South of the Colorful Clouds - Exploring the Ancient Tea-Horse Road
South of the Colorful Clouds|Exploring the Ancient Tea-Horse Road
A few horses, a group of people, have stepped out a world-famous plateau ancient road on the surface of the earth that is sealed as a "dead end" - the Ancient Tea-Horse Road, which is the only ancient civilization road still in operation on the mainland.
Xishuangbanna, Lijiang, Shangri-La, Tengchong are all harbors to save fatigue on the way of tea-horse trade. The scent of tea is still there, let's take another trip on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road!
Xishuangbanna|The starting point of the Ancient Tea-Horse Road
The "tea-horse trade" that rose in the Tang and Song dynasties started here. For a thousand years, the tea farmers of all generations have been adhering to the natural laws, protecting the tea trees, picking the tea leaves and making Pu'er tea, and sending the Pu'er tea here to Tibet in the sound of horse hooves. The tea of Xishuangbanna has made the Ancient Tea-Horse Road and has profoundly influenced the world tea culture.
Recommended Hotel: Xishuangbanna Yuechun Hot Spring Resort Hotel
The hotel is located in Menghai County, the "first county of Chinese Pu'er tea". Here you can personally experience tea picking, tea frying, tea making, and finally hold a cup of pure Pu'er, and feel the charm of Menghai's tea culture in the lingering tea fragrance.
Lijiang was a heavy town on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road in the past. At that time, the horse teams from the south to the north would rest here, receiving thousands of business travelers every year. It can be said that the glory of Lijiang is the glory stepped out by horse hooves, and its culture is the culture brought by the horse team. Whether it is architecture, religion, ethnic characteristics, lifestyle, etc., they are all closely related to the horse team.

I took a lifetime photo with my twin daughters in Xishuangbanna!
Xishuangbanna in winter is the ceiling of domestic parent-child travel, right? The weather in the 20s is not cold or hot, and I sleep naturally with my daughters every day, then change into Dai costumes to be Dai girls together, take beautiful photos, stroll and eat, and then soak in hot springs, it's really super comfortable and comfortable!
📷Share a few niche and suitable places for taking pictures with children:
✅Menghai Mengbalai Love Manor: You can see peacocks flying every day at 4 pm, and it's the first time for my daughters and I to see the scene of peacocks flying in the legend, the scene is quite shocking! You can also feed the peacocks, and you can easily take the same picture with the peacocks. This time I was lucky to take a lifetime photo with the peacocks opening their screens with my daughters.
✅Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion: It's quite far from the city, but basically no one, it's no problem to shoot the whole scene, the temple has a history of more than 300 years, it's a niche and low-key temple in Banna, but it's quite out of the picture to take pictures, especially aerial photography.
✅Yuechun Hot Spring: How can you not enjoy the hot spring when you come to Banna for vacation~ The buildings in Yuechun Hot Spring are full of Southeast Asian exotic style, it's very out of the picture to take pictures, especially the milk pool, it's really good to soak and take pictures, you can walk to the hot spring from the nearby Yuechun Hotel, remember to rent a Dai costume, the matching degree here is really high, and I easily took hundreds of photos~
✅Prajna Temple: The all-white temple, shining in the sun, it's really super out of the picture to take pictures! The main tower is not big, it takes 3 minutes to go around, if it rains, you can take a low-angle shot of the reflection on the ground, it's very shocking!
✅Manyuan Village: The mushroom house in 'Life of Yearning' is hidden here, the whole village is very quiet and comfortable, you can see the traditional Dai stilted houses, and you can also experience papermaking, pottery and other projects with children, the roast chicken and fresh juice in the village are delicious and cheap, it's worth a try.
🔖Travel Tips:
🔘The temperature difference is large in the morning and evening in winter, it's best to prepare a thin coat;
🔘There are many mosquitoes, you need to carry mosquito repellent when you go out;
🔘Don't wear shoulder-exposed and back-exposed clothes when shooting in the temple, skirts and trousers should also be over the knee;
🔘The attractions are quite scattered and a bit far away, it's recommended to drive by yourself if you bring children.

Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Departing from Xishuangbanna to Dali by self-driving on G214, Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion | You really know how to have fun!
Address, Jingdai Buddhist Temple in Jingzhen Village, Mengzhe Township, Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province
The Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is an important building of the central Buddhist temple in Jingzhen, located on the top of a circular hill next to Jingzhen Village, close to the Liusha River. The pavilion is octagonal in shape, with a brick and wood structure, and is about 20 meters high, consisting of a base, pavilion body, and spire.
It is said that the pavilion was built according to the style of the 'Kazhonghan' golden shawl cap of Buddha Sakyamuni, exclusively for the use of high monks to recite scriptures. The pavilion has 8 angles, representing the 8 'Mahatma' (high monks) around the Buddha; the 4 doors on the pavilion facing the southeast and northwest indicate that the followers should spread the thoughts of Buddhism in all directions.
On January 13, 1988, the Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion was announced by the State Council as the third batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
This trip departs from Xishuangbanna, self-driving on National Highway 214 to Dali, the first attraction.
🌈Attraction with free parking, no admission fee, a sanitation fee of 10 yuan per person is charged.
I spent the Spring Festival in warmth, admiring the 'national treasure' at the Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion
To avoid the cold, I flew from the north to the south to celebrate the New Year in warmth, arriving at Jingzhen Village, Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan. The Jingzhen Octagonal Pagoda is a must-visit spot‼️ The pagoda is so exquisitely made that it was listed as a third batch 'national treasure' in 1988.
The Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion belongs to the Theravada Buddhism architecture and serves as a Precept Hall, where monks chant scriptures, repent, hold meetings, and discuss major affairs and religious activities. The Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is just an independent building within the Jingzhen Buddhist temple complex, which consists of the main hall, drum tower, monks' quarters, precept hall, pagoda, and mountain gate.
🌈Highlights:
✅It is said that this is the place where Buddha Sakyamuni transformed a lake into a dam, and it is also the setting for the Dai narrative epic 'The Gourd Letter'.
✅The Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion was first built in the 40th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1701 AD), the 1063rd year of the Dai calendar, and is one of the three major ancient Theravada Buddhist buildings in the Banna region. It is said that the octagonal pavilion was built by Buddhists to commemorate Buddha Sakyamuni, imitating the gold-threaded cap 'Kazhonghan' he wore.
✅The Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is octagonal in shape, 15.42 meters high, and consists of a base, body, and top. The base is a folded-corner sub-shaped brick Sumi base, the pavilion is a wooden structure, and the pavilion roof is a conical spire with flat tiles. Inside and outside the pavilion, there are various patterns of flowers, animals, and figures, with unique and exquisite designs, a crystallization of the joint labor of the Dai and Han peoples.
💰Purse: Sanitation fee 5 yuan
Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion in Xishuangbanna, the lost Buddhist kingdom
It has no name, a forgotten corner, now remembered again.
Located in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna, it is said to be an unfinished scenic spot with no name and cannot be directly navigated. We navigated to the Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion, came out after the tour, entered the village along the rightmost village road, and arrived when we left the village.
After entering, you will find it is very large, the first thing that catches your eye are two huge reclining Buddha statues. Further up the hundred-step staircase, there is a dilapidated white temple, the front of which is full of half-human-high withered grass, and the ruined ruins have a kind of broken beauty.
The white temple has no stairs, but there are two pieces of wood there, perhaps left by the explorers before us.
We climbed up the wood and passed through the temple. There is another white temple behind, separated by a huge piece of farmland in the middle, too far away for us to go.
Surrounding are patches of paddy fields, with giant lotus sculptures and Buddha's hands scattered in the fields.
On the other side of the field are houses, and a few small temples scattered on several small hills.
There is a sense of life beyond the ruins, which is very interesting.
Lovely wildflowers embellish the bitterly cold abandoned temple, this kind of unyielding perseverance attracts me, the compatibility of strength and fragility, the natural environment that cannot be relaxed for a moment is full of charm.

The essential thing to come to Xishuangbanna is this performance show
, which is the world's largest fighting style, and is the only top art palace in China that combines Yi culture with high technology.
The world-class performance stage created by the huge amount of money, and the ultra-luxury cast line really surprised me.
One of the world's most famous shows, "Yu Xiu" is based on Xishuangbanna's beautiful legend "Peacock Princess". The 80-minute performance time is full of surprises.
The stage design of the theater is superb, and the performance of the actors is particularly appealing on the stage. The
shocking 3D effect and the waterfront design of the center of the stage bring a new visual experience that maximizes our aesthetic passion and is amazing!

