History background: Shaanxi History Museum is located in the northwest of the Dayan Pagoda in Xi'an. It is one of the landmark attractions of Xi'an. The museum was planned in 1983, started in the summer of 1986, and officially opened on June 20, 1991. It was named Shaanxi History Museum. In 2016, Shaanxi History Museum was selected as "China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" by the Chinese Cultural Relics Society and the Chinese Architectural Society. Museum Features: Shaanxi History Museum is a large modern museum, and its completion marks a new milestone in the development of China's museum industry. This museum is a Tang-style building complex with a "central hall and four corner towers". The main and secondary buildings are well-organized, the heights are staggered, and the momentum is solemn. It integrates national traditions, local characteristics and the spirit of the times. The museum covers an area of 65,000 square meters, and houses more than 380,000 cultural relics ranging from simple stone tools used in the initial stage of ancient humans to various artifacts in social life before 1840, covering a time span of more than one million years. The cultural relics are not only numerous and diverse, but also of high quality and wide value. The collections in the museum are dazzling and exquisite. It is an art hall that showcases the history and culture of Shaanxi and ancient Chinese civilization, and is known as the "Pearl of the Ancient Capital, the Treasure House of China." There are many treasures in the museum, including bronzes from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, pottery figurines from various dynasties, gold and silver utensils from the Han and Tang dynasties, and murals from Tang tombs. Most of them are treasures from the prosperous periods of the Han and Tang dynasties, and some of them are fine items that are prohibited from leaving the country. Collection treasures: There are three exhibition halls in the center of the museum. The first exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the prehistoric civilization of Lantian ape-man 1.15 million years ago to the Qin Dynasty; the second exhibition hall displays cultural relics from the Han Dynasty and the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties; and the third exhibition hall is mainly cultural relics from the prosperous Tang Dynasty. Each exhibition hall has its own treasure. There are special exhibition halls on the east and west sides of the central hall. On the west side, there is a "Special Exhibition of Tang Dynasty Treasures (Treasure Hall, Cultural Relics Unearthed in Hejiacun)", where many fine gold and silver wares from the heyday of the Tang Dynasty were transferred to be exhibited. On the east side, there is a "Treasures of Tang Dynasty Murals Exhibition", which exhibits a number of authentic Tang Dynasty tomb murals. The tripod The tripod is placed in the first exhibition hall at the entrance of the museum, and it can be said to be the treasure of the first exhibition hall. The replica is placed here, and the original is kept in the warehouse. Inscription on the outer wall: The inscription "All under heaven is the king's land; all the people are the king's subjects" reflects the land ownership system in the Western Zhou Dynasty. There are four lines of inscriptions with 28 characters on the inner wall of the Yi Ding. The general meaning is: In early August of a certain year, Wang Jiang took back the land originally given to Shi Lu and gave it to Yi, who then made this tripod to commemorate it. Queen's Seal: One of the treasures worth seeing in the second exhibition hall is the jade seal of the empress of the Han Dynasty, which is displayed separately. The seal is made of Xinjiang Hetian mutton-fat jade and is engraved with a Chihu, symbolizing royal power. Three-color camel figurines carrying music: This world-famous tri-color camel figurine carrying music is located in the third exhibition hall of Shaanxi History Museum. Its overall appearance and color are well preserved. There are seven men sitting on the camel's back, holding different musical instruments in their hands. Among them, the figurine holding the clapboard is listening attentively, as if intoxicated by the wonderful music. The woman in the middle is performing, and the camel opens its mouth wide and looks up to the sky, as if it is also singing with its master. Gold-inlaid animal head agate cup: This cultural relic, located in the special exhibition "Tang Dynasty Relics Special Exhibition", is one of the first 64 national treasures listed by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage that are never allowed to be exhibited abroad. There are also many other treasures such as black-glazed oil-drip bowls, green-glazed porcelain pots with handles, gilded silver bamboo-joint copper incense burners, gold bowls with mandarin duck and lotus petal patterns, and so on.China · Xi'an

