Crouching Tiger-Tiger Hill and Yunyan Pagoda
Tiger Hill is an absolutely stunning location. With beautiful gardens and hours of walking paths, this is an ideal location for taking beautiful photos and enjoying the serene environment.
History of Tiger Hill: It is said that three days after King He Lu died in 496BC a white tiger appeared on the hill to guard the dead king’s body. Another reason for the name comes from the mountain resembling a crouching tiger. Tiger Hill originally called the “Hill Emerging from the Sea” has an elevation of over 30m and covers roughly 3.5acres. Tiger Hill is truly an enduring symbol of ancient Suzhou and has
What can you see at Tiger Hill:
Tiger Hill Pagoda/Yunyan Pagoda: Known as the leaning tower this imposing 47m pagoda is indeed a site to behold. The top and the bottom of the tower today now vary by 2.32 metres. Construction on the pagoda was completed in 961 during the Song Dynasty. After climbing to the top of Tiger Hill it is indeed an amazing site to behold.
Wangjing Villa: A beautiful bonsai tree garden with some 500 high-end bonsai trees, many of which were awarded prizes in prestigious bonsai competitions.
LuYu Well: Lu Yu wrote the first book on tea entitled “The Treatise of Tea”. The famous author lived on Tiger Hill and dug a well and declared the water the third best in China. As a result of his efforts tea growing and consumption became an important part of peoples life’s in Suzhou.
Sword Pool: Legend says that some 3000 swords were buried beneath the rectangular pond and that King He Lu himself is said to be buried next to the lake wall.
These are only a few of the many things you can do at Tiger Hill! My personal favourite however was at the entrance of the Hill there was a small shop renting Chinese traditional clothing which you could were around the hill. I did so with sheer delight! I highly recommend this place to anyone planning to visit Suzhou!

Nice hill to explore nature in Suzhou
Getting There - Take bus 32/146 or line 3 to Huqiu Beimen Station
There are many attractions in Tiger Hill, depending on what you want to explore.
🛕The famous Tiger Hill Pagoda - standing on the hill’s summit. This is the oldest pagoda in the vicinity of Suzhou. It’s considered as China’s Leaning tower as the tower stands slantedly. This tower has been a symbol of Suzhou for years.
We enjoyed walkinf around this area, admiring the Chinese garden landscape. There is a bonsai collection at Wanjing Villa too.
There’s a famous Sword Testing Stone with its interesting story surrounding King He Lu. It’s believed that there are many swords burried beneath the Sword Pond.
With its beautiful scenery and long history, Tiger Hill is commonly referred to as the "No.1" attraction of the Wuzhong district. Tiger Hill is renowned for its pagoda and its Sword Pond. The pagoda is known as the "Leaning Tower of Pisa" of the east, and the four Chinese characters by the sword pool are said to have been written by calligrapher Yan Zhenqing. In recent years, flower and temple fairs have been held at Tiger Hill.
The Huqiu Mountain Scenic Area has a long history of more than 2,500 years. It is known as the “first mountain in Wuzhong”. The poet Su Dongpo of the Song Dynasty once wrote the famous saying “When you don’t visit Huqiu Mountain in Suzhou, it’s a pity!” Tiger Hill, in Suzhou, is not only a scenic spot, but also a cultural landmark of the city. Tiger Hill is not very high, so it is not particularly tiring to go up. Denghuqiu mountain is not high. It is sometimes lively, sometimes quiet, with lush branches that are accompanied by the sound of flowing water.
There are a lot of previous historical stories about the place, and you can ask any of the guides to tell you about them. There is a small square on the top of Huqiu, and there is a Tiger Hill Tower in the middle. It is the first leaning tower in China and the symbol of Suzhou. I didn't know it was oblique at the time. I wanted my picture to look symmetrical, but I found that it was not possible. Later, I realized that the tower was a little tilted.
Beautiful experience in suzhou in tiger hill attraction #suzhou
No longer entangled with Hangzhou, the back hill of Tiger Hill is also a green wonderland and tea garden in Suzhou
No longer entangled with Hangzhou, the back hill of Tiger Hill is also a green wonderland and tea garden in Suzhou.
Tiger Hill Scenic Spot - North Gate 70
Visiting time: Enter before 4:30 pm (ticket sales stop at 4:30 pm), you can really experience a private venue
It's my first time coming in from the back hill to play. Tiger Hill has always been said, 'Not visiting Tiger Hill when in Suzhou is a regret,' so not exploring the back hill of Tiger Hill is also a particularly regrettable thing especially you must find a cloudy day in spring~ It will be particularly green, like Huo Jianqi's movies
Hangzhou's West Lake mountains can't roll anymore, Tiger Hill is also very nice, and there are really few people.
After entering from the North Gate, row a boat, visit Little Wudang, turn right to the tea mountain, bamboo forest, stream, and then a few steps up the hill. I went around to the front hill and glanced at the deserted Sword Pond and Thousand People Rock, it's really cool and refreshing when there's no one.

