Traveling back in time at Angkor Wat

#bucketlistreboot Angkor Wat is a temple complex situated in 5.5km north of Siem Reap City of Cambodia. Sprawling over 400 acres, Angkor wat is the largest religious monument in the world. The temple complex was built in 12th century as a Hindu religious site which turned into Buddhist Pilgrimage gradually in future as the faith of the monarchs changed. Afterwards it was slightly neglected until 20th century when it got restored and known to the world. The site is a beautiful record of inscriptions and stone works from centuries of regimes in Cambodia. Today, Siem Reap can be reached easily within few hours from capital city Phnom Penh and approx 12 hours from Bangkok, Thailand. Angkor Wat represents the Khmer art and architecture in its height and has become pilgrimage site to Hindus and Buddhists around the world as well as symbol of Cambodia to the world. Since the temple complex is huge, expect to spend a day or more exploring Angkor Wat. You will need to take tuktuk to go from one place to the other cuz it will be draining to walk such long distance in heat. The entrance fee depends on number of days you buy the pass for, normally 1 day ticket costs around $35, 3 days pass costs $60 and $72 for 7 days pass. The temple opens everyday at 5:30 am- 5:30pm. In the morning, sunrise is great from the site. I highly recommend wearing decent clothes, carrying sunscreen, getting hydrated, clearing storage of memory card and wearing comfortable shoes.
