Malham Cove

Malham Cove is a sloping white limestone cliff in the north of England and is a popular spot in Yorkshire. The cliff is 70 meters high and famous in the minds of hikers and climbers who like to challenge heights. There are hundreds of uneven stone steps, and the green beauty of the Yorkshire Valley (Yorkshire Dales) is overlooked. The most famous place is the limestone trail on the cliff top, which is known as the "sidewalk" ("The Pavement") because of rough paving boards, which makes it easy to walk to the top.

This is the ancient town where I came to the UK to feel the best scenery and the most medieval British characteristics. There are large undulating lawns, clear rivers, ancient folk buildings, and flocks of cattle and sheep leisurely eating grass. It is a perfect British pastoral scenery, you must come. Don't miss it.

Malham Canyon is a huge mountain concave surrounded by stones, where there was once a suspicious and Niagara Falls. Godelli Canyon is a deep limestone Grand Canyon, suspiciously enjoying the waterfall beauty and historical traces left by the Iron Age.

Rocky tundra-filled canyon my wife and I took an hour and a half drive from Leeds to Malham Cove. It was a bright sunny autumn day. We parked in the village and walked easily to Baker Bay. We were already very close to the bottom and saw Baker's roots coming from the rock bottom. Impressive rock walls, can imagine ancient waterfalls of the past, hopefully returning with climate change! We decided to climb up 400 metres instead of walking down again. Glad we did it, I wasn’t a climber or afraid of heights, but I was able to handle the steps well. We climbed a few steps and stopped, taking a break from time to time on the side wall to enjoy the view. At the top, the limestone pavement is very interesting, and if you can control the balance you can cross the stone or drive up over the turf area, overlook the sidewalk and enjoy the view from a distance. Then we walked down the grass slope to the top of the mountain, on the other side of the stream to the burial mound, under the bridge, and there was an ice cream snack kiosk with chairs, which provided cold water, dried fruit and food. I persuaded my wife to walk one more side along the Godale scar (Gordale Scar) and see the waterfall. It was worth it and we found another path to the valley. If you are close to the waterfall, you will see a higher waterfall, what a magical place. Later we walked to Janet's Foss (Janet's Foss), a fairytale ghostly world of forests, moss, sunlight and streams. We were surprised to see several photographers in the pool under the waterfall. It would be a great place to sit and paint when quiet. Some rock fragments were scattered randomly on the road, and the last point of the walk was through the calf farm to the village. The village was our last stop and we could finally have a good night's sleep after eating. Tips: 1. Wear warm and wearable and comfortable shoes. 2. Prepare an umbrella, temperate marine climate to come rain at any time.
