Borobudur Temple Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
9th Century Architectural Marvel
My visit to Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Indonesia was eye opening. Located about 1 hours drive to Yogyakarta, it was akin to stepping into a world of ancient wonders. If you have been there, you would agree that this massive temple, built over 1,000 years ago, is truly a breathtaking architectural marvel. And beyond just being a pretty sight, the rich cultural heritage and history makes this a must see for anyone visiting the Yogyakarta region.
Currently (as of March 2024), we can now have full access to the temple structure but there is a daily limit of 1,200 visitors. I highly recommend getting the Temple Guided Tour ticket from Trip.com, as opposed to the Borobudur Temple Tickets, as having a guide that explains a brief history of the temple, the carvings on the wall, the religious context etc makes a world of difference. Having made you way there, wouldn’t you want to also go up the temple structure (up the the 9th level)? Also, you get a free pair of sandals when you join the full tour!

I want to travel to Hong Kong to experience its vibrant city life, delicious cuisine, and breathtaking skyline. From bustling markets to the multitude of shopping malls, Hong Kong offers a perfect blend of culture, history, and modernity that I can't wait to explore.
Borobudur Temple, Yogyakarta
Located on the island of Java, the magnificent Borobudur temple is the world's largest Buddhist monument with 504 Buddha stupas, an ancient site widely considered to be one of the world's seven wonders.
Borobudur is a Unesco World Heritage site!
Heaven on Earth indeed, one feels blessed and relieves all the tension when you are up there, the feeling of Nirvana.
Catch buddha at sunrise, nature, hidden ones
Should you chance upon the opportuntity to be one of the 1200 allowed to enter the top of this temple, you should really visit.
There is nature views to enjoy right at the top and also the chance to see hidden buddha under the stupa. No wonder it is a popular attraction.

Captivated by the Ancient Architecture
Borobudur is the largest Buddhist temple in the world, located on the island of Central Java. This temple was built in the ninth century AD. At that time, Indonesia was still a Buddhist kingdom (Syailendra dynasty).
The temple was built to serve as a place of worship for Buddhists. Seen from above, Borobudur looks like a large Mandala, representing the human journey from reincarnation (samsara) to nirvana (nirvana).
The Borobudur Temple has 9 floors (6 square terraces and 3 circular terraces). This terraced world is divided into three levels: Kamadhatu (the lowest is the world of desire), Rupadhatu (the middle is the real world) and Arupadhatu (the circular platform is the world of spirit).
The platform of Borobudur Temple is higher and smaller. There are also four staircases in four sections (east, south, west, north). Borobudur consists of 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. There is a main pagoda in the highest upper part, surrounded by 72 pagodas

Punthuk Setumbu Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Dawn's Embrace @ Punthuk Setumbu
Watching the sunrise at Punthuk Setumbu near Yogyakarta was an awesome adventure! We woke up super early, starting our journey from Yogyakarta City at 3:45 am. It took us about 15 minutes to climb up the hill.
When we reached the top, we waited for about 30 mins before the sky started to turn pink and orange. The the sun peeked over the horizon at 5:45 am. It was so beautiful! We could see the whole area around us lighting up with the morning sun. Even though we were tired from waking up early, seeing the sunrise made it all worth it. It was like watching a magical painting come to life right before our eyes!

Amanjiwo Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Moments at Amanjiwo Resort, Yogyakarta
Amanjiwo Borobudur, This resort is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and its location very close to Borobudur Temple.
Even though you have never stayed there, this resort in Magelang, Central Java has a good name among travelers. Not only because of its luxury, Amanjiwo Borobudur offers a different stay experience and can only be found at this resort. Amanjiwo Borobudur is located in Majaksingi Village, or about 3.5 kilometers from Borobudur Temple. The distance is about 40 kilometers to the northwest from the center of Yogyakarta and can be reached by an hour's drive.
From Yogyakarta, take the north on Jalan Magelang-Yogyakarta. Arriving at Muntilan, turn left onto Jalan Moh. Yusuf, then follow the directions to Borobudur Temple. A view that will welcome you when you arrive at Amanjiwo. Amanjiwo's architect, Ed Tuttle, deliberately included elements that resemble Borobudur Temple, which makes this resort truly different from other resorts in the world.
The structure of the building is dominated by light colors of natural limestone with warm wood details and black stone like a temple.
The rooms at this resort are divided into two storied rows that form a semi-circle and face the distant Borobudur Temple. While waiting for the check-in process, you will be welcome to enjoy a welcome drink before being escorted to your room.
In the rooms themselves, there are bathtubs, bathrobes, toiletries, and a Bose audio system for your convenience during your stay there. In addition to swimming pool facilities in each room, Amanjiwo has a main swimming pool which is quite large at the bottom of the resort.
If you don't want to swim, you can relax on a lounger while enjoying the view.
Amanjiwo has also provided 2 hats and a bag that you can use to bring some things to the pool. When the weather is good, you can even see Mount Merbabu from a distance.
Amanjiwo Borobudur also provides a gym and yoga classes for guests.