Grand Tang Mall is a large-scale Tang-style architectural pedestrian street in Xi'an's Qujiang New District, built around the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. It stretches from the Xuanzang Square at the foot of the pagoda in the north to the Tang City Wall Ruins Park in the south, connected by a approx. 1500 m central axis view boulevard running north-south. The boulevard itself resembles an open-air sculpture gallery, featuring themed sculptures arranged sequentially from north to south: Buddhist culture of the Tang Dynasty, Tang heroes, the Zhenguan era governance, Empress Wu's procession, and the Kaiyuan heyday. Statues of eminent monks like Xuanzang and Jianzhen stand at the front, followed by Tang luminaries such as Li Bai, Wu Daozi, Sun Simiao, and Lu Yu in the middle section, with ceremonial processions of Emperor Taizong, Empress Wu Zetian, and Emperor Xuanzong concluding the display. Walking through this boulevard is akin to reading a three-dimensional history of the Tang Dynasty. The block connects three themed squares from north to south—Xuanzang square, Zhenguan square and Kaiyuan square—with Tang-style pavilions lining both sides. Among them are four cultural venues: Xi'an concert hall, Shaanxi grand theater, Xi'an art museum and Qujiang cinema. Enjoying concerts, visiting exhibitions and shopping for photos can all be arranged along the same route. By day, admire the architecture and sculptures, but the real highlight of this street comes after nightfall—when the lights come on, the Tang-style pavilions glow with radiant colors, and the entire street seems to recreate the splendor of the Tang Dynasty. The area features year-round immersive street performances: a "Tumbler Girl" in Tang attire leans in to hold hands with travelers as she spins; Fang Xuanling and Du Ruhui from the "Secret Box of the Tang Dynasty" appear, posing riddles and bantering, with clever answers from selected travelers drawing cheers from the crowd; Hu Xuan dances and Tang-era music performances compete in a colorful parade; and actors dressed as the "Poet Immortal" may challenge you to a verse duel at any moment—strolling around, you might stumble upon a performance. This place gathers trending attractions, highlighting dazzling colors, fantasy, and a tech vibe. Through large-scale installations, it creates a stylish and dynamic interactive experience center, offering a sought-after photo spot for trendy young crowds. In the family-friendly tech zone, scene-based displays and hands-on actions spark children's imagination and creativity, combining play with skill development and experiential gains—making it an ideal destination for family-friendly fun.China · Xi'an

Xi'an Museum is a modern comprehensive museum built upon the cultural relic protection site—the ruins of the Tang Dynasty Jianfu Temple and its iconic structure, the Small Wild Goose Pagoda. It integrates cultural relic collection and protection, academic research, exhibition and display, social education, and garden leisure. Its core area is the location of the original Tang Dynasty royal temple, Jianfu Temple, while the precious and striking historical relic existing within the temple—the Small Wild Goose Pagoda—has become the museum's unique landmark and soul. Therefore, the Jianfu Temple ruins and the Small Wild Goose Pagoda are not only the foundation and core carrier for the establishment of Xi'an Museum, but also important outdoor historical exhibition areas and focal points for visitors. The main building of the museum is located on the north side of the ancient temple ruins. The three elements (ancient temple ruins, ancient pagoda, and modern museum building) are organically integrated, jointly forming a unique cultural space that combines "museum, pagoda, temple, and garden," vividly showcasing the historical context of Xi'an from ancient times to the present. Xi'an Museum officially opened to the public on May 18, 2007. Its establishment aims to comprehensively showcase the glorious history and splendid culture of Xi'an (ancient Chang'an) as the capital of thirteen dynasties, filling the gap of a comprehensive museum of Xi'an's urban history. Collection highlights: The museum houses over 100,000 precious cultural relics from various historical periods of Xi'an. The collection spans from prehistoric times to the Ming and Qing dynasties, with particular emphasis on artifacts from the prosperous dynasties of Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang, including bronze ware, jade articles, gold and silverware, ceramics, murals, stone steles, epitaphs, and Buddhist statues, systematically reflecting the political, economic, cultural, social life, and foreign exchanges of the ancient capital Chang'an. Main exhibition: The permanent exhibition "Ancient capital Xi'an" takes the urban development history of Xi'an as the main thread, showcasing the evolution and achievements of Xi'an as a capital (Zhou Fenghao, Qin Xianyang, Han Chang'an, Sui-Tang Chang'an) and a prefectural city (Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties) through a large number of precious cultural relics, models, charts, and multimedia means. Unique environment: The museum's greatest feature lies in its surroundings. Travelers can not only visit modern exhibition halls but also stroll through the expansive heritage park encompassing the Small Wild Goose Pagoda, the ancient architectural complex of Jianfu Temple (including structures like the Ming dynasty bell tower housing a Jin dynasty ancient bell), an ancient stone sculpture art exhibition area, and garden views—experiencing the charm of the millennia-old capital at its historical site. The view of "morning bells at the Wild Goose Pagoda" is particularly renowned. Functional positioning: The museum is not only an important center for cultural relic collection, research, and display, but also an urban cultural park where citizens can relax, entertain, and immerse themselves in history and culture, undertaking significant social education and cultural exchange functions.China · Xi'an

