Jindaiji Temple is the second oldest temple in Tokyo after Sensoji Temple. It is not as bustling and crowded with people as Sensoji Temple. The quietness away from the hustle and bustle of the city is the biggest charm of Jindaiji Temple. Jindaiji Temple, built in 733 A.D., still maintains its original appearance. It is the oldest national treasure in the Kanto region, "Hakuho Buddha", and it is the only temple in Tokyo that has a national treasure Buddha statue. More than a thousand years ago, Shendaiji Temple was already a famous temple for praying for disaster relief and marriage. "National Treasure Hakuho Buddha" is a bronze statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. It is also called Hakuho Buddha because it was a work of the Hakuho period in the seventh century. Every year on March 3rd and 4th, Jindaiji Temple’s annual Echigensan Daishi Festival is held. During these two days, a distinctive Dharma tumbler market will be held, which is also one of the three major Dharma tumbler markets in Japan. The quiet streets around Jindaiji Temple are full of the atmosphere of the Edo period.