Unlock the secrets of Suzhou's Tiger Hill on Qingming Festival, and explore the mystery of its 2500-year-old charm
Dear friends, instead of staying at home during the Qingming holiday, I chose to head to Suzhou to seek out the legendary "Number One Scenic Spot in Wu"—Tiger Hill Scenic Area!🌄
👣【Dawn Departure】
I got up early in the morning, taking advantage of the spring dawn, I went straight to Tiger Hill. There were already quite a few tourists at the entrance of the scenic area, but the tranquility of the morning mixed with the warm sunshine made for a pleasant mood. Remember to set off early to avoid the peak of the crowd!⏰
🌳【Ancient Trees Reaching the Sky】
Upon entering the scenic area, I was stunned by the ancient trees that have witnessed a thousand years of history. Walking among them, it's as if you can hear them telling the story of King Fuchai of Wu.🌱
📸【Beneath the Tiger Hill Pagoda】
Of course, you can't miss the iconic building—Tiger Hill Pagoda. It stands tall on the top of the hill, weathered by wind and rain, yet still proud. Taking photos here, you can feel the beauty of the "Nine Suitabilities" as described by the ancients, each moment is a beautiful painting.🖼️
🚶♀️【Winding Paths Leading to Seclusion】
Climbing up the stone steps, the garden landscapes on both sides of the path are enchanting. With every step, there's a new view, and each turn brings a surprise, as if walking into a flowing landscape painting.🏞️
🍃【Spring Colors Fill the Garden】
In the prime of spring, peach and cherry blossoms are blooming in competition, and the air is filled with a light fragrance of flowers. Don't forget to take a deep breath and fill your heart with the scent of spring.🌸
If you're driving, a road trip is a good choice, convenient for stopping anytime to enjoy the scenery along the way.🚗 Alternatively, Suzhou's public transportation is also well-developed, and you can easily reach the destination by subway or bus.🚆
🍽️【Gourmet Break】
During the tour, don't forget to try the local snacks, such as Suzhou's desserts and Biluochun tea from the teahouses, letting your taste buds travel as well.🍵
🌅【Sunset】
At the end of the day, leave with the afterglow of the sunset, the silhouette of Tiger Hill becomes softer against the skyline. At that moment, I understood why the ancients would say, such a scene should exist only in heaven and not on earth.✨
Don't hesitate, come to Suzhou's Tiger Hill this Qingming holiday, and give yourself a cultural journey through time!💖
Remember to bring a good mood, and with this guide, start your wonderful journey to Suzhou's Tiger Hill! Have a pleasant trip!🎉
National 5AAAAA scenic spot in China 🗼
#chinatrip
Located approximately 5 km away from the Suzhou city centre, Tiger Hill has been recognised as National 5AAAAA scenic spot and renowned with its historical legendary and ancient building with over 2500 years old.
Tiger Hill pagoda is especially eye-catching in the area as the structure looks similar to the Pisa Tower in Italy. In fact, the pagoda that leaning on the hill is much more taller than Pisa Tower and in different season, there will different artistic flowers blossom every where making it an instagrammable place for everyone to take picture with.
Personally, I would recommend to spend at least 1-2 hours to stroll around. If you come in the early morning, there will be lesser crowds where you can enjoy the chill weather with tranquil environment.

