The beautiful lake and mountain scenery is breathtaking and is known as 'a fairyland on earth, a garden of the gods'. 'Kanas' is Mongolian, meaning 'beautiful and mysterious lake'. Kanas Lake is located in the north of Burqin County, Altay Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The lake water comes from the glacial meltwater of mountains such as Kuitun and Friendship Peak and local precipitation. The lake surface is 1374 meters above sea level, covering an area of 45.73 square kilometers. The highest point of the lake is 1181.5 meters, and the lake is 188.5 meters deep. It is a high-altitude lake and inland freshwater lake located in the dense forests of the Altai Mountains. The Kanas Lake scenic area integrates peculiar natural landscapes such as mountains, rivers, forests, lakes, and grasslands, historical and cultural relics such as the point of Genghis Khan's western expedition army and ancient rock paintings, and the unique folk customs of the Mongolian Tuva people. It has major attractions such as Camel Neck Bay, Color-changing Lake, Sleeping Dragon Bay, and Fish Watching Pavilion.
