It looks simple and plain on the outside, but inside hides a hall made entirely of golden phoebe wood with 1,318 carved dragons. The contrast between its frugal exterior and luxurious interior is incredible! 📍Location Inside the Western Qing Tombs Scenic Area, Yi County, Baoding City 🚇Transportation Driving is recommended, or take a bus from Beijing Liuliqiao Long-Distance Bus Station to Yi County Bus Station 🎫Tickets Western Qing Tombs pass: 108 yuan in peak season, 80 yuan in off-season Mu Mausoleum single ticket: 10 yuan ⏰Hours Peak season (April–October): 8:00 AM–5:30 PM, last entry at 5:00 PM Off-season (November–March): 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, last entry at 4:30 PM 📷Highlights 🗒️Mausoleum Gate It abandons the traditional three glazed gates in favor of a three-bay, four-pillar white marble archway. The entire hall features 1,096 carved phoebe wood dragons, totaling 1,318 when including the side halls—a true example of a frugal exterior hiding a luxurious interior. 🗒️Sacred Way Bridge The standard design is a three-path, three-arch bridge, but the Mu Mausoleum only retains one three-arch bridge, with flat bridges on the left and right sides. 🗒️Simplified Underground Palace Reduced from nine vaults and four doors to four vaults and two doors. The Daoguang Emperor was originally supposed to be buried in the Eastern Qing Tombs; after the mausoleum was built and the empress was buried, the underground palace leaked, forcing a reconstruction at the Western Qing Tombs. To prevent water damage, many "dragon whisker" drainage ditches were added, and there are also six drainage channels on the treasure mound. 🗒️Brickwork Walls The mausoleum walls use the "polished brick, seamless joint" technique, retaining the original color of the gray bricks. The Special Boutique Hall is a paid 💰 exhibition hall. Booking online one day in advance offers a 10 yuan discount; you can enter the park directly by scanning a code, which is very convenient. Enter from the East Gate and take the cable car up the mountain. There are three routes to choose from: the upper, middle, and lower routes. Depending on your physical condition, the middle route is the gentlest, following the cliffside walkway along the mountainside. The round trip takes about 3 hours. If there's fog, the mountain peaks appear and disappear, creating a unique charm.

I visited Bailixia during the National Day holiday, and it felt completely different from summer. We left Beijing in the morning and arrived in about two hours. I recommend not sleeping in; if you arrive around 7 am, there's still parking available, but by 9 or 10 am, the cars are lined up outside. The canyon in October already had a touch of autumn; the mountains were a mix of yellow and red, with steep, rocky cliffs on either side, making for beautiful photos from every angle. The key was the coolness. While the sun was blazing outside, a gentle breeze once you entered the valley was incredibly refreshing. It got a bit chilly after walking for a while, so bringing a light jacket was definitely a good idea. We entered through Haitangyu and exited through Shixuanxia. There were streams along the way, but the stone paths were a bit slippery, so wear non-slip shoes. The narrowest part of Yixiantian (One Line Sky) requires you to squeeze sideways to get through; it gets crowded during the National Day holiday, so don't stand there endlessly if you want to take photos. The Heavenly Ladder steps are quite strenuous, so I took the cable car up (50 yuan one way), which saved me the effort. There's a high-altitude bicycle show at the summit in the afternoon; if you happen to catch it, just take a quick look—it's quite thrilling. A leisurely stroll through the entire area takes three or four hours without getting tired. Things tend to be more expensive during holidays, so bring your own water and snacks. Anyway, if you're looking for a place that's not too sunny during the National Day holiday, where you can stroll around and enjoy autumn scenery, Bailixia is a good option, but you should go early.

Driving to Yi County, Baoding to visit the Western Qing Tombs was a truly unexpected and delightful experience! Compared to the Eastern Qing Tombs, it was much less crowded, and the entire area was surrounded by ancient pine trees, creating a tranquil and atmospheric ambiance. The Western Qing Tombs are the final resting place of four emperors: Yongzheng, Jiaqing, Daoguang, and Guangxu. The tombs are quite far apart, making a drive the most convenient option. Each tomb has parking available with a single payment. A few must-see spots: The Tai Mausoleum, Yongzheng's tomb, features three particularly grand stone archways and a long spirit path.

A truly worthwhile attraction! It's rare to find such complete Hui-style architecture in northern China. Even better, the exhibits are very professionally designed! There are many interactive exhibits inside the stage. I initially thought I could see everything in half an hour, but the area is so large that we ended up spending a full two hours there. There's a garden within the scenic area with beautifully landscaped vegetation! The children had a wonderful time playing in the garden.

The hotel room was spacious, located on the 20th floor with a great view. The breakfast was decent, offering both Chinese and Western options. Parking was convenient, and the security guard at the entrance was very responsible. The room had drip coffee, black tea, green tea, and four bottles of Nongfu Spring beverage. The latex pillows were the same as those at home, making for a very comfortable sleep. The central air conditioning kept the room warm. The blankets and bed were also very comfortable.

Baiyangdian truly lives up to its name as the Pearl of North China. Boating through the reed marshes is incredibly atmospheric, and in summer, the vast lotus ponds stretch as far as the eye can see, creating a breathtaking scene. The Lotus Grand View Garden offers a variety of lotus flowers, while the Gazi Village and the Wild Goose Team Memorial Hall in the Cultural Garden are educational and suitable for families with children. Boating on the water is a fantastic experience, and you can even spot water birds. Overall, it's a great short trip for those from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and I highly recommend visiting during the summer when the lotus flowers are in bloom for the best experience.