The Tiger Hill clay figurine's exquisite sculpting technique is the ancient 3D printing!
Suzhou clay sculpture, commonly known as 'colored sculpture' or 'clay toy', is one of the four major clay sculptures in China, including playthings, molded figures, hand-molded opera characters, and silk-dressed clay figurines.
Since Tiger Hill produces fertile clay, the shops are all concentrated around the Shantang area of Tiger Hill, hence the name 'Tiger Hill clay figurines'.
In Suzhou clay sculpture, 'playthings' refer to clay toys, also known as 'earthly figures'. The 'plaything shops' that produce and sell opera clay figurines, such as 'Old Rongxing', 'Old Rongtai', 'Jinhecheng', 'Wangchunji' and others, were located outside the city near Tiger Hill Shantang in the late Qing Dynasty, while the most notable one inside the city was 'Shen Wanfeng Plaything Shop' next to the auspicious gate of Xuanmiao Temple's Leizun Hall.
The history of Suzhou clay sculpture can be traced back to the 'hair-cutting and tattooed' pottery figurines unearthed 6000 years ago, made of grey pottery. Yang Huizhi of the Tang Dynasty, hailed as the 'Master of Sculpture', created the sculpted Arhats on the walls of the Baosheng Temple in Luozhen, which might be his genuine sculptures.
During the Song Dynasty, a large number of daily-use ceramics, toy-making pottery molds, and crucibles for melting metals were unearthed at the Pingquanfang site, proving that this place was originally a concentration of teahouses, taverns, and various handicraft workshops. Chenghu, also known as Chenhu or Chen Lake, where puppet figures with strings were discovered underwater.
Tiger Hill's Flower Morning Festival invites everyone to enjoy the spring scenery~ Tiger Hill Flower Morning Festival
Strolling in the garden, the parade of the Flower God, the 'Peony' flower market, the ancient style sports meeting... The Tiger Hill Flower Morning Festival has arrived. Visit Tiger Hill to see the 'flower landscapes', appreciate the 'flower art', watch the 'flower market', and immerse yourself in a spring festival of flowers amidst the collision of traditional culture and romantic trends.
The spring of Tiger Hill is an ocean of flowers, with the February orchids spread all over the hills, the delicate cherry blossoms at the north gate, the begonias in Yixia Garden, the camellias beside Yanghejian, and the peach blossoms in Huashen Garden that are 'young and lovely, burning bright'... Each one looks around with grace, sketching the lines of the Tiger Hill Pagoda, forming a series of unique scenic views.
Tiger Hill
Visiting Suzhou without touring Tiger Hill is a regret. It is said that during the Spring and Autumn period, King Helu of Wu was buried here by his son, Fuchai. Three days after the burial, a white tiger appeared on it, hence the name Tiger Hill. Another saying is 'The hill looks like a crouching tiger, hence the name based on its shape.'
A Day Trip to Tiger Hill
Su Dongpo once said, 'Not visiting Tiger Hill when in Suzhou is a regrettable matter!' To avoid any regrets, I decided to visit Tiger Hill today.
Tiger Hill is most famous for its Yunyan Temple Pagoda, China's first leaning tower and a symbol of ancient Suzhou. It is also the only remaining architecture from the Five Dynasties period. The tower is 47.5 meters tall, with the top deviating 2.3 meters from the center, earning it the nickname 'The Leaning Tower of the East.' Standing in front of the tower, one can feel a sense of ancient beauty.
Every scenic spot in Tiger Hill makes you want to linger and forget to return. There's the magical Broken Beam Hall, which has its ridgepole joined from two segments, the simple and honest Huanhuan Spring, also known as the Haiyong Spring, and ancient relics such as the Pillow Stone, Sword Testing Stone, and the True Mother's Tomb. The center of Tiger Hill is the Thousand People Stone, and there is also the Sword Pool. From above, the pool looks like a flat-laid sword. There's also the Yongcui Villa, Two Immortals Pavilion, West Creek Surrounded by Greenery, and Wan Jing Villa, which are all filled with exquisite Suzhou-style bonsai, very beautiful. After touring Tiger Hill, there are no regrets.
My first visit to Tiger Hill
Tiger Hill Scenic Area is one of the famous attractions in Suzhou City, a national 5A-level tourist spot. The Yunyan Temple Pagoda within the scenic area, as part of the Grand Canal, is listed in the 'World Heritage List', boasting a history of over 2500 years.
Tiger Hill is also known as Haiyong Hill, with an actual elevation of only 34.3 meters. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the Minister over the Masses Wang Xun and his brother, the Minister of Works Wang Min, built villas on both sides of the Sword Pond. Later, they donated their residences to build the Tiger Hill Temple, which was constructed along the hillside, with the feature of 'the temple concealing the hill' being one of its major characteristics.
