The Haizhu Tram Line 1 (Tram Haizhu Line 1, THZ1) is the first modern tram line to begin operation in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. It officially commenced trial operations on December 31, 2014. The line is located within Haizhu District of Guangzhou, running primarily east-west, with a fresh green color as its identifier.
The route starts at Wanshengwei Station in Haizhu District, passing by Pazhou Pagoda, South Pazhou Bridge, East Convention Center, Central Convention Center, West Convention Center, Nanfeng, Party Pier, South Liede Bridge, and Canton Tower Station.
The Haizhu Tram Line 1 sightseeing demonstration section spans approximately 7 km. This route not only serves as a vital part of urban transportation, alleviating traffic pressure in Haizhu District, but also provides diverse travel options for residents and visitors. Additionally, it connects numerous scenic spots along both banks of the Pearl River, making it a unique scenic highlight of Guangzhou.
Attractions along the route
- Wanshengwei Station: After exiting the station, you can visit the Guangzhou Subway Museum, which has exhibition areas spread across four floors. The basement level showcases Guangzhou's geological conditions and subway construction process; the second floor features subway operation safety experiences; the third floor displays Guangzhou Metro's corporate image. Access is available from floors B1 to 3 of Tower C's podium at Wansheng Plaza, located south of Exit A of Wanshengwei Station. Nearby, you'll also find Pazhou Zheng Clan Ancestral Hall—though rebuilt by descendants, it retains the Lingnan architectural characteristics of gray-brick walls, tiled roofs, and intricate carvings of dragons and phoenixes.
- Pazhou Pagoda Station: Exit the station to reach Pazhou Pagoda, also known as Hai'ao Pagoda, built in 1599 during the Ming Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty's "Single Port Trade" period, it was called "Whampoa Pagoda" by foreign merchants. In June 1989, it was designated as a protected cultural heritage site in Guangdong Province. The pagoda features an octagonal well-style interior with 9 visible floors and hidden layers, totaling 17 stories and standing over 50 meters tall. At its base lies Guangzhou Water Culture Park, an open-themed park centered on Lingnan water heritage, integrating water science exhibits, cultural education, urban water management demonstrations, modern eco-tourism, and research exchange. The park's green spaces and squares are free for visitors daily, while themed exhibitions accept group reservations Monday to Friday and offer free public access on weekends.
- Pazhou Bridge South Station: Near this station, you can visit Pazhou Bridge to enjoy river views. In the evening, standing on the bridge or by the riverbank, you'll witness stunning sunsets with colorful skies, gentle ripples on the water, and a refreshing breeze. As night falls, the illuminated riverbanks create a particularly relaxing atmosphere.
- **Liede Bridge South Station:** The Liede Bridge merchandise this station is a popular spot for watching the sunset. Standing on the bridge at dusk offers a breathtaking view of the romantic sunset, and you can also capture the scenery with the Canton Tower, the Pearl River, and Haixinsha Island in the frame. In addition, the nearby riverside park boasts large green lawns and offers clear views of the Canton Tower and Liede Bridge. The nearby Pearl River Beer Culture and Creative Art Zone is also worth a visit, filled with an artistic atmosphere.
- Nanfeng Station - West Convention & Exhibition - Convention & Exhibition Center - East Convention & Exhibition Station: These stations are located near the Canton Fair Complex and Convention & Exhibition Park. The park offers a beautiful environment ideal for leisure walks, while the Canton Fair Complex has hosted countless business exchange events, with its distinctive architectural style worth admiring. Near East Convention & Exhibition Station, there's also a skate park providing activity space for skateboarding enthusiasts.
- Party Pier Station: This is the perfect spot to photograph Guangzhou Tower and Zhujiang New Town. As night falls and the lights illuminate the city, a riverside stroll at Party Pier lets you experience Guangzhou's vibrant energy and captivating charm.
Passenger Usage Guide
Ticket redemption time and location: From 09:30–18:00, passengers must present the booking QR code at the entrance of the Tram Guangzhou Tower Station or Wanshengwei Station to redeem a physical souvenir ticket from the staff. Please note that purchase records or payment records cannot be used as boarding passes; you must redeem a physical souvenir ticket before boarding.