Borobudur and her guardians Amanjiwo
The two main destinations in Yogyakarta are Borobudur, one of the four great wonders of the ancient East, and her guardian, Amanjiwo. Borobudur is unparalleled, a hilltop Buddhist temple that was buried under volcanic ash for hundreds of years and has been well preserved since it was unearthed. Although it is a Buddhist holy site, it does not prevent people of different religions from around the world from coming to worship.
Amanjiwo, the guardian of Borobudur, is built in a village not far from Borobudur. The hotel has a unique style that complements Borobudur. This stay fulfilled a long-held expectation. Whether it's the lobby, the villa we stayed in, or the pool, each is commendable, and the hotel's service and experience are also very satisfying.
The hotel's Borobudur lecture is not to be missed, which can help you better understand this Buddhist holy site. The hotel's Borobudur tour is also just right, enhancing the overall experience. In addition, we also participated in a food making activity. The hotel's girls were very enthusiastic and helped us make a local meal.
Because it was our anniversary, we booked the hotel's special dinner. In addition to the satisfactory arrangement and food, the local performance throughout the dinner was also impressive. The love story in the performance echoed our celebration and made us very happy!!!
A hotel where many celebrities and politicians have checked in, Aman in Indonesia, is definitely the first choice for honeymoon trips abroad
Amanjiwo in Yogyakarta, Indonesia is referred to by many as 'one of the most perfect Amans', located just a stone's throw away from Borobudur, one of the four ancient wonders of the East. Amanjiwo stands majestically in the mountains, quietly gazing at the volcano and the ancient Borobudur in the mist.
Design
The designer mimics the structure of the pagoda and the technique of stacking huge stones to create a magnificent palace as if in the middle of the water. The lush palm trees and green rice fields complement each other, and every scene is stunning.
Rooms
There are 35 independent suites, arranged in a circular pattern around the temple-like main building, each with a different view, starting from 243 square meters. On the terrazzo platform in the center of the room is a luxurious four-poster bed, from which you can gaze at the rice fields, terraces, and Borobudur, sacred and comfortable.
Dining
The restaurant is surrounded by volcanoes and rice fields, with unlimited scenery. It features a variety of Javanese, Indonesian dishes and Western food. Most of the ingredients come from the hotel's own organic garden and nearby farms. During dinner, there is also a traditional Indonesian band, offering wonderful song and dance performances.
Spa
The spa center is based on the medical and beauty traditions passed down from generation to generation in Java, cleverly integrating Aman's natural skincare series with local ingredients with healing effects, offering a series of spa care projects for health and wellness.
Activities
At dawn, enter Borobudur, which is not yet open to tourists, and greet the sacred sunrise on the pagoda; climb Mount Merapi and enjoy the magnificent scenery; visit Buddhist temples and learn more about the religious and cultural aspects of Java; stroll through the countryside and participate in festival celebrations.
Hotel and World Heritage Site Achievements: Amanjiwo & Borobudur
I can't explain clearly why I chose to go to Java Island in Indonesia, whether it was for the top hotel Amanjiwo or Borobudur. Perhaps they are interdependent, as no one who goes to Amanjiwo would miss a visit to Borobudur!
amanjiwo: This secluded paradise built by Ed Tuttle on the island of Java is completely based on the architectural imagery and concepts of Borobudur. Whether it is the building plan with outer squares and inner circles, gradually descending layers, or the square and diamond-shaped limestone brick walls interwoven like weaving, or the bell-shaped roofs constructed with stupa shapes as the reference object... After combining with Amanresorts' openness and generosity in scale and proportion, it creates an extremely grand and solemn atmosphere that is breathtaking.
🌟Highlight features:
On a sunny day, looking far from the central axis of the hotel lobby, you can see the statues of the Borobudur Temple in the distance, all aligned on one axis. This is the most profound intention of the hotel design.
The hotel offers a famous private guide service to Borobudur, taking guests to admire the sunrise at Borobudur every morning in the hotel's private car. However, please note:
📝Attention tips:
In the past few years, there was an exclusive early access service for Amanjiwo guests to enter the scenic area, which has now been suspended. Even if you stay at the hotel, you cannot go to the scenic area during off-hours, so those who pay to participate in this activity must pay attention to this adjustment. However, because the hotel still provides funding support for the protection of Borobudur every year, and because the hotel's private guide service still enjoys certain privileges.
🚉Transportation guide:
The hotel provides airport shuttle service for Yogyakarta Airport, which takes about 2-3 hours one way.
🛏Room facilities:
Not all rooms are useful, only from the third level room and above have a swimming pool. The room grades are roughly: garden view, Borobudur view, garden view with pool, Borobudur view with pool, and various suites. Because the local weather is hot all year round, it is recommended to choose a room with a pool to enjoy a private swimming pool.
🍽️Food and beverage recommendations:
Hotel restaurant's breakfast is à la carte buffet style, with freshly squeezed juices, various Western breakfast options, and abundant Indonesian breakfast options, especially local delicacies like Indonesian fried rice, which are extremely delicious!
Borobudur: Located in Indonesia in Southeast Asia, Borobudur was built around 750-850 AD by the rulers of the Shailendra dynasty who ruled Java at that time. The name "Borobudur" likely comes from the Sanskrit "Vihara Buddha Ur," meaning "Buddhist temple on the hilltop." Borobudur was built around the 9th century and was buried underground due to a volcanic eruption in 1006 AD. It was rediscovered by the British in 1812 and was able to see the light of day again. Along with China's Great Wall, India's Taj Mahal, and Cambodia's Angkor Wat, it is known as one of the four ancient wonders of the East. As Indonesia's most famous world cultural heritage site, it is worth a special trip!
Kedung Pedut Waterfall Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
KEDUNG PEDUT WATERFALL : KULON PROGO
The name of Kedung Pedut Waterfall may still sound foreign, or it may not. If I remember correctly, this area was once the location of a television show titled traveling at a private station. Its beauty is indeed able to beat several famous waterfalls in Yogyakarta. The Kedung Pedut waterfall area is located in a hilly area. So, not only this waterfall. However, there are still many waterfalls around that have not yet risen to the surface. In fact, their beauty is extraordinary you know. The uniqueness of this waterfall lies in the color of the water which has two colors, namely turquoise green and white. For those of you who have never been here at all, you may not believe the colors presented. However, the color of this waterfall is original without any editing effects at all. Pedut comes from two words, namely kedung which means puddle, and pedut which means deep. So, Kedung Pedut means a fairly deep puddle. Judging from the depth it is quite deep, about 2 to 3 meters. In once isn't it? Even artificial swimming pools rarely use this depth. Actually, there are two pools, one of which is near the main waterfall. However, it is recommended for native friends not to swim, just enjoy it, because the area is quite dangerous. In addition to these two pools, there are still several small pools that are presented here. These small pools form like a ladder. To enjoy it, you can see it from above the viewing post. Here, the beauty of the Kedung Pedut waterfall lies before your eyes. The blue color of the water is really dazzling.