The Tiger Hill Pagoda in the scenic area was built in the sixth year of Xiande of the Later Zhou Dynasty during the Five Dynasties (959 AD) and was completed in the second year of Jianlong of the Song Dynasty, the year of Xin You (961 AD), and has a history of over a thousand years. This pagoda has seven stories and eight sides, with a height of 47.7 meters. It leans towards the northeast by northeast direction, with its top deviating from the center by 2.34 meters, and the maximum inclination angle is 3 degrees and 59 minutes. The Tiger Hill Pagoda is also known as the 'Leaning Tower of China' and the 'World's Second Leaning Tower'. It is the earliest existing pagoda in the south of the Yangtze River, with a grand scale and exquisite structure. Many calligraphic stone inscriptions left by kings and literati throughout history can be found here. The four large characters 'Tiger Hill Sword Pond' beside the round hole gate were originally written by Yan Zhenqing, the only son of the great Tang Dynasty calligrapher. Another inscription 'Wind Ravine Cloud Spring' inside the round hole is said to be written by Mi Fu, one of the four great calligraphers of the Song Dynasty. On the left cliff, the seal characters 'Sword Pond' are said to be written by the great calligrapher Wang Xizhi. The entire scenic area covers an area of 72.8 hectares, with a core scenic area of 15.97 hectares. The main attractions include Sword Pond, Tiger Hill Pagoda, True Lady's Tomb, Broken Beam Hall, Yongcui Villa, Simple Spring, Sword Testing Stone, Two Immortals Pavilion, Thousand People Stone, West Creek Ring Cui, and Wan Jing Villa, etc. Interested friends can take their time to appreciate and experience it, and will surely benefit greatly.
Suzhou•Tiger Hill
💠 Tiger Hill, the dazzling pearl of Suzhou! Many people visit the gardens of Suzhou but overlook this 'Number One Mountain in Wu'. Although its altitude is only 34.3 meters, it has a long history of over 2500 years, attracting numerous tourists from the time of King Helü of Wu during the Spring and Autumn period to the present.
🔹 The Yunyan Temple Pagoda (Tiger Hill Pagoda) is the essence of the scenic area. Due to uneven settlement of the foundation, the top of the pagoda has gradually become off-center by 2.34 meters, making it known as China's Number One Leaning Tower.
🔹 Like many gardens in Suzhou, Tiger Hill is not large, but its ingenious design makes it feel much bigger, surprising visitors with how much there is to do in such a small area.
🔹 There is no need to plan your route in advance when visiting Tiger Hill; it's quite small, and it's better to explore freely. Some of the more famous spots to check in include Yunyan Temple Pagoda, the Broken Beam Hall, the Hall of the Five Sages, the Myriad Scenery Garden, and the Bamboo Forest.
💰 Ticket price: Off-season 60, peak season 70, including round-trip bus ticket to Tiger Hill Wetland Park; purchase online in advance, free with a garden pass
🕒 Opening hours: May to October 7:30-18:00 (stop selling tickets at 17:00, stop checking tickets at 17:30); November to April 7:30-17:30 (stop selling tickets at 16:30, stop checking tickets at 17:00)
🚗 Self-driving: There are parking lots at both the south and north gates of the scenic area, with parking fees of 6 yuan for the first hour, then 2 yuan/0.5h thereafter
🛺 Electric sightseeing car: There are electric sightseeing cars in Tiger Hill scenic area that can take you to the top of the hill, but it is not recommended to ride them. The area is not large or high, and it is better to walk and explore different routes
🚤 Rowing boat: There are man-powered rowing boats on the river around the mountain, which can take you around the mountain for 160 yuan/boat (seats four), or half-way to the north gate for 100 yuan/boat
🛥️ Electric boat: Outside the south gate of the scenic area, there is the Li Hongzhang Pier where you can take an electric boat along Shantang River directly to the Seven-Mile Shantang scenic area at Bai Juyi Pier, 50 yuan/person
🧳 Luggage storage: Visitor Center (Haiyongfang) backpack 10 yuan/day, suitcase 20 yuan/day
✅ Best tour plan: Arrive at Tiger Hill at noon and play for 2 hours, then take the free bus to Tiger Hill Wetland Park for another 2 hours, take the bus back, and then take the electric boat to Seven-Mile Shantang, and stroll the streets in the evening
Tiger Hill
Suzhou's Tiger Hill, with a history of more than 2,500 years, is immortalized by the famous saying of Su Dongpo, a great literary figure of the Song Dynasty: 'Not visiting Tiger Hill when in Suzhou is a regrettable matter.' This has made Tiger Hill a must-visit destination for travelers to Suzhou. People coming from afar can see the pagoda standing on Tiger Hill from a distance, signifying that they have arrived in Suzhou, hence the saying 'First see the Tiger Hill Pagoda, then see the city of Suzhou.' Go with the flow and see the world

