Xuankong Village
There are two suspended villages deep in Guancen Mountain, one is Wanghuagou and the other is Wuhuashan. The two villages are about 2.5 kilometers apart and are both built on cliffs hundreds of meters high. Most of these houses are built with stone and wood. A wooden plank road is the main street of the village. People walking on the plank road feel like they are in mid-air. Looking up from the bottom of the cliff, it looks like a castle in the sky. Most of the people in these mountains have small attics. Standing in the attic, you can see the endless greenery through the window and the sea of clouds through the door. Behind the village are towering mountains and in front of it is a deep ditch. Originally, you could only enter the village along the steep mountain road. Wannian Ice Cave

Malun Grassland
Malun Grassland is 2,721 meters above sea level and covers an area of more than 6,000 mu. It was formed during the Quaternary glacial period of the Cenozoic Era 750,000 years ago. The pasture here is fertile and it is the base for emperors of all dynasties to raise war horses. Malun Grassland is called the flower grassland hanging in the air by netizens. Jinci Temple Museum
Jinci Temple is located on the banks of the Jin River at the foot of Xuanweng Mountain, 25 km southwest of Taiyuan. It was built by later generations to commemorate Tang Shuyu, the founding feudal lord of the Jin State, and served as the ancestral temple of the Jin State. Eight wooden carved coiled dragons, appearing ready to fly, are carved on the eight corridor pillars in front of the hall, which, together with the "Flying Bridge Across Fish Pond," present a magnificent sight. Centered around the Hall of the Holy Mother, it's easy to find the "Three Wonders." The painted clay figurines are located inside the Hall of the Holy Mother, with the main statue of the Holy Mother seated majestically in a wooden shrine, dignified and resplendent, while the other 42 attendant statues stand on either side. These figurines are dressed in vibrant colors with varied expressions, including one maidservant dressed as a flower-dan (young female role in Chinese opera), her face half joyful and half sorrowful, evoking complex emotions in viewers. Master Mei Lanfang once stood before this maidservant statue for a long time, carefully studying her posture and inner emotions, and praised it highly. The Zhou Cypress, located north of the Hall of the Holy Mother, was planted during the Western Zhou Dynasty and is over 3,000 years old. The Pavilion of the Never-Aging Spring stands south of the Hall of the Holy Mother, where the source of the Jin River flows continuously year-round. Yingxian Wooden Pagoda
The full name of Yingxian Wooden Tower is Sakyamuni Pagoda of Fogong Temple. It is in the Fogong Temple in the northwest of Yingxian County. The octagonal wooden pagoda has five stories. Except for the high-end stone foundation of the first floor, the rest of the pagoda is made of wood using the traditional craftsmanship of Sunmao. Cliff Plank Road
Ningwu Cliff Plank Road was built between the cliffs of Xiangfeng Mountain, facing the vast forest. Its creation can be traced back to the Zhenyuan period of the Tang Dynasty. The plank road was originally built to connect temples on multiple peaks, and later it was built for tourists to visit. Go up the plank road from Xiaoshimen Village, pass the iron cable suspension bridge, Shimen Natural Moat, and see scenic spots such as hanging coffins, hanging temples, and Dragon King Temple. Pingyao Ancient City
Pingyao Ancient City is approx. 85 km from Taiyuan. The streets, shops, and residences within the ancient city still maintain their traditional layout and appearance, making it one of the best-preserved ancient cities in China. It is also the only ancient county town in China that has successfully been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as an entire city. Pingyao was once the financial center of China during the late Qing Dynasty. Walking through this once-prosperous ancient city, you can feel the essence of Shanxi merchant culture everywhere. Among the gates, the tower of the south gate (Yingxun Gate of Pingyao Ancient City wall) is exquisitely crafted, and this area is close to residential buildings, allowing visitors to observe the daily life of the locals. If time permits, you can walk around the ancient city along the wall to fully appreciate its charm, which takes about an hour. Watching the sunset from the wall in the evening presents a beautiful scene. Besides the ancient town itself, Pingyao has two other major attractions: Zhenguo Temple and Shuanglin Temple. Zhenguo Temple was built without a single nail, with all structures joined by interlocking wooden components. Shuanglin Temple houses over 10 halls containing exquisitely crafted painted sculptures dating from the Yuan to Ming dynasties. It is highly recommended to stay overnight in the ancient town to enjoy its night view. You can also rent a bicycle to explore the small alleys and experience the authentic Pingyao, where the local culture and customs or photography make excellent subjects. Especially during the Chinese New Year, Pingyao is full of festive atmosphere. The town features old courtyards converted into inns, which are usually affordable, with clean and tidy accommodations available for just a few dozen yuan. Additionally, Pingyao is renowned for its beef. In the late Qing Dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi passed through Pingyao and was so fond of the local beef after tasting it that she designated it as a royal tribute. Shops bearing the name "Guanyun beef" can be seen everywhere in the ancient town, making it hard to distinguish authenticity, and prices are generally high. I went on October 4th. It was already frosty in the morning and very cold. Wearing a down jacket wouldn't be excessive. After crossing the Malun Grassland, you can go to the summit of Luyashan Mountain, which is quite nice.

