Xingji, a senior monk of Nara era in Japan, was a monk of Nara Jing Pharmacist Temple at the age of 15, and had full precepts at the age of 24. In the era when Xingji lived, temples were only established for emperors and nobles. Buddhist beliefs were confined to the upper classes. Xingji vowed to practice the purpose of Buddhism "Purdue all living beings", to propagate Buddhist law to the ordinary people, and to set up almsgiving centers and orphanages to relieve the poor people. As a result, Xingji was well-known and deeply loved by the people. In 745, the court conferred the title of Xingji "Great Monk Zheng" and then the title of "Bodhisattva".

As a scenic spot, Xingji Bodhisattva Fountain has nothing special. The fountain itself is not spectacular. Only this Bodhisattva in the middle of the fountain is more interesting. This Bodhisattva named Xingji was actually a senior monk in Japan at first, because his Bodhisattva moved many people and was later called Bodhisattva by the Japanese. In order to commemorate his dedication in the 1970s, he set up such an image here and set off him with a constant fountain. Perhaps people can feel the constant purification of their souls in the washing of clean water.

“妙”就是微妙不可思议的意思，超越凡夫境界的那种奇妙的、不二的叫“妙”；“湛”，就是清净。妙湛总持，首楞严三昧讲妙湛总持——这个本觉之心。