Baota Mountain is located in the center of Yan'an city, by the side of the Yan River, and is named after the pagoda on the mountain. The pagoda was first built in the Tang Dynasty, and the existing structure is a pavilion-style brick pagoda rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty. The pagoda, together with the mountain, the Yan River, and the bridge, forms the city skyline of Yan'an and is also a symbol of the revolutionary holy land in people's hearts. The poet He Jingzhi wrote in "Returning to Yan'an" the famous line, "How many times in my dreams have I returned to Yan'an, embracing Baota Mountain with both hands," adding emotional weight to this mountain. The mountain is densely scattered with historical sites, including Song dynasty cliff carvings, Fan Gong Well, beacon towers, Star-gazing Tower, Jialing Academy, ancient city walls, and the former site of the Japanese Workers' and Peasants' School. Among them, the inscriptions "Jialing Mountain" in clerical script and "My chest harbors tens of thousands of armored soldiers" by Fan Zhongyan of the Northern Song dynasty have long been renowned. An iron bell cast in the Ming dynasty still hangs beside the pagoda, which was used for timekeeping and alarms during the CPC Central Committee's Yan'an period. Ascending the mountain path to Star-gazing Tower and beacon tower areas offers panoramic views of Yan'an city and the Yan River. After nightfall, the mountain and pagoda illuminate, and gazing back at the lit pagoda from near Yan River Bridge remains a favorite photo spot for many travelers.Yan'an · 92.2km from Luochuan

The Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs is the world's first museum dedicated to ancient tombs. The museum is divided into three main exhibition areas: the historical tombs section, the Northern Wei imperial mausoleums, and the Henan mural gallery. It houses dozens of ancient tomb chambers from various periods in Chinese history, all relocated from their original sites and restored in the underground exhibition area according to their original burial structures. Visitors can closely observe and gain a multi-perspective understanding of the internal environment of ancient tombs, including tomb architecture, unearthed artifacts, tomb murals, brick carvings, and other cultural relics. Historical burial area The historical burial area is located in the eastern part of the museum, divided into above-ground and underground sections, serving as a distinctive and visitor-attracting feature of the museum. The above-ground structure is a complex of Han-style replica buildings, featuring exhibition rooms such as "models of typical tombs from the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties" and "group sculptures depicting imperial funeral processions of the Han dynasty." The underground section houses 25 relocated and restored representative tombs from the Luoyang region, spanning from the Western Han to the Song and Jin dynasties, displaying approx. several hundred cultural relics along with a substantial quantity of murals. The various reconstructed tombs (chambers) in the underground section were all relocated as complete units. The bricks and stones in each tomb were numbered by archaeologists at the original site before being dismantled, then meticulously reassembled here to recreate their original appearance. The tomb chambers are spaced closely together, connected by passageways. You can walk through these corridors and move between chambers from different eras, each showcasing unique architectural styles that reflect an aspect of ancient Chinese architectural artistry. The tomb chambers also display numerous replicas of unearthed artifacts, such as pottery figurines and household utensils from the Northern Wei dynasty, as well as Tang dynasty tri-colored glazed pottery. The chambers further contain epitaphs from the Western Jin, Northern Wei, Tang, and Song dynasties, along with vibrant murals including scenes like exorcism rituals, a lady opening a door, and ascension to immortality—these are regarded as treasures of ancient painting art. Northern Wei imperial tombs Located in the western part of the Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs, this exhibition area features the "Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs - Jingling Mausoleum" of Emperor Xuanwu of the Northern Wei Dynasty as its centerpiece, along with the relocated and restored tombs of Prince Yuan Xun of Qinghe and Prince Yuan Cha of Jiangyang. The burial mound of the Luoyang Museum of Ancient Tombs - Jingling Mausoleum is circular, with a rammed earth pile over 20 m high. Visitors can walk down the passageway to the center of the burial chamber, where a coffin is placed, though it contains no items. The ceiling of Prince Yuan Xun's tomb is painted with an astronomical chart depicting over 300 stars. This chart, which predates the Dunhuang Star Atlas by approx. 400 years, is an invaluable material for studying ancient Chinese astronomy. Mural museum The Henan mural museum displays authentic tomb murals from multiple dynasties including the Western Han, Eastern Han, Wei-Jin, Tang-Song, and Jin-Yuan periods. These murals feature clear imagery and broad thematic content covering astronomy, geography, human affairs, and deities. The tomb owners range from emperors, concubines, and high-ranking officials to local petty officials and commoners.China · Luoyang

