The archaeological site Pompeii

The world famous Pompeii - the ancient Roman city in southern Italy that was destroyed by a volcano Vesuvius. The Mount Vesuvius, is still active, so the people living in the modern town still live with the risk of another eruption. Pompeii is located in 150 miles south of Rome, fairly close to Naples. The archaeological site of Pompeii is vast. If you have a real interest in the area, you will need all day, most leisure tourists may spend 2-3 hours at most. There are three main entrance gates, but main one is Piazza Anfitheatro. If you are interested in what you are seeing, it is better to hire guides (there are a lot in an entrance), or audio tours. Otherwise, you can just follow the map which can be obtained in ticket offices. Opening times: Pompeii is open Monday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm, with the last entry at 3.30pm #pompeii #italy #history
