Arrived at the visitor center, then take their car to the Zaxi Peninsula of Namtso. There is no ticket from Bange County to Namtso. Passed Nima Village, Shengxiang Tianmen has been sealed and cannot be entered. Today's lake tour, finally find a place to camp, 9 o'clock Milky Way is above the head, it is difficult to shoot, took a few photos and then rest.

Such grand and tranquil beauty only exists in the snowy mountain holy lake - Namtso
It's not its fault that it's so beautiful, this is Tibet's Namtso. Namtso is one of the 'three holy lakes' in Tibet. It is the first divine lake of the ancient Bon religion, and one of the famous Buddhist holy places. Wherever you look, there is pure blue, boundless vastness, sacred and flawless. Being here, you can let go of everything and just be yourself. If blue is a synonym for beauty, it must be describing here.
'In this land reserved by God, even time freezes...'
When you come to Namtso, you will experience what it feels like to have a sudden enlightenment! It is located in the central part of the Tibet Autonomous Region, the second largest lake in Tibet, and the third largest saltwater lake in China!
Located on the 'roof of the world', it presents the sacred and pure beauty to the world without reservation!
To the south of the lake, there are the year-round snow-capped Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, and to the north and west, there are gentle highland hills and a vast lakeshore. The heavenly lake is like a giant mirror, embedded in the grasslands of northern Tibet!
Here, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, with changing clouds, unlike the turbulent sea, the rushing waterfall. Namtso, just lies there quietly, tranquility is her posture, the troubles of the world have nothing to do with her.....
Such grand yet tranquil beauty only exists in the snowy mountain holy lake - Namtso!
Namtso, is one of the 'three holy lakes' in Tibet, and also a must-visit spot for Tibet travel. It is also known as the 'lake closest to heaven'. The azure lake, blue sky and white clouds, scattered yaks, distant snow-capped mountains, this is Namtso, a holy place to purify the soul.
Ticket price: 120 yuan, taking a photo with the yaks in the scenic area is 50 yuan per photo (you can bargain, depending on your bargaining ability).
Precautions:
!The most important thing to pay attention to when traveling to Tibet is altitude sickness, especially in Namtso, where the altitude reaches over 5000, it is easy to have altitude sickness, it is recommended to bring medicine for altitude sickness.
!The wind here is particularly strong, it can make your head ache, thick clothes and hats are necessary, be prepared for wind protection. And because the light is strong, sunglasses are also necessary, otherwise you can't open your eyes, and you need to be prepared for sun protection to prevent sunburn.
!Choose a good time to travel, the weather greatly affects the beauty of Namtso, although the scenery is not bad on cloudy days, but Namtso on a sunny day is really beautiful! The best time to go to Namtso is from July to September.
!When taking pictures, be careful not to take pictures of the local Tibetans and cattle and sheep, because they may charge you. And when taking a photo with a yak, keep a safe distance first, because you might get kicked.

The largest salt water lake in Tibet
Words can't describe how truly majestic and serene
this place is. One of the last stops on my trip
through Tibet was NAMTSO LAKE.
This was the most vibrant lake and it stretched on
for ages. It lies at an elevation of 4,718 meters or
about 15,500 feet and is the largest salt lake in the
autonomous region.
Getting to the lake was an especially unique
experience. After checking in to get out entrance
tickets, we boarded an eco friendly bus and
travelled 20 minutes to get to the lake. It is very
serene and well preserved. There is also a
monastery near by to visit.
It was quite windy during our visit so I highly
recommend a jacket and ear warmers. We were
there in early October.

Namtso, the holy lake of Tibet
Namtso is the second largest lake in Tibet and the third largest saltwater lake in China. At an altitude of 4718 meters, it is the highest lake in the world. Backed by the Himalayas, the lake is blue and clear. The weather in Namtso was very magical, with heavy snow flying outside the mountain, and clear skies beside the lake. There are many beautiful white yaks dressed up by Tibetans by the lake. You can pay to take pictures for 50 yuan/time. There are many seagulls by the lake, which are also very beautiful.