Seeking revenge for his father, he injured Second Master Zhang and fled to Qingfeng Stronghold, where he raised a band of outlaws to uphold justice and eliminate evil. Later, the tyrant, seeking to settle his grudge, hunted the young man under the guise of suppressing bandits and attempted to use his fiancée and family as leverage to lure Zhao Yunfeng out and eliminate his nemesis. Act two: [Tragedy in turbulent times] Zhao Yunfeng led his brothers to rescue his kidnapped fiancée and fled back to the stronghold. To eliminate Zhao Yunfeng and Qingfeng Stronghold once and for all, the security regiment gathered a large force to besiege the stronghold. Zhao Yunfeng and his strategist, Wang Banxian, engaged in fierce battles with the tyrant and the security regiment using the terrain to their advantage. Unfortunately, he was hit by an artillery shell while saving his fiancée during the intense fighting and died. A new confrontation was about to unfold. Act three: [Grain heist at the station] With no hope of victory, the fiancée detonated the makeshift dam, flooding the bandit stronghold and the security regiment. At this moment, the young man's comrades arrived with Red Army reinforcements. With the floodwaters and the Red Army's assistance, they completely wiped out the security regiment, eradicated the scourge in the pass, and liberated the oppressed poor. A battle for grain is about to begin... Act four: [Marching north] After the flood, the mountain stronghold was in complete disarray. To protect the brothers of the stronghold, to honor Zhao Yunfeng's sacrifice, and to completely eradicate the security regiment, the Red Army joined forces with the stronghold members to attack the train station and seize the military provisions transported by the security regiment. The two sides engaged in a fierce battle for the provisions at the station. The Red Army and the stronghold brothers fought bravely, blowing up trains and shooting down planes, ultimately wiping out the security regiment. After joining the Red Army, the stronghold members marched north with the troops, eliminating local scourges along the way and sowing the seeds of revolution. A single spark can start a prairie fire. The monument erected on the stage is a tribute to this great army. The legend of camel bells show — An international calling card of Chinese culture The Huaxia Cultural Tourism Grand Theater is the landmark building of the entire Huaxia Tourist Xi'an Resort project. It features a massive ellipsoid design, measuring 142 m long, 128 m wide, and approximately 50 m high, with a capacity to accommodate 3,000 people for performances. The movable auditorium in the center of the theater is ingeniously designed; through a rotating and mobile grandstand, it transports the audience to the optimal viewing position, providing a brand-new audiovisual experience. On November 13, 2018, this innovative design won the TEA Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement, an honor in the themed entertainment industry often referred to as the "Oscar" of the field. On November 20, 2019, the "Legend of the Camel Bell" show won another major award—the IAAPA Brass Ring Award. Nominated alongside this performance were "The Lion King" from Disneyland Paris and "Oh! Summer Banzai!" from Tokyo Disneyland. Amidst the competition with Disney, the "Legend of the Camel Bell" stood out and ultimately claimed the crown! The "Tuo Ling Legend" show has become an outstanding representative of China on the world performance stage, serving as a brilliant hallmark of high standards in art and science within the global entertainment industry. This "mobile live-action performance" was masterminded by Xia Chunting, chairman of Huaxia Cultural Tourism Group, who also served as the chief planner, scriptwriter, and director. During its creation, the performance centered on the "Belt and Road" as its core theme, deeply exploring the traditional culture of the Tang Dynasty and tracing the footsteps of camel caravans along the Silk Road, using positive energy to showcase Xi'an's glorious historical and cultural heritage. The entire performance is divided into seven chapters: prologue "Recalling the past," "Farewell for a thousand miles," "Peril on the wolf's path," "Exotic customs," "Cleansing rain," "Welcoming the return," and "Golden age of Huaxia." Adhering to the principle of being "visually stunning, musically captivating, and entertaining," it aims to create a performance that appeals to the general public, combining refined and popular tastes, and delivering a satisfying experience for all. The plot design begins with a newlywed couple reluctantly parting ways, depicting a westward-bound camel caravan encountering natural perils such as volcanoes, avalanches, sandstorms, and deserts, along with sudden wolf attacks, narrowly escaping death. Later, on the return journey laden with goods, they make a wish at Bamyan and coincidentally witness holy water descending from the sky, safely returning to Chang'an amid their loved ones' anticipation. The performance is interspersed with vivid depictions of exotic customs and landscapes, delivering a thrilling, breathtaking, beautiful, and joyous audiovisual experience that captivates the audience. The "Tuo Ling Legend" show utilizes 47 patented technologies and features spectacular performances including 20 camels and 30 wolves, leading the audience to experience the vastness of the desert, listen to the distant camel bells on the Silk Road, savor exotic customs, witness the glorious Tang Dynasty, and feel the millennium-old echoes of Huaxia. There were so many people, and the queues were incredibly long and even turned corners 🤦, but that didn't stop us from getting into the museum. Special thanks to guide Zhang Xiaojing! She was meticulous, patient, and possessed solid professional skills and rigorous knowledge; she helped visitors understand the connections between the bronzes, terracotta figures, and other national treasures, and told the stories behind the artifacts in a vivid and easy-to-understand way. The entire visit was a great experience and deserves high praise.

