Kai Kung Leng Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Detailed guide to Kai Kung Leng in Hong Kong
Transportation:
The most convenient way to get to Hong Kong from Shenzhen is to take the high-speed train or take the subway directly to Tuen Mun Station or Tai Wo Station on the same day.
From Tuen Mun Station or Tai Wo Station, you can take bus route 75K or 307 to Kai Kung Leng Bus Terminus.
Travel suggestions:
Start early, the bus ride in the morning takes about 30-45 minutes. After getting off the bus, it takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the peak.
Stop along the way to enjoy the scenery, and walk carefully on the hiking trail.
You can bring drinking water and snacks for replenishment.
There will be more people on the later buses when going down the mountain, and the traffic will be more crowded during the rush hour.
Other precautions:
The mountain may be closed in bad weather (strong wind or heavy rain), please pay attention to the forecast.
Wear a safety helmet up and down the mountain, the road conditions are steep, be careful.
Leave enough time for photos at the Kai Kung Leng viewing platform.
I hope these suggestions can help you! Have fun at Kai Kung Leng.

Trekking through the Wilderness: Exploring Kuk Po Keng and Embracing the Perfect Blend of Nature and City
Kuk Po Keng, known as the 'Wugong Mountain of Hong Kong', features vast alpine meadows that, along with the suburban Hong Kong and Shenzhen city SKYLINE, offer stunning views. There is mobile signal throughout the journey, and the hiking difficulty is not too high, making it less stressful for beginners.
Route: Futian Port - Yuen Long - Fung Kat Heung Road Entrance - Kuk Po Keng Yuen Long Section - Kuk Po Keng Sheung Shui Section - Sheung Shui - Luohu Port.
Note: I didn't follow the recommended route from Futian Port directly to the mountain. Instead, I went to Yuen Long market to eat and replenish before taking an Uber to the Fung Kat Heung trailhead.
Duration: 11:30-18:15, the whole hiking journey took about seven hours.
Tips:
1. There's a lot of grass, and the mountain grass is sharp, so protect your legs from being scratched by the leaves.
2. Protect yourself from mosquitoes and insects, and be cautious around grass piles as there may be snakes and other creatures.
3. Bring enough water, but as there are no trash bins on the mountain, please take your water bottles and trash with you.
4. Be sure to apply sunscreen, even if it feels cooler on the mountain. I applied sunscreen once but still got sunburned.
5. The descent towards Sheung Shui and Fanling is not easy, and the interval between 77K buses is quite long after coming down the mountain.
6. After descending, minibuses only accept cash, so remember to exchange for Hong Kong dollars.
7. The highest altitude is 574 meters, with an ascent of about 500 meters.

Tai Tong Organic EcoPark Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
I’ve been reading complaints on Tai Tong Organic Ecopark. Many thought it’s expensive, charging for parking space, environment is unpleasant and rides not available. Well, let me share how my kids and a couple of their friends, spent more than 4 hours at the park with $300 (for 2 adults and 4 kids).
Our kids are happy to see the animals (ostrich, emu, pigs, peafowls, goats, turkeys) and feeding the fishes (mostly koi fish, occasionally the black swan) at the pond. We didn’t spend any $$ on feeding the fish / black swan/ goats. Why?
1. Our kids pick up the pellets from the ground (where everyone else didn’t bother to pick them up after spilling it), they gather the food pellets and feed the fishes.
2. The pick the leaves from unwanted branches (those that’s sawed down and left aside) to feed the goats.
You’d be surprise how much fish food they’ve picked and feed. They spent an hour or 2 picking and feeding. Although it’s harder to pick leaves for the goats, they’d satisfied to be able to pat the kid (fun fact, baby goat is called “kid”).
The full set of adventurous rope climbing equipment is kid’s favourite too. Featuring climbing wall, walkways, scramble nets etc. It’s perfect for them to fully stretch and practice their coordination, balance and agility.
Last but not least, we never miss the standard playground which is located right next to the pony ride. I do wonder why our kids never request for the pony ride though. They do notice the ride, I saw them standing and looking. But then, they turn around and walk away. They rather run around, climbing up and down, chasing each other or playing hide and seek, than queue for the pony ride.
So, this 3-4 areas (fish, goat, rope climbing and playground) are all we went, for over 4 hours, each of us pay an entrance fees of $50. And grab a cab out for about $60(one way) . There’s parking space and cubicle toilets right at the entrance.
For carpark, it’s $20/hour or $80/day. Pretty reasonable I would say.
