchun 🏨 Accommodation Recommendations 🏠 Harbin: Stay near Central Street for easy access to food and attractions like St. Sophia Cathedral and Ice and Snow World. 🏠 Snow Town: Experience a traditional Northeast kang bed! While it’s not as luxurious as a star-rated hotel, the cozy atmosphere is unmatched. Choose accommodations near Snow Charm Street for convenience. 🏠 Changbai Mountain: If budget allows, stay at Wanda Resort for an all-in-one skiing and hot spring experience. For a more budget-friendly option, stay in Erdaobaihe Town, which is close to the North Slope entrance and has plenty of dining options. 🏠 Yanji: Stay near Yanbian University or the Water Market. You’ll be close to the Instagrammable wall and delicious food—super convenient. 😋 Food Recommendations 🍜 Harbin: Sweet and sour pork (try Lao Chu Jia), Madieer ice cream bars (original flavor on Central Street), and iron pot stew (worth the wait). 🍜 Snow Town: Frozen pears and persimmons (soak them in water before eating), and rock-hard candied hawthorn skewers. 🍜 Changbai Mountain: Hot spring boiled eggs (10 yuan for three, with firm yolks and tender whites) and Korean rice cakes. 🍜 Yanji: Service Building Cold Noodles (sweet, sour, and refreshing), Jeonju Bibimbap, and Water Market morning market (try rice cakes, blood sausage, and potato dumplings—go on an empty stomach!). ⚠️ Tips to Keep in Mind 1️⃣ Tianchi Lake at Changbai Mountain is weather-dependent: It’s often closed in winter due to strong winds and heavy snow. Check the official WeChat account for updates on the morning of your visit to avoid a wasted trip. 2️⃣ Throwing boiling water to make ice: Use boiling water and throw it against the wind or sideways—never with the wind, or you might burn yourself! 3️⃣ Instagrammable wall in Yanji: It looks even better when lit up at night. Grab a coffee with "Yanji" printed on the cup for a perfect photo prop. 4️⃣ Spending in Snow Town: Management has improved a lot, but always ask for prices before ordering to avoid unnecessary disputes. 5️⃣ Stay moisturized: The dry cold in the north can be harsh. Bring face cream and body lotion, or you’ll end up with flaky skin (don’t ask how I know this 😅). This winter, make it a point to visit Northeast China with your best friends! Roll in the snow, munch on frozen pears on a kang bed, and live a day as the heroine of a K-drama in Yanji! 💕

You know what I mean!! Autumn in Northeast China is just breathtaking — traveler post in Mudanjiang

