The Shanxi Museum + Taiyuan Botanical Garden is a great destination for a family trip. The museum is not very big and is easy to navigate. You can rent a cart for the little ones, and the public facilities are very accommodating. It is recommended to take the elevator directly to the fourth floor and then explore each floor by descending. The museum's treasure, the Bird Zun, is on the second floor. There were quite a lot of people during the May Day holiday, which made it difficult to take good photos. The museum showcases exquisite architecture from all over Shanxi, which really deserves to be appreciated when it's less crowded. After leaving the museum, we went to a Shanxi-style restaurant to try some local dishes. Personally, I'm not a fan of kaolao lao, but the braised meat, sweet and sour fish, and other dishes were delicious. In the afternoon, we arrived at the botanical garden. The taxi ride was slow due to traffic, and the garden was packed with people. It was hard to stop and take photos because the crowd would push you forward. The tropical rainforest pavilion was truly spectacular, but the air quality suffered due to the crowds. Overall, it's worth a visit, and the experience would be even better with fewer people. I didn't make a reservation for the Shanxi Museum, so I went to the Taiyuan Museum instead. The area around the museum is the Fen River, and the night view is good. There is also a fountain square. Across the street is the Vientiane City for shopping. On the third day, I went to Taiyuan Ancient Town in the morning and Jinyang Lake in the afternoon.
