An afternoon in natural history!
With a spare afternoon in Beijing we popped by Beijing Museum of Natural History. Though it seems old the exhibitions are still very interesting and beautiful.
Very cheap entry ticket. We really enjoyed the animal displays and exhibitions, there are even dinosaur bones to appreciate. A very nice calm afternoon in the middle of a busy city.

Taking children to the museums in Beijing - Understanding the origin of life
The National Museum of Nature In the cold winter, the north wind howls, limiting the outdoor activities of children; therefore, visiting museums has become an ideal way to take children out in winter. There are many museums in Beijing, with a wide range of themes. This winter, let's take our children to the museum and open the door to their understanding of the world, nature, and themselves. The first stop is the National Museum of Nature.
The National Museum of Nature, located near the Temple of Heaven Park in the south of the city, is a national museum that is free and open to the public. Except for closing on Mondays, it is open to visitors at other times. However, if you want to take your children to visit, you need to make an appointment online first, and you need to make an appointment in advance on holidays.
The museum has several permanent exhibitions, including ancient reptiles, ancient mammals, the origin of life, invertebrates, the plant world, magical Africa, the origin of man, Dinosaur Park, and some temporary exhibitions. Parents can choose different content according to their children's age and interests.
Upon entering the first floor of the museum, parents can rent or buy AR guide glasses or 4D movie tickets according to their needs, or they can buy parent-child day or half-day tour tickets online in advance to gain a deep understanding of the scheduled sections.
The AR guide glasses are a high-tech experience project in the museum. Renting a pair of glasses costs 68 yuan, and a deposit of 199 yuan is required. If you don't want to pay a deposit, you can pay the rent and verify your identity with your ID card. This experience project is suitable for children over 6 years old who have preliminary self-control ability. Standing on any of the 40 floor stickers in the museum with the glasses on, the commentary will automatically play, giving you a sense of immersion. During the visit, you can also take a photo with a fun animal and print a photo for free.
There is a 4D cinema on the third floor of Area A of the museum. There are four different movies at 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning and 13:15 and 15:00 in the afternoon every day. The movie lasts about 15 minutes. The movie ticket is 20 yuan per ticket. Under normal circumstances, it is not recommended for children under 5 years old to watch the movie, and children under 8 years old need an adult to accompany them to watch the movie. Movie tickets can be purchased at the information desk on the first floor.
The Dinosaur Park on the first floor and the basement of the museum is more suitable for young children to visit. The museum's rich and colorful exhibits, ancient fossils, animal and plant specimens, and huge dinosaur skeleton models are the beginning of children's understanding of the world. It is recommended to take your child to visit the National Museum of Nature several times at different stages of their growth, to understand life and the world from here.
