Dawa Village

Dawa Village is hidden deep in the Taihang Mountains in She County, Hebei, surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing a river on the fourth. It is a stone village of more than 100 households, known as the Potala Palace of the Taihang Mountains. According to legend, during the Jiajing period of the Ming dynasty a family surnamed Zhang moved here and built houses from the local stone. Over generations the stone houses grew, one attached to the next, climbing halfway up the hillside, with courtyards and houses stacked and clustered in irregular tiers. Because Qingyang Mountain to the north links with Yanwa Cliff and Bijia Mountain to form the shape of a phoenix about to spread its wings, the village was once called Phoenix Nest. The cluster of stone houses stands beneath Confucius Peak, which resembles a statue of Confucius, and from afar the village looks like a cliffside stone fortress. Dawa Village's landmark is a single-arch stone bridge believed to be more than 500 years old, nicknamed the stone overpass. The entire bridge uses only stone, with no other materials. Pedestrians pass above while a stream flows beneath. A photograph of the bridge won a folk-category award at an international photography competition, and many photographers come specifically to capture it. Beyond the stone houses and stone paths, the village is dotted with old farming implements such as millstones, grinding stones, stone mortars, and stone troughs, as well as small stone temples dedicated to Guan Yu and the Dragon King. The Zhang ancestral hall and the former residence of a Qing dynasty county magistrate are tucked deep in the alleys, and wandering through them feels like visiting an open-air museum of Taihang dwellings. The stone houses are built into the hillside with thick walls, making them especially cool in midsummer. At dusk, smoke rises from household chimneys and meals carry the scent of mountain wood. At night the village lights come on, outlining the houses and the ancient bridge. Many visitors choose to see the stone architecture by day and enjoy the mountain village nightscape after dark. To appreciate the full scale of the stone-house cluster, stand below and look up or view it from a distance, only then can you truly see its layered, three-dimensional form.

The former site of the 129th Division Headquarters is located in Chi'an Village on the west side of Shexian County, Handan City. In 1940, the Eighth Route Army's 129th Division advanced into the Taihang Mountains and established the Shanxi-Hebei-Luyu Base Area. The hillside in the center of Chi'an Village was once the seat of the 129th Division Headquarters. . The scenic spot of the former headquarters is now divided into three parts: the headquarters, the General's Ridge and the 129th Division Exhibition Hall. The headquarters is composed of three adjacent farmhouse courtyards built on the mountain, and now the three farmhouses are all laid out as they were when they were commanded. The lower house is the place where the headquarters works, the main room of the north house is the conference room, the west house is the office, the east house is the guard room, and the south house is the office. The lilac and redbud trees in the courtyard are very beautiful. The middle courtyard is the residence and office, and the south house is the former residence of the chief. The East House is a two-story building, and there is also an air-raid shelter in the southeast corner of the courtyard. The showroom of the 129th Division is the upper house. It used to be the location of the war room. Now it displays pictures, sand tables, sculptures and many cultural relics of the year, recording the period from the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945. The older generation of revolutionaries led the soldiers of the 129th Division. The bloody Taihang revolutionary deeds reproduce the glorious history of the 129th Division in the Taihang Mountains. On the back of the General Mountain is the cemetery of the revolutionary martyrs. There are statues and monuments of the generals in the cemetery, and a memorial pavilion for the marshals has been built, where you can come to pay homage to the revolutionary predecessors.

The Nuwa Palace is magnificent, and the stone-carved scriptures are truly awe-inspiring. It's entirely walkable and not difficult; there's no need to take the shuttle bus or cable car. The activities in the park are quite entertaining, but the prizes are rather lackluster.

Aside from the crowds, there's nothing else wrong with it. It has a classic, old-fashioned feel, and the shops inside are bustling with activity – you can find everything you need for food, drinks, and entertainment. Some local specialties are worth buying. The overall planning of the scenic area is also good, blending traditional historical charm with modern flair. It's definitely worth a visit. My childhood dream of feeding the Monkey King came true! Hahahaha 😂

This is a newly opened guesthouse. It's clean and tidy, the mattresses are comfortable, it's nestled against Mount Kongzi, the owner is warm and attentive, the service is good, and there's free parking. I recommend this guesthouse to anyone.

Juxing Hall is an ancient building imitating the southern wooden structure. The building area is 1,000 square meters. The "Juxing Hall" in Chishuiwan Ancient Town has set the standard for ticket prices based on the market demand of the customer group. This includes early publicity and the creation of a fan circle during the operation period. In the initial stage of operation, the main customer group is the existing customer group (local customer group), supplemented by the incremental customer group (tourist customer group). The local customer group includes the customer group within the city of Handan and the 1-2 hour traffic circle around the project.

Although it is a square, it is actually just an open space, or a mountain gate. After entering, you can see the temple here. It is a temple built against the mountain. Overall, the style is quite Chinese.

On a sunny day, I came to the former site of the 129th Division Headquarters in Chi'an Village, She County, Handan with reverence. This was the command center of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army during the Anti-Japanese War, and witnessed the glorious journey of countless brave soldiers fighting for national liberation. Entering the old site, the first thing that comes into view is the quaint courtyard, which consists of three courtyards: upper, middle and lower. The lower courtyard is where the headquarters is located, the main room in the north is the meeting room, the west room is the war room, and the east room is the guard room. The two lilac and bauhinia trees in the courtyard were planted by Liu Bocheng, Deng Xiaoping and Li Da in 1941. Now they are lush and leafy, witnessing those difficult years. The middle courtyard is the residence and office of the leaders, and the south room is the former residence of Liu and Deng. The furnishings in the house are simple, but you can feel the hard work spirit of the older generation of revolutionaries. The upper house is an exhibition hall, which vividly displays the anti-Japanese war deeds of the 129th Division in the Taihang Mountains through pictures, real objects and sand tables. Walking out of the former headquarters site, we came to Jiangjunling, which is the cemetery of revolutionary martyrs, where some ashes of marshals such as Liu Bocheng and Xu Xiangqian are buried. Standing on Jiangjunling, overlooking the Taihang Mountains, my heart is full of respect. These revolutionary predecessors fought bloody battles for the liberation of the country and the happiness of the people, and their spirit will always inspire us. After visiting the former site of the 129th Division Headquarters, I was deeply touched. This is not only a red tourist attraction, but also a vivid patriotic education textbook. It makes me deeply realize that today's happy life is hard-won.

A very nice summer tourist destination, much cooler than other places, and the convenient transportation makes sightseeing less tiring. There's a long stretch of road leading to the scenic area that resembles a provincial highway, with very little traffic; I almost wondered if we were on the wrong road.

Having learned about the Red Flag Canal, I deeply admire the older generation who painstakingly carved and carried the canal by hand, much like a modern-day Yu Gong (a legendary figure who moved mountains), benefiting the local community. The scenery at the scenic area is rather ordinary; if you don't consider the historical significance of its manual construction, it feels somewhat unremarkable. Furthermore, the memorial hall and the Youth Cave are bundled together for sale, and the two attractions are quite far apart, with no shuttle bus provided. I suggest this place be designated as a patriotic education base and opened to the public free of charge.
