Xiasi Ancient Town Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Xiaxi Ancient Town
🌟 A lesser-known millennium-old town, once hailed as "Little Shanghai," it is known as the pearl on the Qingshui River. Commercialization is not severe, and there is more of the local people's simple enthusiasm❣️
🏠 In the center of the ancient town, the Lusheng Square, Drum Tower, Opera Stage, Ancient Pier, and traditional stilted buildings are all characteristic of the ancient town.
🦮 Xiaxi Dog: A unique breed of dog, looks cute and well-behaved, but is actually the only world-class hunting dog in China. 🙅 Be cautious with close contact!
🌟 Intangible Cultural Heritage: Traditional paper-cutting, batik, handmade noodles
Xiashi Ancient Town

Surrounding Guiyang | A niche ancient town with a "human touch"
Located 2 hours' drive from Guiyang, the ancient town of Xiashi
Not many people, beautiful scenery, beautiful architecture
Everywhere is filled with the atmosphere of local ethnic life
🌟Travel Destination: Xiashi Ancient Town
📍Address: Xiashi Ancient Town, Majiang County, Kaili City, Qiandongnan, Guizhou Province
🎫Ticket: 45
🌟Xiashi Ancient Town:
The town has a history of more than 200 years, situated by the Qingshui River, and has been an important commercial port town since ancient times, known as "Little Shanghai". The wharf's cargo handling has led to the mixed residence of various ethnic minorities. The town is mainly inhabited by the Miao and Dong ethnic groups, so you can see girls dressed in Miao costumes singing and dancing, as well as Dong's Drum Towers and Republic of China style buildings.
🌟Sightseeing:
The main attractions in the ancient town are Lusheng Square, Yuwang Palace, Yangming Academy, and Guangdong Guild Hall. During the New Year period, there are immersive performances at various attractions: Huafang Xingge (10:30 20:30 Small Wharf Riverside), Langqiao Farewell (11:30 Yangming Academy), Xiafu Wedding (13:30 19:15 Lusheng Square), Shangma Opening Port (14:30 Big Wharf, Wharf Street), Red Mansion Dream (15:30 20:00 Lianxin Bridge), Guild Hall Memories (16:30 Guangdong Guild Hall).
🌟Cuisine:
The ancient town offers Miao sour soup hotpot, moon cakes, and blueberry ice powder. Fried snacks are also delicious at the street stalls, where we ordered fried rice skin, stinky tofu, bursting tofu, wolf tooth potatoes, and fried potato shreds. The fried rice skin is simply amazing, deep-fried with lotus white and then mixed with pickled radish, salt mustache, chili, and other seasonings. A big bowl is only 💰5, and the prices in the ancient town are touching.
We took a break at the food street and ordered a mixed platter of stewed flavors and blueberry ice powder. No matter what kind of ice powder, you must add fruit, and it will be covered with lots of blueberries 🫐, which burst in your mouth when chilled, and the ice powder is in a rose red sugar soup base. The average price of ice powder is between 💰10-15.
The ancient town is not far from Kaili city center, a half-hour drive, and we went to the city for dinner to eat beef rolling. The white sour soup base is appetizing and warms the body, with an average of two bowls of white sour soup per person. The beef dipped in secret chili water is tender, spicy, and delicious, spicy yet irresistible.
🌟Immersion:
At Lusheng Square, we encountered a wedding at Xiafu, where tourists and locals sang and danced together, while the old men by the square were contentedly chatting with bird cages in hand. The streets of the ancient town are full of various food stalls, brimming with the human touch of small-town life. In Yuwang Palace, the story of the Xiashi dog is told, Yangming Academy delves into Wang Yangming's inner world, and Lianxin Bridge experiences the beauty of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River. Drum Towers, Wind and Rain Bridges, Stilted Buildings, Republic of China style architecture, the buildings in the ancient town are also worth savoring.
Here, there is no commercial hustle and bustle. There are not too many shops, no milk tea shops, no entertainment venues. But if you have one day, like quietness, like photography, like architecture, you can come here for a visit. Spend a day, step into the life of the locals.
Kaili City in Guizhou Province is located on the banks of the Qingshui River, boasting a historic ancient town
🏨 Xiashi Ancient Town
❤ Recommended Reason:
Xiashi is not only stunning at night, but the 600-year-old buildings are also incredibly photogenic during the day! Xiashi Ancient Town is situated in Kaili City, Guizhou Province, nestled on the banks of the Qingshui River. This ancient town has a long history that dates back to the Ming Dynasty.
🌟 Highlights:
As an important commercial port in the southeastern region of Guizhou, Xiashi Ancient Town was once the economic, cultural, and transportation center of southeastern Guizhou. The town's architecture is unique and quaint, resembling a vivid ink painting!
🗓 Itinerary:
1. Drum Tower:
This is a common sight in Dong villages, and surprisingly, there's such a structure at Kaili South Station! It's usually used for meetings and dancing, and the dome is quite beautiful! You can take photos from different angles!
2. Xizi Tower:
A place where scholars in ancient times used to burn paper, with a small inverted U-shaped door for placing the paper!
3. Yangming Academy:
The most rewarding part of the trip!
The entire academy interprets the life of Wang Yangming from birth to death in five stages of 'realization'. His ups and downs, changes in thought, personality, hobbies, and character are vividly depicted on paper, truly dynamic!
4. Conscience Bridge
The bridge surface is more complex and grand. There's also another bridge called the Connected Hearts Bridge, both ancient and single-arched.
5. Lusheng Square:
A place where locals dance and sing, and also a large square for gatherings and performances, with an ancient stage (reportedly filmed by CCTV), and Western-style buildings – the old post office, connected to the ancient street, with vendors' calls echoing!
6. Yuwang Palace:
Actually, it's the former site of the Two Lakes Guild Hall, and the wood carvings inside are stunning, especially the wood carving with its two claws suspended in the air!
Moreover, the origin of the Xiashi dog is introduced inside, which is quite interesting. You can also visit the Zhejiang Guild Hall, which houses many coins from the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China!
7. Guangdong Guild Hall: Grand and splendid, it's said to have a very large stage inside, but it was not open today. The exterior walls are very beautiful, all patterned, and from the side, it looks like a 'convex' character. It's said that a lot of silver dollars were spent on its construction, not something ordinary people could afford!
🍽 Dining Recommendations:
Of course, there are also docks and some other buildings worth checking out! There are two restaurants recommended inside, one is Yang Dog Restaurant (owner's name), where I ordered a beef hotpot, which was very generous!
Then there's Xiashi Taste across the street, where I had 'chicken rice', which is actually smoked chicken porridge haha, both very affordable and delicious.
👍 Most Recommended:
Besides the architecture, you can also capture the local culture, framing the streets and residents together, which really brings out the flavor of the old street!