The combination of gardens and autumn scenery is a view that is hard to have in other parts of the world.

2️⃣ Humble Administrator's Garden
The beauty of the Humble Administrator's Garden is a few maple trees, and the sunset time when the flower window shines on the wall.
3️⃣ Shuangta Temple
There are two very large ginkgo trees here, which are very convenient near Pingjiang Road.
4️⃣ Taiping Zen Street
There are several super-large ginkgo trees here. When they are golden, the leaves fall on the small road and are covered with leaves at the most beautiful time.
5️⃣ Xiyuan Temple
There is a popular road here, and the ginkgo leaves fall all over the road. It's very beautiful when a master or a cat walks by.

City C is located in Tiger Hill, catching the tail of this autumn
People always say that autumn is better than spring morning, the most beautiful colors of nature, naturally can't miss checking in here.
🌟Highlights:
In the midst of autumn, come to Tiger Hill in Suzhou. Walking on this mountain road, breathing fresh air, looking at the colorful flowers on the roadside, it's very happy.
👍Most recommended:
No need to go to well-known attractions to squeeze people. Walk freely between the paths. Cute cats, distant red maples, and even every brick and tile, all seem to have their own stories.
You must have a good mood on weekends, and naturally you can't miss coming here to enjoy the mountains and waters.
I saw the real Suzhou at Tiger Hill during the National Day
Compared to the hustle and bustle of Shantang Street and Pingjiang Road, Tiger Hill is better. Although there are many people in Tiger Hill, there are mountains, water, and places, and the crowd density is still much smaller. The 'three excellences' refer to: this mountain is just a small hill, but when you climb it, there are steep peaks and cliffs, with a force like a thousand weights and clouds appearing and disappearing, which is the first excellence; the second excellence is the temple hidden in the green mountains; the sword pool is neither full nor empty; it has always been clear, which is the third excellence.
The 'nine appropriatenesses' refer to: appropriate for moon, snow, rain, smoke, spring dawn, summer coolness, autumn freshness, wood, and sunset.

Although it's been quite a while into winter❄️, the beauty of Suzhou's autumn is still imprinted in my mind, making me reminisce endlessly🧡
I want to say that Tiger Hill in autumn is too beautiful and photogenic! Although most of the ginkgo leaves at the entrance have fallen, which is a bit regrettable, after entering, I found that the beauty of the red maple is also absolute! After entering, follow the footpath on the left all the way down, there are many popular photo check-in points, very photogenic, and there are many beautiful ancient style girls taking travel photos🥰

|Is it a fairyland? It turns out to be Tiger Hill!. The great literati of the Song Dynasty, Su Shi, once said,
'If you come to Suzhou and don't visit Tiger Hill, it's a regret.'

Besides Tiger Hill has a rich historical background,
I think,
what makes Su Dongpo unforgettable,
must be this autumn color like a fairyland, right?
·
This autumn,
The autumn color of the Tiger Hill Nest Cloud Corridor debuted as the C position!
The Nest Cloud Corridor is located next to the Tiger Hill Tower,
In the old times, there was a 'Nest Cloud Pavilion' on Tiger Hill,
It was destroyed after being repaired in the 52nd year of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty,
The Garden Bureau rebuilt the 'Nest Cloud Corridor' in 1990 to restore its scenery.

❤️"If you come to Suzhou and don't visit Tiger Hill, it's a pity!" Thousands of years ago, the great literati of the Northern Song Dynasty, Dongpo, had been to Tiger Hill and was a loyal fan of it. If you haven't been to Tiger Hill, I suggest you all come. The beauty of Tiger Hill in late autumn and early winter is breathtaking.
🗺️Recommended route:
✅I suggest you enter from the south gate. There are two rows of ginkgo trees at the entrance. You can take a picture of the Tiger Hill Tower with ginkgo trees on both sides. The tower is in the middle. This is a classic spot for taking pictures of ginkgo trees at Tiger Hill.
After the ticket inspection, there is a patch of red maple, which is a great spot for taking pictures.
✅Yongcui Villa, this is a good place to take pictures of ginkgo trees. You can stand on the steps and take pictures of the ginkgo leaves falling in the tile gaps. It's very atmospheric. There are also a few large ginkgo trees outside the wall. You can pick up a few ginkgo leaves and put them on the wall as a foreground, and take pictures of the ginkgo trees behind.
✅On the way up to Lengxiang Pavilion, there is a patch of red maple. The combination of black tiles, white walls and red maple is perfect.
✅Right below the Tiger Hill Tower, do you like the Tiger Hill Tower with ginkgo trees as the foreground?
Tiger Hill has mountains, water, pavilions, terraces, towers, ancient temples, and various precious flowers and trees. The beauty of the four seasons can be seen in Tiger Hill. If you can only go to one scenic spot in Suzhou, go to Tiger Hill 👍
