Aquila Porto Rethymno

So, firstly, a little confusion. Arrived at the beach front entrance and said to the coach driver.."This isn't our hotel"..so did two other couples so it wasn't just us. Be aware that there isn't a sign for beach side. The hotel itself was in a great location. There are plenty of shops and places to eat and drink close by. We stayed in half board in a Mythica room with sea view. Room was spacious and well furnished, with complimentary wine, water and fruit in the room on arrival. The decor itself was a little tired in places but nothing to spoil the experience. All staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the hotel with a special mention for Dmitra and Stella in the restaurant. A wide choice of food at every meal and we thoroughly enjoyed. Only one complaint we had over dinner was that a litre of still water was 5 euro. The same bottle but in 1.5l was available at the supermarket opposite for less than a euro. Felt taken advantage of over this as, of course, the hotel doesn't allow guests to bring in their own drinks. Although we didn't order any alcohol, a number of guests did mention that cost of drinks were very expensive in the hotel. We did try the hotel coffee shop after dinner on the first evening as no coffee is served after dinner in the restaurant, and we're not impressed with the coffee or the price so went to the coffee shop next door after that. They serve beer, wine etc too at a very reasonable price. Overall though a great holiday, very relaxing and we would definitely return in the future.

All in all this is a excellent hotel to stay at if you are staying in Rethymno. Centrally located, walking distance to most of the sites and shopping areas, rooms to a good standard and cleaned every day. The one let down if you are not all inclusive is the price of drinks €5 euros for a 1L bottle of water while having food within in the hotel. We would have purchased much more drinks within the hotel if they were reasonably priced as the entertainment is very good at the hotel.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a group of 10 female friends from the UK, celebrating a special birthday. The hotel staff were all fantastic, and very accomodating for our large group. Nothing was too much trouble and manager Petros Androulidakis sorted out our request to swap to sea view room swiftly and efficiently. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean. The food was good and our all inclusive package with Tui included branded drinks and cocktails. I would highly recommend the Chocolate Martini! Overall we spent a thouroughly enjoyable week at this hotel and I would recommend it.

I have just returned from a 7 day trip with 9 other ladies at this fantastic hotel. The hotel is beautiful (don’t be fooled when you get dropped off at the front aspect!) The hotel staff are amazing, from the hotel manager to the maids, they just cannot do enough for you. Anything that goes wrong, they react and rectify it immediately. Nothing is too much trouble. The food in the buffet dining room and the A La Carte restaurant is delicious with lots of choices. Special thanks to the dining room manager who to sat us all together or close to each other. One of our party had a big birthday out there and the hotel staff were exceptional and helped make her day so special (the birthday cake was delicious!) Watch out Aquila Porto Rethymno as ‘The 10’ will be back!

Just returned from another amazing holiday at this great hotel. We have been before and it just gets better, the staff make you feel like you're coming home, from reception to the restaurant and from porters to chamber maids, everyone of them are so kind and thoughtful. The food was excellent as was the service both for meals and drinks and our bedroom was lovely although it could have done with a tall lamp in the corner when it gets dark. My husband and I decided that the shower was the best we'd ever used and the cleanliness was outstanding. The entertainment was also good and the management were always around to ensure that all was OK. Wanting to thank everyone however there are too many to thank individually. We look forward to returning soon.

Wonderful hotel, one of the best l have ever stayed in. All public rooms, restaurants, pool areas, everywhere so clean. Room was amazing with coffee and tea facilities. Beautiful decor throughout. Food was varied and fantastic. All the staff were so helpful with the exception of TUI rep. We were here for a week and have no complaints and would recommend to anyone. First class hotel. We arrived too late for evening meal at hotel so they gave us a voucher to use for a lunch on our last day instead. Nothing was too much trouble. Free use of gym, pool, sauna and steam room in spa although you had to book place. We cannot speak to highly of this hotel. Amazing!!!

We stayed here for one week at the beginning of May. We arrived late, and were very disappointed with the room as soon as we entered it. It was dated and run down, particularly the bathroom. We were in a standard room, and I don't normally mind basic, as long as it is clean, however, this was not clean. There was dried snot and toothpaste on the bathroom wall, and the silver toilet flush had finger prints on it, indicating that it had not been cleaned properly since the last occupants of the room. We arrived at 2am and were very tired, so waited until the morning to complain. There was a bag of crisps on the desk which, for a five star hotel, you would just assume was a gift and we ate them after a long journey. Do not do this. They charged us £4.50 at the end of the holiday, along with several other things that we had taken from the 'mini bar',which was a fridge with absolutely no indication that we would be charged. We drank the bottled water (which you could purchase in any of the many shops on the front for £1.20 for 6) and were charged £3.50 per bottle. Luckily we didn't take any of the wine that was on the table on our arrival. It's the first time I've encountered a 'mini bar' spread throughout the room. Also, any time we have arrived to a hotel late at night, we have been given some food. Nothing was provided. The bath and shower were appalling. I'm not particular about a shower, but this has to be mentioned, as it was just a dribble and the temperature would literally be very cold one minute then scorching the next. The bath itself was very hard to stand in. It was extremely narrow, and we found it very difficult to not slip. It definitely is not safe. When I brought this up with staff at the front desk, we were told by the manager that we could pay to change rooms. The front staff on general were not friendly. This is in contrast to the lovely restaurant workers, who are the nicest things about the hotel, and I definitely need to mention. I would not recommend this hotel. The location is great, but the room was dated, and in much need of a refurb. This is no where near what you would expect from a five star hotel.

Beautiful hotel but found the room we had was not 5 star. Superior bedroom that we had consisted of two single beds pushed together, bathroom’s grout in tiles badly needed updated and actual bathroom was very dated and needing an upgrade. Curtains were very stained or bleached( not sure what that problem was) On a positive note though, food was beautiful! Staff are so friendly! Nothing was too much bother for staff. Hotel is perfectly situated near to the old Venetian harbour and old town.