There are more than 2,100 people in the Lisha people, which is a branch of the black scorpion. It is said to be the descendant of the third son of Chiyou. Their ancestors fled to settle here, and the hardships and beliefs made them unique. The people of Zhangsha worship the forest and think that the soul of the ancestors is attached to the tree. As a result, rare species that have grown for hundreds of years can be found everywhere in the village. In order to protect the forest, the ancestors set the rules, and the man had to keep a long hair on his head. The Shasha man loves to arm, and he will bring a waist knife and a shotgun when he goes out. In order to respect their customs, the relevant departments approved a special approval to allow each of the sands men to have a shotgun. But how many mysterious stories are there in the sands, no one can make it clear...
Men carry seven pieces of equipment: firearms, wine cellars, machete, pipe, gunpowder gourd, purse, flower bag, After pondering, this equipment can be regarded as just having softness. The flower bag is probably sent by the sweetheart, and the combination of embroidery and dyeing is quite fine. The gun was squatting on the shoulder, the flower bag was slanting back, and the other equipment of the wine cellar machete was neatly hung on the waistband of the belt; wearing a black high-waisted coat with a rounded copper buckle on the left and right, a large trousers with straight legs, and a pair of big feet; Resolute and generous, holding the vertebrae on the top of his head, wrapped around a strip of headscarf, and escaped from a Warring States warrior.

The last gun tribe
In the foot of the Moon Mountain in Southeast Guizhou, the mysterious Basha Miao Village, the last gun-holding tribe.
What impressed me was the Tree of Life, there are five trees in the life of Basha people.
"A Tree of Life when born, a Disaster Relief Tree when growing up, a Faith Tree when becoming an adult, a Lover Tree when in love, and an Evergreen Tree when passing away."

Peaceful Nanhua Miao-Village in Kaili
Nanhua Miao village in Kaili (Guizhou) is one of the villages quite close to the city. It's small and not very developed, so you can see the real Miao village life without many toutists.

🏞️ What to do in Nanhua?
Walk the village, see some handcraft, eat local food and enjoy the green scenery with villages, river and green hills and mountains.
🏨 You can sleep in the village(s) or go back to Kaili town. Better book on Trip, because some hotels in Kaili only accept guests with Chinese ID card.

Nanhua Miao Village, Miao language Nangl hjib, as the name suggests, "flower" is "Ouhua River", "South" Miao language means "downstream of the river" meaning, "South Flower" is the Miao Village living in the lower reaches of the Ouhua River There are more than 500 years of history. Look at the pavement made of stone and cobblestones. There is a piece of stone wall made of bluestone on the roadside. There is no cement mortar, it is all by stone, and it is as natural as a rock. The wooden shacks are a patchwork of wooden shacks, lined up in the green hills halfway up the mountain. There are no crowds, some are just a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. There are several inns in the village, and the village is completely local. In the place of life, the villagers enjoyed the afternoon leisurely.
The Nanhua Miao Village, not far from the Langde Miao Village, is built on the hillside, and the hanging feet are layered on top of each other, nestled among the lush forests. At this time, Miao Village can see the Hmong people who work hard and the original Miao customs, as well as the landscape of the pastoral scenery!
In fact, Nanhua Miao Village and Langde Miao Village are the first batch of stockades to develop tourism, but now Xijiang Miao Village has far more fame than them. There are fewer and fewer tourists coming here, and many tourists are slowly forgetting. This beautiful little stockade, but also let this stockade return to the strong Miao nationality.
is a little smaller than Langde Miao Village, there are not many buildings, all built on the mountain, the air is fresh, in Nanhua Miao Village, most of the young and middle-aged are going out to work, leaving only a little older Old people and children, they are farming at home, self-sufficient, like to see how they work in front of their own home, more real and meaningful.
There is basically no tourist in Nanhua, and there is no commercialization. The whole village is particularly quiet. There is no selling sound here, there is no loud noise of sound broadcasting, only the laughter of children running in the alley, There is a soft chatter among the elderly under the roof. It is like a paradise that has not been cleaned.
Feel the purest original Miao culture here and really don't want to leave.
Although he is not as old as the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, he has a profound original Miao culture. It is also because of the current life of the Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village in 2008, which has made the South Huamiao Village, which used to be a busy city, gradually forgotten. Because of this, here Back to the original look, it happens to be more quiet and comfortable. If you want to experience the original Miao life, then here is your best choice, throwing away the noisy and hustle and bustle
suddenly rising. I saw four people looking out into the distance from the window upstairs. The age should be a student. The kind of light and light look is fascinating. I hope you and I are at