You know what I mean!! Autumn in Northeast China is just breathtaking

It’s home to the Lesser and Greater Khingan Mountains and Changbai Mountain, yet people only think of it in winter. But autumn in the Northeast is truly speechless-level beautiful 🤯 Plus, it’s uncrowded and affordable! Can you believe that the cost of one night in a popular tourist spot can cover a whole week here? 💰 If you’re tired of the crowds at viral photo spots, save this road trip route! Just pull over in any forest, and the whole world is yours 🏔️ 🚙 7-day autumn chasing route: D1 Harbin – Yichun D2 Yichun – Jinshan Deer Park – Daliangzihe Forest Park – Tangwang River – Tangyuan County D3 Tangyuan – Aoqiwan – Hengdaohezi D4 Hengdaohezi – Changbai Mountain Loop – Lushuihe D5 Lushuihe – Songjianghe – Tonghua D6 Tonghua – Benhuan Highway – Qingman Fenglin – Yanghugou – Benxi D7 Benxi – Guanmen Mountain – Shenyang 🍁 Best viewing period: Late September – mid-October Autumn colors don't wait! Hesitate for a few days and the leaves will all be gone 😱 🔻 Yichun Jinshan Deer Park 🔻 The only tourist spot I recommend on the whole trip! You must get there early in the morning! Go before the deer head up the mountain. It’s freezing in the morning 🥶, but seeing the deer in the morning mist makes it all worth it! 🔻 Changbai Mountain North Slope Loop Road 🔻 A stunning section of G331! From Erdaobaihe to Songjianghe, the colorful forests along the way are layered with gold, as rich in color as a palette 🎨 You can also see the snow-capped peak of Changbai Mountain from a distance—you can take blockbuster photos without even entering the scenic area. 🔻 Benhuan Highway 🔻 The legendary China Maple Leaf Avenue!! The best parts are at Qingman Fenglin and Yanghugou; they’re free and even more beautiful than the scenic areas. When the maple leaves turn bright red on both sides of the stream and the colorful forest reflects in the water, it’s truly beyond words 😭 🔻 Heda Highway 🔻 On the way from Songjianghe to Tonghua along G201, I stumbled upon a fairytale-like forest. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, just like walking into a movie scene 🎬 💡 Autumn chasing tips: ✅ Don't go into the scenic areas! They’re crowded and have fewer leaves; aunties pluck the red leaves to make wreaths 😅 ✅ The autumn sun in the Northeast is gentle, perfect for taking photos all day long 📸 ✅ It gets dark after five! Start early while it’s light out! ✅ Self-driving is recommended! The scenery on the road is way, way more beautiful than in the scenic areas. ✅ Be decisive when chasing autumn! If you see fallen leaves, change locations; the autumn colors a few hundred kilometers away might be just right. Autumn in the Northeast is truly stunning and off the beaten path. Go for it before too many people discover it! 🏃‍♀️

A treasure trove for autumn self-driving in the Northeast: experience lakes, mountains, forests, and century-old towns all in one trip! — traveler post in Mudanjiang

Mudanjiang is the true treasure for autumn self-driving in the Northeast. You can experience lakes, mountains, forests, and century-old towns all at once. Avoid the crowds and stop whenever you like—the scenery is all along the way. 3-day self-driving loop Day 1: Depart from the city and head straight to Jingpo Lake. Visit the Diaoshuilou Waterfall, see the lake reflecting the colorful autumn forests, and take a boat tour on the lake. In the afternoon, explore the Underground Forest in the Crater and hike through the volcanic lava forest. Stay near Jingpo Lake in the evening and try an authentic lake fish feast. Day 2: Drive to the Russian-style town of Hengdaohezi. Check out the fan-shaped locomotive depot and old Russian wooden houses—perfect for vintage-style photos. If you have time, visit the Northeast Tiger Park and take a sightseeing bus to see the tigers up close. For lunch, try the town's local jinbing (thin pancakes) with wild mountain vegetables, and return to the city in the evening to stay overnight. Day 3: Relax and unwind. You can choose to visit Sandaoguan National Forest Park for an oxygen-rich hike through the colorful mountain forests, or watch the sunset by the river at the Riverside Wetland Park. Explore the city, enjoy a steaming hot iron pot stew, buy local specialties like wood ear mushrooms and mountain goods, and then head home. Self-driving tips The attractions are far apart, so plan your fuel stops in advance. Late autumn has large temperature differences between day and night, so bring a thick jacket and non-slip shoes. Jingpo Lake Scenic Spot

I've visited many 5A scenic spots, and this one was a great experience, mainly due to the staff. The bus ticket inspectors were very welcoming, greeting me warmly. Because it was the off-season, there weren't many people, and the driver, worried about missing my waterfall viewing, took the entire shuttle bus just for me – I was very touched. When I travel alone, I ask someone to take my picture, and if it happens, the staff will say "Welcome back next time" afterward – very thoughtful. With the recent popularity of Qing Dynasty dramas, this place recreates some scenes from Ningguta, which is quite interesting. Jingpo Lake itself is also very scenic, with a large body of water. The boat tour takes over an hour and is very comfortable!

China Snow Town

Although many say China's Snow Town is becoming too touristy & expensive (compared to Snow Valley), I think it is still worth visiting. There are lots of ACTIVITIES to do all within walking distance. Reindeer rides, feeding, skiing, photo op including the hot water vapor video etc. One down side is that there was no signage to designated bus to/from Yabuli station (no waiting area either). It is also difficult to find restaurants for people with dietary restrictions (eg. Vegetarian, halal etc).

