Old lady run family hotel. Second floor has a few rooms. The owner does not speak English and has to communicate in English. Basic but worth the money.

Best experience I could get from this place was the owner being a great cook and exceptional with her conversations and mannerisms in sending and welcoming her customers.
Location is wonderful too, as it is quiet yet not far from the main areas to eat and transit in Yamagata. Honestly 1 of a hidden gem.
Only drawback would probably be the hot tub as she is handling it on her own and if there are multiple people living there that night, it can get a little dirty, so I'll keep to using the showers would do.

I spent four great nights at Yamashiroya Ryokan when I was visiting for sight seeing and skiing. The owner was very nice and looked after me very well. She is a great cook as well and the breakfasts were excellent! I would definitely stay again if I was in the area.

Very close to Yamagata Station, very easy to find.
The proprietress is very friendly and the Japanese-style room is very clean and tidy.
For the Japanese breakfast set, you can choose to dine at 07:00 or 08:00.

The landlady is kind. Although we don't speak the same language, we can feel her warmth. The breakfast she made herself is delicious, with rich varieties and different every day. I hope to feel the warmth again next time.

The location is very good, just a 3-minute walk from the station, very close to the Zao Bus Station. The room is clean and tidy. Although the shared bathroom has hygiene issues, it is actually quite clean.