The mysterious and moving Namco is the color of the sky melted
The continuous Nyainqentanglha Snow Mountain, the innocent Tibetan grassland, the colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, the waves on the lake surface, Just like the dress of the goddess dressed in the jade, the beauty is so comfortable, so confident, so brilliant, so gentle, so charming.
Standing by the lake, the lake under the feet is like the waves in the tide, and waves come and go.
can't tell where the lake is, where is the blue sky.
It is the Himalayan orogeny that left us with a corner of the vast ocean of ancient times.
In Tibet, we may miss a lot of scenery, because the weather, because of the season, because of fate, but Namco will never let you down.
Standing on the side of Nam Co Lake, watching the tidal waters and seeing the snowy mountains, it seems to be in a clean world. Just listen to the name and you can feel its beauty. The beauty of Namco is ever-changing, slowly opening your eyes, and you will discover the beauty of Namco. Namco is quietly lying under the vast sky, it is so clean, so blue, blue I can't believe that it belongs to its color. How do I describe the color in front of me?
Is the lake melting the sky? The blue is clear, the blue is rich, the blue is charming, it seems to contain all the blue in the world, and the beauty is shocking. Blue is fascinating.
The blue of the lake and the sky, the snowy mountains and the white of the clouds give the purest beauty here. Nam Co is probably exhausting the blue pigments of the world, or how can it be so pure? I can't use words to express my feelings. I have never seen a lake of this color in my life. The picture in front of me shocks my heart. Namco is the holy lake in the hearts of the Tibetan people. It is just a long-sighted look. Very satisfied.
There is no water grass in the lake. Perhaps the Namu wrong goddess loves to be neat and tidy. It is no wonder that the lake looks so pure. Really want to snuggle around her, not willing to leave, sit quietly, blowing the cool breeze on the water, drunk! When the light changes slightly, there will be different colors, and the taste will be realized. I used to look at pictures, I always felt very unreal. In the original world, there really is such a beautiful scenery. Water and sky are the same, water and day meet, beautiful.
said that everyone who has been to Namtso, the whole soul seems to be washed by pure lake water, I admit that this sentence is true. Seeing everything in front of me, the legendary Namu's water source is the nectar of the Imperial Palace in the Imperial Palace. I think it is true! The Nam Co in front of this is a wonderful mirror of the goddess of the Heavenly Palace. I think it is true too!
The blue color of the lake here is the only color. It is the only but most precious thing given by the gods. It makes us sigh the wonders of nature. Everything is spiritual, this intoxicating blue, infiltrating your soul, exudes its mysterious beauty. The feeling of being able to let go of the sea facing the sea is a sense of happiness that the Iraqis are by their side. It is estimated that only in the natural environment like Nam Co, can you feel the time to stay at the most beautiful moment. I really want to jump into her arms! At this moment, my heart is deeply shaken.
suddenly understands that when you encounter the true beauty of touching the mind, the language and the words are poor, because you will feel that all the beauty is not enough to describe this in front of you. all. Nam Co, like a beautiful song, sings into the depths of every singer's heart.