Hengdao Tiger Forest Park

After exiting Hengdaohezi East Station, take a taxi for 10 yuan to the visitor center. Inside, buy a 10 yuan shuttle bus ticket. After scanning the code to enter the park, take the shuttle bus to the wild training area to see the tigers. There are about 40 tigers; do not feed them while on the bus. After getting off the bus, there is a designated area for feeding the tigers. There are also other animals you can observe and feed.

Hengdaohezi Town

In late September, the autumn atmosphere of Hengdaohezi Town was in full swing, its beauty reminiscent of a richly colored oil painting. A thin morning mist shrouded the forest, and sunlight filtered through the branches, scattering golden leaves across the ground like scattered gold. The air was filled with the delicate fragrance of pine resin and earth, a deep breath refreshing and refreshing. This town prospered thanks to the Chinese Eastern Railway, a century ago serving as a major railway hub. Today, the old locomotive shed, water tower, and remnants of the railway tracks stand quietly, testament to its former prosperity. Russian-style architecture dotted the landscape, with pointed wooden houses and carved window frames complementing the autumn colors, creating a sense of time travel. Stone-paved streets meandered along, punctuated by a staggered arrangement of wooden houses. Red peppers and ears of corn hanging from the eaves complemented the Russian-style carved balconies. Occasionally, a horse-drawn carriage passed by, the clatter of horse hooves echoing through the streets, blending with the distant whistle of a train, creating a unique and captivating atmosphere. Outside the town, surrounded by mountains, the forests are a vibrant tapestry. Red, yellow, orange, and green interweave into a vibrant canvas, reflected in the clear river. A gentle breeze sways light and shadows, and fallen leaves drift on the water, carrying away the lingering warmth of summer. Autumn in Hengdaohezi is not only a visual feast but also a spiritual retreat. Local residents leisurely sit in front of their homes, basking in the sun, while children chase and play in the woods. The slow and relaxing pace here makes one forget the hustle and bustle of the city. In the evening, the setting sun bathes the town in a golden glow. Standing on the bridge, the historic weight of the Middle East Railway, the exotic charm of Russian architecture, and the rich autumn atmosphere blend seamlessly, creating a unique charm that makes Hengdaohezi so unforgettable.

Crater National Forest Park

It's more fun than Jingpo Lake. The sightseeing bus ride into the mountains alone takes half an hour. There are three attractions, and it's best to allow two hours for the last one, the crater forest, otherwise it will be too rushed, and my knees will be sore from walking.

Xuexiang National Forest Park

If you have time, definitely buy the package ticket on the bus—it's super fun! Some people brought several large plastic bags; you can ski and roll around on the mountain! (It's difficult without plastic bags, as they don't sell them on the mountain!)

Weihushan Film And Television City

During summer vacation, we took the kids out to play and passed by Hengdaohezi. We rushed straight to the Tiger Park and Weihushan Film and Television City. The Tiger Park was great. We could see Siberian tigers up close and even saw Siberian tiger cubs. The little guys could even open the door, which was really fun.

Xueyun Street

It is best to avoid holidays when visiting Xuexiang, as the prices of various attractions during holidays will be higher than usual. There are many food, accommodation and transportation shops on Xueyun Street, and the prices are relatively cheaper.

Erlanghe Scenic Area

Erlanghe Tourist Scenic Area is located in the middle section of Zhangguangcai Mountains, on the northeast side of Laotudingzi, and is connected to China Snow Town in the south. The climate is similar to that of China Snow Town. The snow season lasts for 7 months and the snow thickness can reach about 2 meters. The amount of snow, snow quality and snow viscosity are extremely special. The wonders such as snow hangings and rime that take shapes according to objects amaze all tourists. Its landscape is comparable to the snow scenery of Xuexiang and Yabuli Scenic Area!
