Rare dual-scenery view in Shimenfang, Linqu, Weifang! See red leaves + sunflowers in one trip — traveler post in Linqu

Rare dual-scenery view in Shimenfang, Linqu, Weifang! See red leaves + sunflowers in one trip

When people mention Shimenfang, the first thing that comes to mind is the premier red leaf destination in Qilu. But few know that the period around National Day is its unique, limited-time window✨ Golden sunflowers meet the early-tinged red leaves across the mountains; two autumn colors come together. Enjoy the scenery, visit historical sites, and have family-friendly fun—all in one stop. The top choice for a short autumn getaway in Shandong! 🌻 Oil painting-like flower sea under the walnut forest | Limited autumn contrasting colors Fields of sunflowers grow under ancient walnut trees, their sturdy branches setting off the swaying golden flower heads. On the distant hillside, smoke trees are slowly turning crimson. The foreground is a golden sea of flowers, and the background is a gradient of colorful mountains. The cool and warm tones intertwine, like stepping into an oil painting. 💡 Photography tips Avoid the overhead light at noon; prioritize the soft light before 9:00 AM and after 4:00 PM. The mountains and forests are layered, making it easy to snap atmospheric photos of the forest and flower sea. 🪨 Centuries-old cultural sites hidden in the red leaf valley Most tourists only check out the flower sea and red leaves, ignoring the treasures on the rock walls of Shimenfang. Along the mountain stone steps, there are cliff carvings and ancient grottoes to explore while hiking and sightseeing. Enjoy the layered autumn colors while reading the ancient carvings, making autumn viewing more than just taking photos—experience both nature and culture. ✅ Recommended light hiking route Sunflower flower sea spot → Slow walk on stone steps to view carvings → Summit observation deck to overlook the entire colorful valley The route is gentle, no high-intensity climbing required, easy for both young and old. 🎢 Mountain fun | Enjoy autumn and family-friendly activities Worried that hiking is boring? There are plenty of recreational activities here. The mountain glass slide weaves through the colorful forest, and there is also a non-motorized playground and popular photo spots. Adults can get lost in the autumn scenery while climbing, and children can have fun in the playground—the whole family will find something to enjoy. 📝 Practical travel guide ▫️Viewing periods ✅ National Day: Sunflower sea + early-tinged red leaves, rich color layers ✅ Late October–early November: Smoke trees turn completely red, mountains are crimson, peak red leaf scenery ▫️Clothing and gear: Large temperature difference between day and night in the mountains; bring a windbreaker and wear non-slip sneakers ▫️Transportation: Driving is the best option, about 1 hour from downtown Weifang; scenic sightseeing buses can take you directly to the mountainside, saving effort and protecting your knees ▫️Food after descending: Linqu whole lamb, coarse grain pancakes, and local wild vegetables—taste the authentic Yimeng flavors

Ancient Town of Qingzhou

It was great. I explored the Ouyuan Garden and the main street thoroughly, but didn't have time to visit the other alleys and attractions. The church wasn't open, but there were a few cultural and creative shops, and I bought quite a few things. Dong Ge's noodles were delicious; I ordered the pork intestine noodles, which were tasty and only 18 yuan, not expensive.

Mount Yimeng Tourism Area

The main peak, Jade Emperor Peak, is 1,031 meters above sea level, and the Baizhangya Waterfall has a drop of 65 meters. The mountains are covered with towering trees and flowing springs, and are known as the "top of the five towns". It is suitable for family outings and has fresh air. The artificial landscape "Green Wonderland" has artificial moss and flowers that look a bit out of place.

Yunmen Mountain Scenic Area

The mountain is not very high, with an altitude of just over 400 meters. However, there is not much scenery along the way, and the climb is a bit tiring. The scenery is only beautiful when you reach the character "寿" (longevity). At the top, the wind feels very comfortable.

Jiulongyu

It was a lot of fun! Aside from the cave being a bit of a letdown, we bought the full package for 198 yuan and went on the roller coaster, the glass bridge, and the rafting. There was a shuttle service to and from the bottom, and we also saw a circus. It was very convenient, and the kids were thrilled. It's a great place to bring children, and the price is very reasonable.

Shimenfang

I visited Shimenfang over the weekend and had a very pleasant experience overall, making it a great choice for an autumn outing in the suburbs. Entering and walking up the stone steps, the path isn't too steep, and the climb is leisurely. Along the way, you can see cliff carvings of various styles, their weathered marks adding a touch of history. Those who appreciate cultural artifacts can stop and take their time to appreciate them. In autumn, the most stunning sight is the mountainside ablaze with the vibrant red of the smoke trees, creating layers upon layers of crimson. Standing atop the mountain and looking out at the blue sky against the red leaves makes for incredibly photogenic photos. At the foot of the mountain, there's a persimmon grove, laden with bright yellow persimmons—a delightful sight. The only downside is that it gets quite crowded on weekends during peak season, and parking halfway up the mountain is inconvenient. I recommend visiting during off-peak times. The handmade persimmon cakes at the entrance of the scenic area are quite delicious; you could buy a couple of pounds as souvenirs. If you're looking for a place to relax and breathe fresh air, Shimenfang is definitely worth a visit.

Qingzhou Sleepless Town

There are fewer people on weekends. The Errenzhuan performance is good, which makes up for the fun of the city that never sleeps. The performance inside is not very attractive and is relatively short. I don’t know how it will be on weekends.

Jingtang Ancient Town

Strolling through the secluded ancient alleys, the old houses are well-preserved, and traces of time are everywhere. The local farm food is authentic, and the villagers are warm and friendly. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can immerse yourself in the slow life of the countryside and have a perfect experience.

Ouyuan Garden

Qingzhou, one of the Nine Provinces, has a long history. Although the city wall was built later, you can see a panoramic view of the ancient city from the top. In addition, the Imperial Examination Hall is very famous and produced more than 800 Jinshi (successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations).

Qilu Songshan Canyon Rafting

As we approached the rafting starting point at the foot of Mount Songshan, a refreshing mountain breeze blew across our faces, as if nature had already prepared a welcoming gift. Young people linked arms and screamed in anticipation, while families with children jumped and laughed. Their colorful life jackets stood out in the sunlight, like a group of "water explorers" about to embark on a journey. At the river entrance, rafting rangers in fluorescent green uniforms stood ready, their presence adding both excitement and peace of mind to this adventure.
