Tianbao Temple of Dongyang Lake Creek is renowned for its abbots

Tianbao Zen Temple is located in Mukengwo, Huxi Village, Huxi Town, Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province. The temple is surrounded by mountains on three sides and is situated on the slope of Panlong Mountain with a 45-degree incline. Flanked by two mountains on either side, the temple leans against Panlong Mountain, with lush forests and bamboo, casting dense and flowing shades of green. Tianbao Zen Temple was founded in 1943, and a high monk from the Tiantai Guoqing Temple was invited to be the abbot. In 1947, Tianbao Zen Temple was completed and became a famous temple in Dongyang. However, it suffered severe damage due to neglect and the Cultural Revolution, and gradually faded from people's memory. In April 1990, a young monk who was studying at the Shanghai Buddhist College happened to pass by and saw the temple in ruins, with only one lay Buddhist permanently residing to take care of it. After a long conversation, the lay Buddhist enthusiastically invited him to become the abbot of Tianbao Zen Temple. The young monk was moved by the layman's sincerity and readily agreed. He is Master Guangquan, who later became the first president of the Dongyang Buddhist Association, president of the Zhejiang Buddhist Association, and abbot of Hangzhou's Lingyin Temple. Although he was studying in Shanghai at the time, Master Guangquan always kept Tianbao Zen Temple in his heart. In his mind, this temple in Dongyang held the same status as the incense-rich and far-famed millennium-old Lingyin Temple, both being pure lands of Buddhism. In 2010, Master Huichuan was appointed by Master Guangquan to take charge of the restoration of Tianbao Zen Temple. Now, the temple complex includes the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Avatamsaka Hall, Chanting Hall, north and south wing rooms, and a life-release pond. The temple's incense offering is thriving, its scale is expanding, and it has become a charming cultural landscape.
