Recalling Yangzhou

When visiting Yangzhou, one must follow the local customs, starting with the culture, then the scenery, and the cuisine. Yangzhou is dotted with historical sites, and Huaiyang cuisine is one of the four great culinary traditions of China. Yangzhou's profound cultural heritage includes the zither, chess, calligraphy, painting, storytelling, singing, and scissors craft. Several emperors have visited Yangzhou: Qin Shi Huang, Zhao Kuangyin, Cao Pi twice, Kangxi six times, Qianlong six times, and Emperor Yang of Sui is buried in Yangzhou. Throughout history, countless officials, scholars, and literati have come to Yangzhou. The 'Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou' are already well-known, the Ruan Family Temple of the Three Dynasties is in Yangzhou, and the descendants of the He family from Ho Garden are numerous and talented. Opened in 1912, the Jiyuan Inn is one of the few century-old Republic of China era hotels still in operation and has hosted masters such as Zhu Ziqing, Yu Dafu, and Mei Lanfang.
