This summer, I joined 300 hiking enthusiasts from home and abroad to take part in the Fjallraven Classic global hiking event / 2026 US station heavy pack hike. It was my first hike, and I wasn’t sure what to bring. Luckily, I didn’t overpack. My luggage weighed 17 kg, which didn’t feel heavy at first, but later I realized that’s the full weight of my 28-inch suitcase. The hike lasted three days, plus the first day to reach the campsite, totaling four days. During these four days, there was no internet or charging available. We had to carry all our gear on our backs, including a tent, sleeping bag, inflatable pad, three days’ worth of food, water, basic toiletries, down jacket, short-sleeve shirts, pants, and five or six other clothing items. All the clothing and the tent were from Fjallraven. During the day, we wore short sleeves under the sun; at night, we put on down jackets to stay warm; and when it rained, we wore rain jackets and rain pants for protection. My pants were the “Li Xian style” Keb outdoor master pants, made with G-1000® fabric and a 3D cut. They are windproof and waterproof but more breathable than other rain pants. They’re suitable for hiking outdoors and also for everyday city wear. After three days of hiking, I never felt stuffy. One pair of pants worked for all occasions. We climbed from an altitude of 2,800 meters to the highest point at 3,600 meters, then hiked back down. Along the way, we passed lakes, crossed mountains, waded through streams, walked on challenging rocky paths, and crossed meadows and dirt pits. We experienced heavy rain and lightning as well as strong sun. We saw many animals like moose, rabbits, squirrels, and wild chickens. At night, we sealed our food and scented items in bear canisters to prevent bears from coming near our tents. At the campsite, we boiled water and prepared our own meals. We set up our own tents and lived without showers or hair washing—just brushing our teeth and wiping our faces with lake water. We had to carry all our trash with us until we reached the final campsite to dispose of it. This was a journey that cleansed both mind and body and taught me how to coexist with nature and put environmental protection into practice. When away from the noise of society, people tend to lower their desires. Simple food brings happiness, and simple things bring great joy—just like Fjallraven. By embracing long-term thinking, following our own pace, and walking with nature, we don’t need to compete for first place. We just need to walk at our own pace, enjoy the joy of hiking, appreciate the natural scenery, face the wind and rain, and feel the sunshine. This is what hiking means to me.

For many, Aspen belongs to winter. It’s known worldwide for its 5,700+ acres of ski slopes, a snow season lasting up to 6 months, stunning mountain scenery, and a vibrant ski culture. But when the snow melts, Aspen reveals another charming side—sunlight fills the valleys and wildflowers cover the hillsides! Hikers, cyclists, and vacationers return to the mountains to enjoy Colorado’s comfortable summer days. If this is your first summer trip to Aspen, the following five experiences are perfect ways to get to know this enchanting mountain town. 1. Share a whole valley of joy with your family From late June to late July each year, Aspen welcomes its most spectacular wildflower season. Take a scenic gondola ride up the mountain to see flowers blanketing the hills and the rolling peaks all around. Even a simple hike becomes a scenic journey. For kids, Camp Aspen Snowmass is a great chance to connect with nature, make friends, and build independence. Teens will enjoy fun and challenging activities like mountain biking and rock climbing. Parents may most enjoy strolling the trails together, sharing lunch at a mountaintop restaurant, or spending a relaxing summer afternoon at a live music event. 2. Encounter Colorado’s most iconic scenery—Maroon Bells If you’re recommending one must-see natural attraction near Aspen, Maroon Bells is always at the top. These two peaks, each over 14,000 feet high, rise majestically above a lake south of Aspen. They are considered one of Colorado’s most iconic natural landscapes. On clear summer days, the peaks reflect in the calm lake, surrounded by forests and meadows, like a natural painting. Whether you love photography, hiking, or simply taking in the view, it’s worth a special visit. 4. Savor Aspen’s food and culture Few mountain destinations blend natural beauty with food and culture as perfectly as Aspen. Though small in size, Aspen surprises with its vibrant culinary and artistic atmosphere. Local restaurants skillfully use fresh Colorado ingredients, balancing traditional flavors with modern creativity. Each summer, a variety of food events, music festivals, and cultural celebrations take place. The Food & Wine Classic in Aspen is one of North America’s most prestigious food and wine events. At the same time, art exhibitions, ballet performances, concerts, and boutique shopping offer a rich experience beyond the snowy peaks. 5. Give your body and mind a true rest Start your morning greeting the first sunlight atop the mountain with a yoga class, letting your body and breath gradually relax. In the afternoon, stroll along the Roaring Fork River, listen to the water flowing through the valley, and watch sunlight filter through the trees onto the path. Or find a quiet spot in the mountains to do nothing but enjoy the view. Aspen’s summer is not only full of energy but also knows how to help you slow down. This is the Fjallraven Classic Global Trekking 2026 US heavy-load backpacking event Together with Fjallraven, we backpacked 50 kilometers in the US. This was the second day of the trek. The entire day was overcast, everyone had a different pace, and I couldn't see anyone ahead or behind me. We ascended from an altitude of 2,800 meters to a peak of 3,600 meters, seeing lakes and mountains. I carried 34 jin of items, including a tent, sleeping bag, inflatable pad, three days of food, water, simple toiletries, a down jacket, a T-shirt, pants, and five or six other clothing items, as well as the trash I generated daily, and many other outdoor supplies. We weren't aiming to be first; everyone moved at their own pace and rhythm. We experienced heavy rain and lightning, as well as intense sun. We saw many animals like moose, rabbits, squirrels, and pheasants. At night, we sealed food and scented items in bear canisters to prevent bears from coming to our tents. For these three days, there was no signal and no place to charge devices. We were cut off from the world, and our happiness came from all the surprises the outdoors brought. We walked on gravel roads, through streams, across meadows, and over potholes. We were tired but happy. Along the way, we helped and encouraged 300 people from different countries. At the campsite, we boiled water to prepare food. We set up our own tents to sleep in, without showering or washing our hair, just brushing our teeth and simply splashing lake water on our faces. Perhaps it was a bit messy, but who cared? We were all like that. When people are away from the hustle and bustle of society, their desires always decrease. Simple food makes us happy, and simple things bring great joy. This is my understanding of the meaning of trekking, and it's also a truly eco-friendly journey.

