Historic buildings

Portovenere is located on the southern tip of the headland of La Spezia in Italy. Its location is very special. The Romans built Porto Venere as a base for the route from Gaul to Spain. It has always been a military, economic and transportation hub since ancient times. At the same time, it is also known as a romantic place in the Ligurian Sea and is deeply loved by the British poet Byron. The sea here is calmer than on some of the other nearby islands. There is a promenade on the seaside, and the background of the trail is a field of brightly painted houses, reflected in the clear blue water. The medieval architectural style has been preserved, the streets are narrow, the buildings are dense, and the ancient castles and churches echo from afar. You can stand on the mountain and overlook the whole picture, or take a boat to have a unique mood. It is also a great place to relax and enjoy the delicious local seafood. Portovenere and the nearby Cinque Terre, as well as the numerous coastal islands, are like a string of bright pearls falling on the Ligurian coast and were inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1997.