Beautiful Xishuangbanna, different exotic styles! Colorful world! There are delicious food and beautiful Dai girls and the mighty Lijiang River! The sunset at 6:30 is on the river, and the golden glow is so beautiful that people can't move their eyes. How can I wear the clothes of the Yi people here? I can also be gentle at this moment.
From the beginning of the sun to the twilight, from the night of chaos to the sundown of the sun, I have seen the lush tropical jungle, embracing the refreshing winds of the mountains after the rain, breathing fresh and fragrant with a scent of dew, like unconsciously crossing To another parallel world, there are no sorrows and troubles, no depression and panic, only a young, jumping heart filled with curiosity and anticipation of the unknown.
Its not so much a trip, its better to say that this is an adventure. We are walking towards it and step by step, slowly uncovering the mysterious veil of Xishuangbanna.
Xishuangbanna is located at the southernmost tip of Yunnan. The ancient proverb is , meaning ideal and magical land. There is a saying that Xishuangbanna is composed of two words, "Xishuang" is the meaning of "12", and "Banna" is the meaning of "thousands of good fields", which together are "twelve thousand good fields", also It is the fertile land.
From Kunming, the flower city of Yunnan, all the way to Shilin, Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-La and other cities, the ancient city culture of Lijiang, the empty and sacred of Shangri-La, left me with an unforgettable memory. Today, I will arrive in Xishuangbanna, a paradise in China. Xishuangbanna, the ancient proverb is "", meaning "ideal and magical paradise." Xishuangbanna is a minority autonomous prefecture under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province. Located at the southernmost tip of Yunnan Province, it is the only oasis on the Tropic of Cancer. Most of the people living here are the Yi people, and they are also the most intact and largest areas of the Chinese tropical rain forest ecosystem. The botanical gardens here must go, there are subtropical jungles, beautiful and pleasant. On both sides of the road, banana trees, banana forests, betel nut trees and palm trees can be seen everywhere. Some people are wearing Tangs costumes. Several people are riding an elephant, smiling, and swimming. In this scene, I have only seen such a scene in the TV series "Journey to the West", as if it was the Tianzhu Kingdom on the way. It is a treasure house of nature, a green kingdom, and a bright pearl of the South. It is the place where the Wuling Renyuan River is a fairyland, and it is the hometown of the butterfly peacock. It is the universe where chaos first opened, and it is a feast for the summer.

Mengjinglai Scenic Resort Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Mengjinglai, the First Village on the China-Myanmar Border | Xishuangbanna Mengjinglai
I have finally arrived at the other side of the Anywhere Door - Xishuangbanna.
Due to the domestic TV variety show 'Where Are We Going, Dad?' one episode came to the mysterious and colorful China-Myanmar border, where lies a traditional Dai village - Mengjinglai, which still retains the traditional living forms and lifestyle of the Dai village. It became famous overnight and turned into a popular tourist destination in Xishuangbanna.
Mengjinglai is located within Menghai County of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, near the China-Myanmar border, 5 kilometers away from the Daluo Port. The clear Daluo River flows past the west side of Mengjinglai village, forming a natural national boundary. Across the river is the capital of the Fourth Special Region of Shan State in Myanmar, the famous tourist city - Xiaomengla, shining in the distance.
Mengjinglai is a typical traditional Dai village, adjacent to Myanmar, with frequent exchanges and intermarriages with the Shan people of Myanmar, resulting in a mixed Dai-Shan living phenomenon, hence the name 'The First Village on the China-Myanmar Border'.
Mengjinglai is not a very large Dai village, with just over a hundred households, yet it still maintains the village's simplicity and elegance. The Dai people are warm and hospitable, and the villagers continue to preserve their ancestors' ancient crafts such as papermaking, blacksmithing, pottery, sugarcane pressing, and brewing, which are living Dai folk handicrafts. Surrounding the village are over a hundred acres of paddy fields and several fish ponds, presenting a beautiful pastoral scenery. Since Mengjinglai is a traditional Dai village, there are Buddhist temples, pagoda forests, bodhi trees, and ancient springs scattered throughout, exuding a strong Southern Buddhist cultural atmosphere.

Off-the-beaten-path recommendation: The millennia-old Dai village hidden in Xishuangbanna
Step into Mandou Village located in Gasa Town, and you can savor the ancient Dai village that has a history of a thousand years.
The well-preserved stilt-style architecture in the village, along with its natural environment nestled against the mountains and waters, is very comfortable.
The bustling morning market at the entrance of the village introduces you to the local life and authentic lifestyle of the Dai people, hidden within the hustle and bustle of the streets.
Mandou Village is not large, and it doesn't attract too many tourists, so here you can experience the original and simple Dai culture, which has a history of over 1000 years.