From March to April, Aspen in the USA often enters a pleasantly surprising phase—the sunshine is more abundant, the days are longer, yet the mountains can still receive fresh rounds of snowfall. When the sky clears, enjoying a relaxing Après-Ski on a sunny terrace is a quintessential spring ritual unique to Aspen. Here are 5 great reasons to fall in love with Aspen’s prime spring ski season! 1. Longer Days, More Skiing Time With the arrival of spring, some lifts at Aspen’s four major ski mountains have extended operating hours, meaning more time on the slopes. As of now, the following lifts run until 4 PM: Snowmass: Village Express, Sheer Bliss, Elk Camp Gondola Aspen Mountain: Silver Queen Gondola, Ajax Express Aspen Highlands: Exhibition Buttermilk: Summit Express Additionally, with the start of Daylight Saving Time in March, the extra hour of sunshine in the mountains allows for even more skiing fun—ride the morning sun on Aspen Mountain, then head to Aspen Highlands’ Highland Bowl in the afternoon; or start early with a hike to the summit of Buttermilk for first tracks, followed by lunch at Sam’s or the Alpin Room in Snowmass. The official Aspen fan gift card can be used at these restaurants, many others across the four mountains, and at Four Mountain Sports for shopping! Beyond skiing, Aspen remains lively in spring: Snowmass offers tubing and the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, perfect for family fun; all four mountains open lifts for sightseeing, so even non-skiers can easily reach the peaks to enjoy the views, dining, and mountain parties; Snowmass’s Ullr Nights and bonfire marshmallow roasting keep the fun going all evening. 2. Comfortable Climate, Easier to Learn Skiing in Spring If you want your kids or family to try skiing for the first time, spring is undoubtedly a more relaxed and friendly choice. Compared to the cold and biting winds of deep winter, spring’s gentle sunshine and comfortable temperatures reduce psychological pressure. The soft snow, clear blue skies, and the diverse beginner and intermediate terrain across the four mountains make learning more natural and enjoyable. Aspen’s transportation is also convenient. The RFTA public bus connects the airport, Aspen city, Snowmass Village, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk, allowing easy travel between mountains and town without renting a car, and carrying ski gear is hassle-free. 3. Spring Après-Ski, More Fun and Excitement In March and April, Aspen’s “happiness index” noticeably rises. Take the Silver Queen Gondola to Aspen Mountain’s summit to experience the brand-new high-altitude outdoor Après-Ski venue—Eleven212. Moreover, Aspen Mountain’s Sundeck; Aspen Highlands’ Merry-Go-Round; Buttermilk’s Buttermilk Mountain Lodge; and five popular spots in Snowmass, including The Cabin, all feature live DJs, themed costumes, and sunset parties on the mountain tops! 4. Full Lineup of Spring Activities, Excitement On and Off the Mountain Spring in Aspen is not just about great snow conditions; the activities are equally abundant. Whether on the slopes or in town, exciting events abound. Buttermilk’s Cliffhouse hosts a weekly Friday Mountain Breakfast Club; Snowmass offers Ullrhof fun games and the Slash the Mass Banked Slalom mountain race; free concerts and more are all available. Whether you love challenges, enjoy interactive events, or simply want to soak up the lively mountain atmosphere, you’ll find your own rhythm here. 5. End-of-Season Discount Lift Tickets Make Spring Even More Worth Staying For There’s a rare spring surprise for skiing in Aspen: end-of-season discount lift tickets. From March 28 to April 19, 2026, when you book at least one night’s accommodation and two days of skiing through the official booking center Stay Aspen Snowmass, you can unlock special end-of-season lift tickets priced at $98/day for adults and $81/day for children, youth, and seniors. As the days grow longer on the mountain, prices become friendlier—don’t miss this exclusive “timing advantage” that belongs only to spring~ Spring in Aspen is a hidden golden season for skiing! Only 16% of the mountain was open, but it didn’t stop us from two extremely full days of enjoying new terrain. It was great not dealing with lines, crowds and the other inevitable parts of the busier parts of ski season. Will have to come back to hit the famous back bowls, but enjoyable nonetheless.