Potala Palace - Tibet Autonomous Region
Getting there - Book with a tour group to get to Tibet. We used JoyTravel in China and they were wonderful. :)
Take a moment to stop and catch your breath, the Potala Palace sits at an elevation of 3700 meters about 12,100 feet. We spent time hiking up and through each room. The many rooms of the palace were exquisite and it was such a treat to learn about the history of each location. Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Tibet | Will you regret not visiting the Holy Elephant Gate on your trip to Namtso?
I won't, I haven't.
For me, the most indispensable experience in traveling is comfort: including what the body endures and what the eyes see.
Before setting off, I compared the difficulty of departing from Lhasa to visit the Holy Elephant Gate and just going to the Tashi Peninsula:
💠 Holy Elephant Gate:
Altitude 4700 meters;
An 8-hour drive, even if you set off early in the morning, you won't arrive until evening;
If you stay overnight on the way, you can only choose between simple lakeside guesthouses or tents;
The road conditions are poor, with the last 50 kilometers being washboard roads;
Tickets must be booked three days in advance;
You can check in at the popular Elephant Stone photo spot (you need to climb up yourself), and gaze at the distant Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains;
💠 Tashi Peninsula:
Altitude 4700 meters;
A 3-hour drive, allowing for a round trip to Lhasa within the same day;
You can stay in the best hotel in Damxung County and enter the scenic area early the next morning to avoid the peak of the crowds;
The road conditions are good;
Tickets can be bought upon arrival;
You can't see the popular Elephant Stone, but you can get a close view of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains;
In Tibet, comfort is relative. After considering my physical condition, tolerance for hardship, and travel desires, I chose to give up on the Holy Elephant Gate.
Therefore, when I didn't spend too much time and energy on exhausting travel; when I could rest in the best hotel in Damxung County instead of sleeping in a lakeside tent dormitory; when I was lucky enough to catch good weather, and even if it was cloudy, I had ample time to wait for it to clear up; when I saw the Namtso Lake waters that looked like gems from afar and like jade up close, as well as the sacred Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, I felt very fulfilled and had no regrets.
Tibet Day 6 chartered tour
DAY6: Barmu Lake - Namtso - Nalagen Mountain Pass - Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain - Lhasa
Barmu Lake: Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, I took a leisurely stroll here. You can't get close to the lake, you can only overlook Barmu Lake from a high place~ I casually took a few shots, the last two days I didn't even want to take pictures, didn't want to edit the pictures, just wanted to keep the beautiful scenery in my eyes~
Namtso: One of the three major holy lakes in Tibet, it's a must-visit spot. There are no other adjectives, it's just beautiful. This is by the lake, spent forty on the lakeside riding a horse, it was quite interesting. I went around twice, and also played with skipping stones by the lake, I can only skip three at most, I'm not good but I love to play.
Nalagen Mountain Pass: Here you can hang prayer flags and throw longda, it's very lively, but the wind on the mountain is strong, and there are so many people that it's hard to even take a picture of a stone. Everyone hung the prayer flags and left, I didn't participate. I asked the driver, these prayer flags will be regularly cleaned up, they basically won't hang for a long time, it's a bit of a spoiler haha.
Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain: After seeing the Karola Glacier and Mount Everest, everyone was not interested in this scenic spot, only I got off the car to take a look, indeed there was nothing to see, the viewing platform was dirty, and it was a distant view, it was almost the same as what I saw in the car, indeed there was no need to get off the car, getting off the car was just to take a breath~
Lhasa: Went to Lhasa and went to the shop recommended by the driver to buy local products, because I felt that the driver was quite good along the way, everyone trusted him, everyone spent quite a lot, bought some local products and saffron, finally he dropped us off at a hotel near the airport, the journey finally ended~ In the evening, I also ate delicious barbecue
Is it feasible to go to Tibet in winter??
By the lake at an altitude of 4700, feel the winter wind blowing in your face.
Tibet in winter, Tibet·China, is relatively colder than usual.
The oxygen content on the plateau decreases, and many people avoid it during this season.
However,
If you are willing to bear the weight that others can't bear,
You can see the scenery that others can't see.
When I was driving on this road,
The real snowfield
Only then did the curtain rise.
Why go to Tibet in winter?
①Although this season is relatively cold, the altitude of the Sichuan-Tibet line rises all the way, and the sun is warm.
②The plateau has less precipitation in winter, and the probability of good weather is greater.
③There are fewer people in this season, and you can enjoy a more private and quiet travel experience.
④High cost performance, this season is the off-season for Sichuan-Tibet line tourism, and it is also the "Winter Tour Tibet" discount period. You can save a lot of expenses on tickets and accommodation, and you don't have to worry about crowding and queuing.
⑤Winter is the best viewing period for Laigu Glacier, Namtso, and many snow-capped mountains. The Laigu Glacier only has "blue ice" in winter, and only during this period can you get close to blue ice, ice caves, glaciers and other landscapes!
Tashi Peninsula Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Winter at Namtso
Namtso Heavenly Lake - Travel Guide. Namtso is one of the three holy lakes of Tibet, which in Tibetan means 'Heavenly Lake'. It is located in the southern part of Shigatse, Tibet Autonomous Region, at an altitude of 4718 meters. The lake stretches 70 kilometers from east to west and 30 kilometers from north to south, covering an area of 1920 square kilometers. It is a stunningly beautiful and mysterious tourist attraction. On a sunny and breezy day, the majestic Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains are reflected in the lake, creating a tranquil and peaceful scene.
1. Best Viewing Spots
The Nagenla Pass, at an altitude of 5190 meters, is one of the best spots to view Namtso from a distance. From there, one can see the vast expanse of azure water. Namtso, like a gem lost by the heavens and quietly set among the mountains, is breathtaking.
2. Best Season to Visit
The best time to visit Namtso is from June to September during the summer and autumn months. Namtso is inaccessible due to heavy snowfall in October and November, and the weather from November to May of the following year is cold and dry, making it unsuitable for mountain excursions.
3. Food Recommendations
Most of the restaurants on Tashi Peninsula are Tibetan restaurants run by Tibetans, along with some Sichuanese restaurants. Due to high transportation costs, most dishes are quite expensive, ranging from 30 to 50 yuan. It is advisable to bring your own dry food and water. Alternatively, you can dine in Damxung County, where Tibetan and Sichuanese restaurants are the main options.
4. Transportation
1. You can choose a travel agency in Lhasa to provide a one-day tour to Namtso, usually departing in the morning, arriving in 3-4 hours, playing for 2-3 hours, and then returning the same way.
2. You can also charter a car or join a carpool within Lhasa, following the same route. The advantage is the flexibility of the itinerary, and you can also choose to stay overnight by the lake.
5. Entrance Fee
Namtso is a 4A-level scenic area. During the peak season (May 1 to October 31), the ticket price is 120 yuan per person, and during the off-season (November 1 to April 30 of the following year), it is 60 yuan per person. Half-price discounts are available for children under 6 years old, full-time undergraduate and below students with a valid student ID, seniors between 60 and 70 years old (excluding 70 years old), active military personnel, disabled veterans, and individuals with a valid disability certificate.
6. Precautions
1. Namtso is near the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, but please note that there are no gas stations nearby.
2. Namtso experiences significant temperature differences between day and night, with strong ultraviolet radiation. Be sure to keep warm, protect against the sun, and carry medication for altitude sickness.
3. Do not take photos of the yak horns by the lake casually, as they are chargeable. Do not secretly photograph yaks to avoid disputes with locals.
4. Drinking butter tea, dairy products, and eating beef and mutton in moderation can enhance your adaptability to the high-altitude climate.
5. Rest more when you first arrive on the plateau, drink more water, eat more fruits, abstain from smoking and alcohol, and avoid running and strenuous exercise.
6. The road from Lhasa to Namtso requires crossing a mountain pass at an altitude of 5190m, which is often covered with snow. Namtso's weather is unpredictable, with sudden downpours or hailstorms, and extremely low temperatures at night, so it is advisable to prepare a thick down jacket.
7. In winter, the Nagenla Pass is often covered with ice and snow. Therefore, for safety, it is recommended to call the local tourism bureau before traveling to Namtso to confirm whether the road is passable.