Heyeping, Wuzhai County, Shanxi Province, has beautiful autumn scenery along the way. The leaves are yellow. It is very beautiful to drive and stop. After reaching the top of the mountain, there is a parking fee of 10 yuan per car. There is a wooden plank road. It is very windy and cold. You should take a walk in summer.

The ice cave is only somewhat beautiful towards the end. The path leading out after the ice has been frozen is also lovely. Overall, it's not good value for money, really not good. A sightseeing bus is available for 10 yuan round trip.

The northern route of Luyashan Mountain includes Malun Grassland and Luyashan Mountain. There are two bus stops on the same road: the visitor center and Gaoqiaowa. The bus from the visitor center is 15 kilometers past Gaoqiaowa, and the ticket is 15 yuan more expensive. You need to transfer at Gaoqiaowa. After getting off the bus, it's a 30-minute hike to Malun Grassland. There are sedan chairs available, costing around 200 yuan. The grassland is all flat, and 2 hours is enough. The summit of Luyashan Mountain is opposite the grassland, and most people avoid it because they're afraid of the hike. Just visiting the grassland and the bus ride takes more than 5 hours.

I went with my parents to visit the site. We booked a two-hour guided tour, and our guide, Mr. Bai, was witty and humorous, narrating a thousand-year history in a captivating way. We also encountered the first heavy snowfall of the year, with snowflakes blanketing the ground – the scenery was breathtaking. Of course, the temperature dropped significantly, but Mr. Bai was very professional, never complaining, and continued to lead us on a lively tour. Highly recommended.

This is a very nice attraction. The ancient buildings are well-preserved. I recommend hiring a guide for a more in-depth understanding. A guided tour takes about 1.5 hours. The area is quite large, so you can explore at your own pace if you have time.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five-star review! The Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is breathtaking. This thousand-year-old pure wooden mortise and tenon structure from the Liao Dynasty was built without a single iron nail. The brackets are exquisite. It has stood majestically for a thousand years and is a gem of ancient architecture. It is a must-see for any road trip in Shanxi and is well worth a special trip!

This attraction was a pleasant surprise during our trip to Shanxi! Although the climb was very tiring and dangerous, the fun was incomparable, especially after reaching the plank road, where many places required drilling holes, and the children had a lot of fun. This place is not recommended for the elderly or people with poor legs and feet.

It's said that you can enter all 22 attractions. Many of the smaller attractions are quite similar, so if you have time, visit them all; if not, just focus on a few key ones. These include the Prefectural Government Office, Xie Tong Qing, Ri Sheng Chang, Ma Family Courtyard, and the City Gate Tower.
