If you want a real experience - do it! Even thought the accommodation are basic and you have guest as of lizards in the house it is beautiful. Staff is very friendly, food is good! If you get the chance try the different beers they offer in the bar - bring cash!

Pros: - the friendly staff - the guides/drivers and the game drives - the boat trip on the river Cons: - the ridiculous early start in Zanibar at silly o'clock - the rain - the food - the accommodation - the unusable pool - the "roads" - game drives too long - getting stuck in the 4x4 three times! - the insects in the room. One was the size of a rat and a cross between a flying cockroach and something out of a sci-fi movie

Organisation was great. Safaris were great fun and guides are knowledgeable. We saw lions elephants giraffes buffalo… the list goes on !! The huts are spacious and comfortable beds. Hot water in bathrooms. Food is good although choice is limited… but you are in the bush !!! Escorted by Messai after dark makes you feel very safe. It’s not 5* hotel but obviously that’s not possible in the bush & that’s not what you go for ! Really recommend

Let's start with the positive comments first: Safari: The actual Safari was spectacular. The National Park is very large and green so animals were hiding quite well but we saw giraffes, zebras, hyanes, one lion, hippos etc. Food: The food was excellent giving circumstances. It was very tasty but not much variety. Every lunch and dinner was basically chicken, rice, salad and watermelon, however it was well prepared Staff: the staff was very lovely and knowledgeable, especially our tour guide Juma. Also the staff in the restaurant was very friendly Let's get to the part that I did not enjoy: Lodge: It was not clear when I booked with Secret Escapes how remote and open you live. Animals and insects crawl from all corners into your bedroom and bathroom. We had bugs, millipeds, ants, termites etc. In our lodge. The roof and walls are open so every day we had a surprise in our room. Also the cleanliness was very bad. I had lots of human hair in the shower. I told the reception and they cleaned it at least but the whole bathroom was dirty anyway with all the smashed bugs for three days. Water: If you have enough water to shower, you are luckily. There is also only one temperature. You cannot change the water from hot to cold. AC: There is no AC, only a fan and it gets very hot Leaking roof: it rained heavily one night and our bed got wet because the roof is not leak proof Time Management: We had to leave the lodge by 6am to fly back to the partner hotel to sansibar where the rooms were not ready. On the It would have been better to stay at least until 9am in the lodge so when we arrive in sansibar, the hotel rooms are ready. When we arrived we also had to get up at 4am to start our safari journey from Sansibar. We started straight with the safari without going to the lodge. Our first picnic was at 1pm and we were very hungry by then not having eaten anything and travelled for so long. Another issue was the length of the safari. It was simply too long sitting 12 hours in the heat with only 2 breaks in between. It would have been enough to have a 8 hour safari.

First safari for us and first experience in this structure immersed in the national park. The "Bush safari" is interesting, the boat safari in the river is a little less interesting. We would have preferred to do one more day of Safari! But that will be for next time. Thanks to all the staff

A fantastic experience. We had 3 nights with 2 full day game drives. On the other day, we did a river trip amongst many hippos, a Bush walk with a Masai tribesmen identifying trees and fruits and so on, and a walk around a normal (not tourist)local village. The game drives were about 10 hours long, with stops for coffee and cake and lunch. The drivers were patient and friendly and knowlegable. It was just us in the jeep, although we may have been lucky. The food was delicious. Bearing in mind, 8 hours by road to the nearest city, there were 2 choices of meat, vegetables, salad, potatoes and something sweet to follow. Staff helpful and charming. Manager exceptionally professional and thorough. Expect to see a lot of animals, but not necessarily the Big 5 as they can hide easily in the rainy season. Bring US dollars as everything is quoted in USD.

This camp is such an amazing place and the staff is amazing. They are really friendly and are making the stay extraordinary pleasant. I have been here two times and I really loved it. It is in the bush so it is important to keep this in mind. So now and then there will be insects but the Masai is really great in giving you a safe feeling. I am really recommending this camp!

We stayed at the Africa Safari Selous from 19th until 21st of December. It was an amazing experience. On the first day we landed at the air***** close by the camp we had a full day of Jeep Safari with our guide Dennis. We got treated with various animals like impala's, giraffes, elephants, buffalo's and much more! Dennis was very knowledgeable and was very kind to answer all the questions we had! And he even took a detour when there was a chance to spot more animals. When the sun was setting we went back to the camp were the food was excellent! Don't expect a 5 star buffet with unlimited variation, its the jungle! The cabins where very sufficient and comfortable and the staff comes in to prepare the mosquito net and spray with anti mosquito spray. It was always very clean! But do expect some bugs on the walls and some gekko's hanging around. The gekko's are you friend since they eat the bugs. During our stay it was quite hot and there is no airco in the banda hut, but you do have a fan that does it job. Also when we were there the wifi was not available and the power dropped out sometimes, but again its the jungle. For us it where just very minor inconveniences. The second day we got treated with a boat trip and a walking safari where we could learn more about local culture and how the Masai people live with the nature and animals. In general the hotel staff and locals are always very friendly! I give the experience 5 starts(since there are no more to give) If you understand that you are in a jungle and that comes with some (very minor) limitations you will have an amazing time. Thanks for having us! Jan Medemblik (mtu mkubwa)