Holiday

Kedung Pedut, Wisata Air Terjun 2 Warna

KEDUNG PEDUT WATERFALL, KULON PROGO
An interesting tourist spot in Kulon Progo is Kedung Pedut Waterfall. Located in Girimulyo, Kulon Progo, Jogja, this water attraction is perfect for those of you who feel tired from your daily routine. The sound of gurgling water plus the cool air typical of the mountains is guaranteed to make your mind refreshed. Here, you can be satisfied playing water until the afternoon without the need to spend a lot of money. What's interesting about this one tourist attraction is that there are two kinds of water colors: blue and white. This is because local residents are still very diligent in maintaining the beauty of their homeland. To go to the location of the waterfall (waterfall), you are required to walk the path for approximately 15 minutes. Although tired, all tiredness will pay off when the ears have heard the sound of gurgling water from a distance. Ready to vacation in Kulon Progo? #triplocal

The Chicken Church
Very cool and unique landmark in jogja. Chicken church recently became famous because it was one of the place where one famous Indonesian movie was shot. An unusual visit, on the top of a small hill , with Borobudur in it's sight, this church is actually a modern structure in concrete, made in 1988, and that offers prayers rooms to any religion. It's also a nice coffee shop, and a good place to relax. Be careful, it can be crowded,. It's 1 hour and half from Yogja, and if you go early enough there seems to be a nice sunset view point. It's overlooking Borobudur temple, and with a good zoom, you can have some amazing pictures! 🐔 ⛪️🌿🌟☀️ #solstice #urbanexplorer #ancientlandmark #uniquearchitecture #summervacation #hikingtrails #oldchurch #beautifulnature

Chicken Church Rhema Hill, Magelang
#wecreate
Chicken church Rhema Hill is a visually striking structure that resembles a chicken in design. It was built as a representation of the dove of peace by Daniel Alamsjah, a visionary man who claimed to receive a divine message to construct a prayer house in the shape of a bird. The church sits on a hilltop, providing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Visitors to the Chicken Church can explore the interior, which features various religious symbols and artwork. The church serves as a place of worship and meditation, attracting individuals seeking a spiritual experience or a moment of reflection. The peaceful and serene atmosphere contributes to the overall ambiance of the site.