Five things you must know before going to Mengjinglai
1⃣️Why is Mengjinglai so popular?
The phenomenal domestic variety show 'Dad, Where Are We Going?' was incredibly popular when it aired. It can be said to have set a record for domestic parent-child programs that has yet to be broken, whether in terms of ratings or topic discussion. Not only did this program make many 'daddy stars' and their children famous, but it also brought fame to many filming locations. Mengjinglai, a typical traditional Dai village located in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, on the China-Myanmar border, 5 kilometers from the Kunluo Highway to the Daluo Port, became a popular tourist destination in Xishuangbanna after the parent-child variety show became popular.
2⃣️Where is Mengjinglai?
Mengjinglai has been low-key for a long time. It is precisely because of this low-key that it can still continue and retain its traditional living form and lifestyle, becoming a typical traditional Dai village that tourists yearn for. Mengjinglai, located in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, is only 5 kilometers away from the Kunluo Highway to the Daluo Port because it is located on the China-Myanmar border. The clear Daluo River flows through the west side of Mengjinglai Village, forming a natural border line. Across the river is the capital of the fourth special zone of Shan State, Myanmar, and the famous tourist city - Xiaomengla.
3⃣️Why is Mengjinglai called the first village in China and Myanmar?
There are many Dai villages in Xishuangbanna, but due to modern development, many Dai villages have undergone earth-shaking changes, so many tourists can't find the original Dai villages. However, Mengjinglai still retains the characteristics of the Dai village. Even after the variety show became popular, it still maintains its original state and is still a typical traditional Dai village. Mengjinglai is not a big village, with only over a hundred households and more than 500 people. Because it is adjacent to Myanmar and has frequent exchanges with the Shan people in Myanmar, there is freedom of marriage here, and intermarriage is allowed, forming a rare Dai-Shan mixed residence phenomenon, hence the name 'the first village in China and Myanmar'.
4⃣️What does Mengjinglai retain?
Audiences who have watched the third season of 'Dad, Where Are We Going?' must be quite familiar with Mengjinglai. In the program, we can see that the village is simple and elegant, the Dai people are hospitable, and the 114 Dai households in the village still retain their traditional living forms and lifestyles, as well as the ancient papermaking, blacksmithing, pottery making, sugar pressing, and brewing techniques passed down from their ancestors. There are more than a hundred acres of paddy fields and fish ponds scattered around the village, presenting a beautiful rural scenery. Since this is a traditional Dai village, there are Buddhist temples, pagoda forests, and bodhi trees standing among them, and the village is filled with the strong cultural characteristics of Theravada Buddhism.
5⃣️What touches tourists in Mengjinglai?
In 2016, the second stop of the third season of the popular parent-child variety show 'Dad, Where Are We Going?' on Hunan Satellite TV came to Mengjinglai in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna, known as 'the first village in China and Myanmar'. Although this was the first time Mengjinglai appeared on a satellite TV variety show, and the show helped people learn about it, the real reason that attracted people to check in was the original characteristics of the traditional Dai village in Mengjinglai, which still continues and retains its traditional living form and lifestyle. It has become a window for us to understand it and a popular tourist destination.
The second day of the Lunar New Year is the release of the lotus flower and the bathing of the lotus. The protagonist of the release is the monk, and the protagonist of the lotus bath is these beautiful girl, not beautiful, you!

Xishuangbanna Jianglu·Nannuo Mountain, watching the sunset and the starry sky
It's really a great hotel, originally only booked for one day, but couldn't forget it after leaving, so I came back, didn't want to leave the next day, and finally cancelled the following hotel and stayed for two more nights.
The weather in Nannuo Mountain is too good, not cold or hot, very comfortable. The hotel is located in the best feng shui place on the mountain. The scenery on the fifth floor terrace is super beautiful, and it's different every day. During these days, I saw the sunset, sea of clouds, colorful auspicious clouds, and many stars at night, and even vaguely saw the Milky Way.
There's no need to mention the basic room facilities, they are indeed up to five-star standards. The management is particularly attentive, much warmer than ordinary hotels. The butler's thoughtful care is needless to say, the kitchen can adjust the taste according to the needs, and the unfinished meal can be stored for the next meal.
The arranged activities are also very rich, whether it's the afternoon tea king tree visit, morning hiking or evening bonfire talks, the boss will entertain enthusiastically. The hiking experience is even better than the botanical garden, where you can see many different insects and plants, and even many fruit trees that are not seen in the botanical garden.
The water in the swimming pool is particularly good. I am a patient with allergic rhinitis, and often have rhinitis after swimming. I swam many times here, and there was no problem with my nose after each swim. The tea room on the fifth floor is also great, blowing the breeze while making tea and playing chess, it's so artistic.
