Medieval Fortified Tower in Belem, PORTUGAL 🇵🇹
#timetotravel
I visited the Belem Tower after its opening hours so I was not able to go in an only looked at it from the outside. But nonetheless, I believe it was still worth visiting and taking pictures with it on the outside. It is because what are the odds you will find another historical monument by the port!!
The tower itself is truly beautiful and is a well maintained historical monument.
Definitely worth a visit when you are in Lisbon. There are also loads of cafe and restaurants near by if you want to take a break from exploring.

Belem Beauty
Visit Belem where you can see the ponte 25 de Abril and de Cristo Rei. You can also see the historical monuments such as the Padrao de Descobrimentos and Torre de Belem. To follow this up you can eat the best pastel de Belem at the cafe where they have been making it since 1837.Fun fact: the real name of the tart is pastel de Belem. Only pastries that come out of their ovens can be called pastéis de Belém, otherwise if manufactured by a third party it has to be called pastel de nata. To follow this amazing experience you can even take a boat trip across the channel to see the beauty of Belem .
Where the river meets the ocean 🇵🇹
When in Lisbon, there a few things to do outside or in the outskirts of Lisbon itself - and visiting the Belem tower is one of them.
The Belém Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Lisbon’s most striking monuments and the icon of a country historically moulded by its proximity to the ocean and its maritime discoveries of new worlds.
Discoveries by Portuguese navigators transformed Lisbon into the world’s main trade hub in the 15th and 16th centuries.
To protect the city, King João II conceived a pioneer project to defend Lisbon from enemy ships, a work completed in 1514 and which included the building of the Belém Tower, designed by architect Francisco de Arruda.
The tower’s unique design includes a modern and heavily armed bastion, protruding over the river.
King Manuel I clearly wished the Belém Tower to stand as a lasting symbol of his powerful reign by depicting the royal coat of arms, the armillary sphere and the cross of the Order of Christ.

Lisbon Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
“ By day Lisbon has a naive theatrical quality that enchants and captivates, but by night it is a fairy-tale city, descending over lighted terraces to the sea, like a woman in festive garments going down to meet her dark lover. “
This is the capital of Portugal - Lisbon or Lisboa. This is the place where many years ago many discoverers started their trips to the unknown world. Nowadays the main attractions are the 2 very long bridges, the Belem Tower, the walking streets around the old town and also the trams.

Jerónimos Monastery Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
🏰✨ TIPS for Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon! ✨🏰
#wecreate
The monastery itself is a work of art and definitely worth a visit. Once you arrive you will see two queues. The shorter one is typically for the church (free to visit) and the longer one will be for the monastery (you need to have a ticket).
The monastery hosted the famous signing of the 2007 Treaty of Lisbon which was held in the cloister of the monument.
The Lisbon card states you get fast track however, don’t be fooled, it just means you get the entrance, there isn’t a “fast-track” queue. We suggest you head over there first thing in the morning, the queue can be between 1-2h wait time at midday.

The building is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome, it became the necropolis of the Portuguese royal dynasty of Aviz in the 16th century but was secularized on 28 December 1833.
The church and the monastery, like the nearby Torre de Belém and Padrão dos Descobrimentos, symbolise the Portuguese Age of Discovery and are among the main tourist attractions of Lisbon. In 1983, UNESCO formally designated the Monastery of the Hieronymites and Tower of Belém as a World Heritage Site.

Checkinaway (@checkinawayblog) Mesmerising architecture - Jeronimos
The Jeronimos Monastery is the most impressive symbol of Portugal's power and wealth during the Age of Discovery. King Manuel I built it in 1502 on the site of a hermitage founded by Prince Henry the Navigator, where Vasco da Gama and his crew spent their last night in Portugal in prayer before leaving for India. It was built to commemorate Vasco Da Gama's voyage and to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for its success.
Vasco da Gama's tomb was placed inside by the entrance, as was the tomb of poet Luis de Camões, author of the epic The Lusiads in which he glorifies the triumphs of Da Gama and his compatriots. Other great figures in Portuguese history are also entombed here, like King Manuel and King Sebastião, and poets Fernando Pessoa and Alexandre Herculano.
The monastery was populated by monks of the Order of Saint Jerome (Hieronymites), whose spiritual job was to give guidance to sailors and pray for the king's soul. It's one of the great triumphs of European Gothic (UNESCO has classified it a World Heritage monument), with much of the design characterized by elaborate sculptural details and maritime motifs. This style of architecture became known as "Manueline," a style that served to glorify the great "discoveries" of the age.