Located in the bustling city center, the hotel is conveniently situated for shopping, dining, and entertainment – highly recommended! The price is reasonable for the city, and the accommodation environment and cleanliness are much better than other budget hotels in the same price range. The service is professional and commendable. Excellent location with convenient transportation; the subway station is just a few minutes' walk away. The hotel facilities are complete, the rooms are clean and tidy, and the stay was very comfortable. The front desk staff are very helpful, proactive, and welcoming. The breakfast is good with a wide variety of options; I personally think it offers great value for money. 666

Because we had children with us, we opted to take the sightseeing bus up and down, which was very relaxing. We got a close look at the pagoda, took photos, and learned about its history, especially the plaques at the north and south gates: "Soaring high above the heavens, overlooking the mortal world"—for over 1000 years, the pagoda has achieved this.

Teacher Meng's explanations were exceptionally good, making the visit very rewarding. However, the children in the group were extremely noisy, rolling around on the ground, and despite Teacher Meng's repeated reminders, it was no use. The parents also ignored it, which was quite frustrating. Kudos to Teacher Meng again; she is incredibly dedicated!

Add this to your itinerary if you're visting Xi'an! I have been to the quarter 3 times. Walk along the main path of the quarter BUT make sure you also walk down the narrow alleyways! There are LOTS of shops and food stalls you don't want to miss. Open 24/7 too so make sure you visit!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five-star review! Highly recommend Ms. Yanzi from the Qin and Han Dynasty Hall of the Shaanxi History Museum! Ms. Yanzi's explanations are professional and solid, and her presentation is vivid and engaging. Our group wasn't a premium small group tour, but the quality of the explanations far exceeded my expectations. Compared to several premium small group tours I've attended before, it was just as good, and much more affordable. My daughter is particularly fascinated by Qin Dynasty history and listened attentively throughout the entire tour, especially enjoying Ms. Yanzi's explanations. Following Ms. Yanzi through the Qin and Han Dynasty Hall, she clearly explained the stories behind the Qin and Han artifacts, making the whole experience incredibly enjoyable and well worth it!

From a historical perspective, both Yangjialing and Zaoyuan were important locations for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) during the Yan'an period, carrying profound historical memories. However, they differ in details. Yangjialing is renowned as the cradle of revolutionary spirit and a witness to many important historical events; while Zaoyuan is known for its garden-like environment and its status as an important base for national revolutionary tradition education. Furthermore, Yangjialing and Zaoyuan differed in the location of their administrative offices and the revolutionary tasks they undertook. Yangjialing was the former site of all the CPC Central Committee's administrative offices, undertaking the important tasks of commanding the anti-Japanese war and the War of Liberation behind enemy lines, leading the Great Production Movement and the Rectification Movement; while Zaoyuan was the former site where the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee moved from Yangjialing, primarily undertaking tasks such as leading the entire Party in the Rectification Movement and the Great Production Movement in the liberated areas, and preparing for the Seventh National Congress of the CPC.