Jeronimos Monastery was built in 1502 and located in Praca do Imperio 1400-206, Lisboa, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday 1000-1700, close on Monday. Take Tram Line 15 to alight at Mosteiro Jeronimos and you will see the Monastery.
The cloisters are magnificent, with each column differently carved with coils of rope, sea monsters, and other sea motifs, evocative of that time of world exploration at sea.
The church interior is spacious with octagonal piers decorated with reliefs, and outside the garden laid out in 1940 consisting of hedges cut in the shape of various municipal coats of arms of Portugal.
The Jeronimos Monastery is one of the most visited sites in Lisbon, and it was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

Time Out Market Lisboa Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Read if you are on the hunt for good food in Lisbon 🇵🇹😋🍖
#timetotravel
We came during late afternoon on a weekday and the Time Out Market was quite empty.
You may consider this a tourist trap but honestly we saw quite a few locals dining at the Time Out Market and the food is not too expensive. At the end of the day, as long as the food is good and not overpriced, i’m happy ☺️ This market is ideal for tourists that wants to try out different kind of local dishes.
We ordered a portion of tuna tartare and ham served with melon and sourdough. Everything was so fresh and amazing!!! The melon and ham combo was so amazing, I still dream about it this day 🤤😋
Hands down, I would 100% recommend visiting this market.

It has 36 kiosks selling regional specialties such as Portuguese Duck rice, Seafood Risotto and Bacalhau Batoteiro ( Codfish with spinach, carrots and white sauce).
All the foods i had ordered, tasted delicious, but the only problem was finding a place to sit, because the crowds are terrible, especially when you go in during lunch time.

Lisbon is more like a life. I will push it again, and I will love this city~
Lisbon, Portugal, is all about good food and fun, which are the main themes of this city
Traveling and taking photos in Portugal is a great choice for you.
The colorful houses built on the hillsides🏠, the ancient trams🚌, the ubiquitous taverns🍷, the romantic Fado music🎵... Walking through the streets and alleys, listening to the old ding-ding sound of the trams, the air is filled with the sweet aroma of Portuguese egg tarts, it's like entering a dopamine-filled fairy tale world

Lisbon is known as the 'City of Seven Hills,' and compared to the tourist-packed Barcelona and Madrid, it has more of a living atmosphere, with a history older than Paris and London, and the key is that the prices are really super beautiful, making it a great destination for budget travelers~
-
✅Alfama District: The oldest district in Lisbon, with many historical monuments and landscapes. For tourists, Alfama is the place to experience the authentic Lisbon life. Walking around this old district is the best way to understand the city's rise and fall and its lively atmosphere.
-
✅Tram 28: The city's name, Lisbon, is truly embodied by Tram 28. It is one of the oldest trams in Europe. The tram traveling through the streets, hillsides, and in front of churches is one of the most representative postcard images of Lisbon. The more you ride, the more you'll love Lisbon.
-
✅St. George's Castle: This is the highest point in the old district. Climbing up to the castle at dusk, with the colorful houses and the glittering sea, playing guitar and singing with a few good friends, waiting for the sunset to reveal dreamy colors, is the most romantic thing I can think of.
-
✅Thieves Market: In the Alfama district's Santa Clara Square, every Tuesday and Saturday it turns into a bustling market. For those who like vintage items, or want to find some souvenirs, this is heaven. From tableware, decorations, records, books, cameras... everything is available, and the prices are beautiful and acceptable.

Although egg tarts are a traditional dessert known to every household, and can be bought in any street or alley, to eat the most authentic and historic egg tarts, you still have to go to the century-old shop Pastéis de Belém in the suburb of Lisbon, Belem.
